Ch. 31
We got to the hospital and they rushed Brandan into the ER. They took me in too but my head wasn't as bad as Brandan's stomach. They asked if i wanted a hospital gown but i refused i hated those things, they were annoying and my butt hung out of them. They checked my head cleaned me up and told me i needed to get a cat scan and they had to take an x-ray of my neck to see if anything was wrong with it. I didn't really care and it flew by and all i could think about was Brandan. They confirmed i had a grade two concussion and nothing was wrong with my neck i just had to stay awake for a little while. That wouldn't be hard for all that was going on in my head right now. I impatiently waited for someone to tell me what happened to Brandan but no one was saying anything. A nurse would occasionally come by and ask how i was doing and i would just nod and she would walk away. They were keeping me over night to observe my head to see if anything bad was going to happen. They said they tried contacting my mother but they had no answer and i could have cared less, she was probably passed out on the couch or at a bar doing something stupid. Finally a doctor started walking over. " Hello, so you were one of the two people at the shooting scene right. " I answered in lightning time " Yes. " " Okay well your friend went into surgery and they fixed him up and he's fine he's in the recovery room right now. " It was like a weight had just been lifted off my shoulders and my face lit up into a smile. " But do you know his parents or anything like that? " I shook my head, bad idea because i got kind of dizzy. " Alright, but you can come into the recovery room if you want to see him when he wakes up. " The doctor said and i hopped right off the bed and followed him. It felt like we were walking in slow motion and he finally pointed me into a door. I saw Brandan lying there with tubes hooked into his arms and bandages wrapped around his stomach, he looked so helpless. There was a love seat and i took it and dragged it next to Brandans bed and turned the tv on and watched mtv. Finally i heard Brandan move around a little and my head shot over to look at him. His eyes fluttered open and looked around he looked so confused. Then he looked at me and smiled. My eyes were all watery again. He tried to sit up, " No no no! You can't do that! You just had surgery. Am i supposed to like call a nurse in here or something?" I was nervous he would hurt himself even more. " No not yet when i need more pain medicine you call her in. Are you okay? " He said looking at my head that i totally forgot i had a bandage on. " Yah fine, what about you? Why did you do that! You should have just let him take me, you'd be okay right now." I said feeling guilty about the whole situation. His smile flattened into a tight line. " You thought i was going to let him take you so he could do things to you. You think i was going to let him hurt you? I would have rather died. " He said. " Uh , um well , you . Um. " I was stuttering because i knew he was serious i didn't know what to say I was going to try to get some words out when a nurse walked in i sighed, relieved. " So Brandan how are you feeling? " She asked him in a bubbley tone. " Fine. " He said and looked over at me again. " You aren't in any pain? " " No i feel fine. " He said still looking at me. " Well okay the next time you'll be getting medicine will be in about an hour and a half and we're going to be keeping you here for a while until your stomach is all healed up so you don't rupture or tear anything when you go home, okay? " She said and smiled. He just nodded. " How about you miss, are you feeling okay? " Truth is i was really dizzy and i had a pounding headache. " Um well i have a really bad headache... " I said quietly. " Okay i'll be back with something for that. " She said and rushed out of the room. " The last thing i remember was looking at you on the ground and i was happy because you were safe, i knew the cops were going to get him and you'd be okay. You got a concussion though?" He asked thankfully changing the mood. " Yah my head hurts pretty bad. " I said and rubbed it and then of course my stomach growled. " Like the first time i met you, running away from a hosptial and needing food. " We both smiled.
