The
Truth Behind a Smile #13
"Macy?" I had finally stopped crying
and was silent. I didnt want to face Matt.
"I'm sorry. For whatever I did."
"It's not you. It's just, my dad has been, um, really harsh
lately."
"Do you still wanna go to the movie? We can skip
dinner."
"No that's fine. We can do both. I'd rather forget this ever
happened." Matt started the car again and 5 minutes later we
arrived at the shopping plaza. I hopped out and joined Matt.
"Table for two," Matt said to the waitress.
"Right this way." We followed her and she sat us down
and we ordered our drinks.
"So Macy, what's your favorite color?" I laughed.
"Light blue."
"Wow, same here! And what's your favorite sport?"
"I dont have one. I've never played sports before."
"You still must have a favorite sport. Otherwise, you're
very unAmerican."
"I'm unAmerican? You're the one obssessed with
football!"
"Well football is a classic sport that all of Florida
loves!"
"I think soccer is the bigger sport here in
Florida."
"Wrong. But what's your favorite movie?"
"What's with all the questions? Am i like under
trial?"
"No, I just wanna get to know you more." Finally, our
drinks and food arrived. I started eating, thankful for the
distraction from questions. After awhile, we both finished eating
and Matt payed the bill.
"Ready to go see a movie?"
"As long as it doesnt involve 20 questions." Matt
smiled. We started walking toward the movie theater.
"So what movie do you wanna see?"
"I dont care. Whatever you want. Just as long as it isnt any
R rated movie. I cant handle those."
"Fine I'll surprise you." I shrugged but deep down i
was worried. He got us two tickets to a movie i had clue the
title of.

It had been an incredibly unforgettable night. Matt had just
driven me home. It was 11:00 and the house was silent except for
my dad's deep breathing on the couch. I snuck up to my
room and changed. Whatever movie Matt had taken me to (he
still wouldnt tell me the name) had been amazing. He had even
hugged me good-bye. Which might sound incredibly stupid since
most guys would kiss a girl after their "date" but we
were only friends. And i was happy about that. Tonight had been
definitely more than amazing. Even though i had started out by
crying, that was all forgotten. And Matt, to my surprise, didnt
even ask what had happened. To that, i was even more thankful. I
smiled and as i drifted off to
sleep.
