You Can Be My Queen
Chapter 31.
Jessica's POV.

We spent a lot of the day on the beach. Then, we went inside to have dinner. We had cheeseburgers and macaroni and cheese; Tommy's favorite. He sat between Justin and I. I swear, the kid looked up to both of us. He was always amazed to see what we had to offer.
"Can we have ice cream?" Tommy asked.
"Sure," I said, standing up to take their plates. "What kind? Aunt Caity has a lot of kinds."
"Do you have orange sherbet? I love that one!"
"Yep, I'll get you some." I said and smiled at the kid. I got a box of cones out.
"Sugar or regular?"
"Sugar!" Tommy called.
"Me too!" Justin yelled like a little kid. I looked at him and rolled my eyes in a playful way. I scooped the ice cream into the cones and brought them over. I got myself one too.
"After ice cream, can we play outside again?" Tommy's eyes were wide with excitement.
"Only until it gets dark, okay?"
"Yeah. Only until it gets dark." Tommy repeated. We finished our ice cream, and went outside, as planned.
We ran around outside when Tommy stopped.
"Can we play a game?" He asked.
"What game?" Justin asked.
"Okay, so you guys can pick your roles. I'm the president. You guys are royalty. It's a huge game! We pretend that we are really important people and we're cool."
"What do you want us to be?" I asked him.
"I don't know! You pick!" He waved us off like annoying flies.
"What should we be, Justin?"
"I want to be King." Justin said and smiled.
"Then, I get to be the princess, right?" Justin smiled at me and shook his head before kissing me. Tommy made an "icky" face just watching us. We didn't care, of course. When did we ever? I realized something. It doesn't matter who the audience is. If you love them, you're willing to do anything for them. And in this case, the audience was a 6 year old. Justin pulled away and looked me in the eyes. It was only us in the world. Everything else was blacked out and it was just us. I felt as if we could rule the world and no one would stop us. He opened his mouth to speak.
"You can be my queen."
