I jumped. My pocket was vibrating. I looked at the cellphone screen.
"One New Text Message"
It read
Hey honey. Where are you?
It was from my mom.
I replied: sitting outside doing homework
Minutes passed when I received an answer
Okay. Sorry to disturb you.
I didn't reply.
I tried to get back to my work, but after that text, my concentration was broken. Then thoughts rushed through my brain. Thoughts like "Does Danny do drugs? He's always out and he dresses in all black..."
Thoughts like "Are we going to be homeless?" "Are my friends going to be okay?"
Thoughts like"What's happening to my life?"
