Cupid's Chokehold
Chapter Three
The audience cheered as I went up on stage to accept the award.
“God,” I chuckled, taking it in my hands. “Well first of all I was not expecting this so if I say something stupid I’m not prepared. Um, I’d like to thank my music teacher from back in middle school for introducing me to all different types of music and I want to thank Mariah Hart for putting up with me every day and helping me get where I am today. I also want to give a little shout out to all the fans out there who voted for me and support me. Without you I’d still be doing covers on YouTube, so thank you all so much!”
The audience clapped again as I went back down to my seat next to Louis and Mariah.
“Congrats love,” Louis said and I smiled.
“Thanks,” I said.
The rest of the awards went by rather quickly and then Mariah and I headed back to the limo.
“It was really nice meeting you two,” Harry said.
“It was great to meet you too,” Mariah said.
Liam then looked at his phone and smiled.
“Niall just texted me,” he said. “He says congrats on winning Best Summer Single and he hopes to get to meet you another time.”
I smiled. “Tell him I said hi and I hope to meet him too,” I said and Liam texted just that.
Mariah and I then went back to the hotel and just hung around for a bit. I decided to go on Twitter to follow a good bunch of fans, but ended up just reading tweets and re-tweeting things. Then, I came upon a rather interesting tweet that brought back a lot of memories.
“Hey Mar,” I chuckled. “Remember MattyB?”
“Oh my God yes!” she said. “You used to do covers with him a lot why?”
“He tweeted me,” I said. “He said: @StevieJ congrats on the award! I hope we get to do another cover one day and here’s a little congrats vid I made u!”
“Click the link,” Mariah said and I did what she told me.
There, the little ten year old boy popped up on the screen. I used to loads of covers with him until I got signed. Him and I are such good friends and he’s like a little brother to me, and the rest of his siblings are the same way.
“Hey guys it’s MattyB here,” he said, “and I just watched the Summertime awards and saw that Stevie Jacobs won the award Best Summer Single for her song And the Beat Goes. I used to do loads of covers with her, and she’s like a sister to me and all of my brothers and my sister, Sarah Grace. So, I just wanted to make this video, as a congratulations to her, and I hope her and I get to do another cover sometime, like the old days. So, Stevie, congrats on the award and I hope you and I get to do another cover soon. Thanks for watching, guys, peace!”
I smiled at the memories that were flooding back until Mariah spoke up.
“You know,” she said, “if you want to get some of those memories back, you have next week off before you have to start touring again. You can always fly out and do another cover with him. I’d be great publicity for the both of you.”
“I don’t want to do it for publicity, though, I want to do it because I want to do it,” I said.
I went back on Twitter and decided to tweet him.
@MattyB I’m free all next week and @MartheMouse just told me I’d b able to fly out and do a cover! What do u think?

“So did you get those plane tickets?” I asked Mariah and she nodded.
“Yeah,” she said. “And we’re going to meet up with Mars and Matt in two days.
Now, I know what some of you are thinking. Oh my god, MattyB? Why the heck does she want to do a cover with him? She’s winning awards and she’s famous and she’s flying to go make a cover with him? See, what you don’t understand is how close I am with his family, same with Mariah. I’m seriously inspired by this kid and he’s like my little brother. I’ve got loads of great memories with his family, considering I didn’t get along well with mine... My parents, anyway.
