from nick.com: Slime was originally made with green gelatin and cream of wheat, and/or oatmeal. Shampoo was later added to help the slime wash out. By the late 90s most of the slime used was either applesauce colored green, or an undisclosed liquid that just resembled water colored green. Since it's green, Most of it looks real and disgusting adding to the effect of slime

My cousin got slimed at the nickelodeon hotel (Giant bucket of slime dumped on his head) and he said it felt like warm boogers.....
