The Exchange
Prologue
Melanie's POV
The hall were filled as I tried to make my way to the final list of select students who would fly across the ocean, and stay with an american family for two months.
This was a huge opportunity for any student, and whoever is chosen doesn't even have to pay for anything. Its basically a scholarship. Only the smartest, and most dedicated get the chance.
I get over the bullentin board, and it's impossible to get over to see the list. students are crowded around it like pirahanas I check my watch. 2:29.
One more minute, and the dismiss bell rings. Then everyone will most likely scatter like rats caught in light.
The bell rings, only half of the students disappeared. I sigh, so much for that idea.
I walk towards the crowd pushing my way threw, ignoring all complaints. Finally, I make it to the list. Ten names in bold print sit before me on that list.
First, Eric St. Peters.
Second, Gilly Tibbs.
Third, Ashton Duch. Wait, Ashton, my bestfriend? He's got to be going completely mad.
Fourth, Brit Lowe
Fifth, Melanie Kingsley. As I read my name, I scream, and rush out of the crowd.
I cannot believe it. Out of the entire junior class, I'm one of the ten leaving to America?
I quickly take out my cell phone, and call Mum.
When she answers, i nearly scream in her ear.
"What is it, Mel?" she says, alarmed.
"You'll never believe this, Mum!" I say, excitely.
"I'll never believe what?" she asks.
"I was choosen to go America!"
My mum screams on the other end.
"My word, Melanie!" she says. "This is a wonderful opportuntity!"
"I know, mum. I know." I say as my phone beeps, indicating I have another call.
"Mum, can we talk when I get home? I have another call." I ask.
"Of course." she says as she hangs up.
"Hello?" i say into my phone.
"Mel? Where are you?" Ashton asked.
"Dear god, ASHTON." I yell.
"What?" he asked.
"Aren't you excited?"
"Excited for what?" he says, confused.
"YOU DON"T KNOW?" I shouted into the phone.
"Know what?" he asks, eagerly.
"You got selected to go to America, and so did I!" I say.
"WHAT?" he shouts.
WHATCHU THINK?
Let me know.
Please.
I'll die.
No, I'm lying.
