Needless to say, today started off pretty weird. It's April 6, my birthday. Now, let me tell you something. I hate surprises. And I hate not knowing what's going on. So you can imagine why this was a bad day. First, I woke up to a huge home cooked breakfast from my mom. I appreciate it, of course, but we never eat breakfast as a family. Well, it's just me, my older sister, and my mom, but still. We're still a family, right? I never even knew my dad. He was one of those "hey-I-got-you-pregnant-now-you'll-never-see-me-again" types, as my mom put it. But I hate him. I never want to meet him, for what he did to us. Anyway, back to the story.

So after breakfast, my sister loaded me in the car.

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"Calm your pants." She teased. I rolled my eyes.


"Why are we at the mall?" I cried.

"You'll see." My mom sing-songed.


We stopped in one of the stores, FYE. You know, where they sell CDs, movies, stuff like that.

"Oh my gosh!" I ran to a cardboard cut out of Harry Styles. "It's Harry!" I screamed at a 70 year old grandma. Oops.

My sister, Cassie, looked at me strangely. Okay, I admit it. I have an obsession with Harry Styles. So what? Can't a 16 year old girl live her life without a questioning older sister? Gosh, apparently not.

"Thank you mom!" I hugged her.

"You're welcome Alex." She hugged back.

As we were about to walk out of the store, the last thing I remember is a man yelling, "Look out!" Then everything was dark.
