The Truth Behind a Smile #24
All i
could feel was pain in my cheek. I slowly opened my eyes and i
found myself in the bathroom with the door closed.
I groaned. Why had my dad reacted so horribly to the fact
that i loved Matt? I mean, I've had many other boyfriends (they
were all pathetic, needy, losers) and when i find one i truly
care about? He freaks out dramatically. I sat up. I gently
touched my cheek. I hoped it wasn't swollen but when i
checked in the mirror, my hopes were obviously not granted.
I had a humongous black and purple lump on my cheek. My dad
definitely hit me hard enough. Sadly for him, though, it didn't
knock any sense into me. I went to the door and tried opening it.
Locked, the door was locked. I slammed my fists against it
as hard as i could while I ignored the hot, burning
sensation in my cheek.
"Macy, would you be so kind as to stop? I have a huge
headache." Yeah, well i have a huge cheekache, I
thought. Mine hurts worse i bet. Then i remember my dad had been
drunk. I was correct, I knew he would break his
"sober streak" eventually.
"Dad, please let me out. I have
homework!"
"Have you learned your lesson yet? You do
not and will not love Matt Wiersma. He and his mom are
goodie-goodies. They don't an ounce about other people, only
themselves. Got it?"
"Yes," I squeaked. I only lied so i could get out
of the dump I call a bathroom. I heard a click and the
door was open.
"Stay in your room. I don't wanna see your face
again."
"What about school tomorrow?"
"I'll be sleeping."
"Your job?"
"I SAID GO TO YOUR ROOM, GIRL! NOW DO WHAT I SAY OR YOU'LL
REGRET IT!" Where was my dad? The one who cared
overprotectively about me? I want him back. Not this drunken
rotten guy who yells at me a volume higher than last time. I
sprinted up to my room, my cheek throbbing. I needed some
ice. I decided to chance it but i made sure to wait half an hour.
I opened my door without a squeak and crept down the stairs. I
heard the TV blaring. That was a good sign. I saw the icebox a
coupe yards away from me. I slowly opened the freezer and grabbed
a bag of ice. Don't ask me why there was a random bag of ice in
the freezer when we barely had anything else. That's when i heard
the stomping behind me.
"Macy? I thought i told you to stay in your room. I made
that perfectly clear didn't I?" I turned around and
instantly doubled over in pain. A kick to the stomach.
"If that doesn't teach you, I dont know what
will." I smelled the heavy stench of alcohol on my dad as i
passed him, bent over. I could feel a pattern coming
on.
