After the rest of my day was over, I walked to my car in the parking lot.
I shuffled around in my Marc Jacobs backpack for my Gucci keyring.
"Hey! Hali, right?" Connor said, catching up to me.
I turned around and smiled flirtily.
I know I shouldn't be because of Nate and because I said Dylan was cute, but oh well.
I unlocked my car but didn't get in yet.
"Yeah, you're Connor, right?" I was clearly playing dumb.
"Good memory," he smiled and flashed his gorgeous teeth.
"So, what did you need?" I asked getting impatient.
"Oh! Right. Tonight we're all going out for pizza around 6, and then there's a movie playing at 7 right next to the restaurant. You in?"
    "Sure!"
"Here, take my number, and I'll get yours. That way you can text me your address and I'll pick you up?"
    "Okay, who's all going?"
"Everyone from lunch and Jake's girlfriend, Maxx."
"Okay! Can't wait!" He hugged me goodbye and I got in the car to go home.
I texted my dad and got permission to go out tonight even though it's Thursday.
I took a shower and blowdried my hair.
Tonight I was going to use all of the social tips from home and bring them here.
Since there's really no soccer, I have to do something.
And all of them seem nice anyways, maybe it'll be a fun year.

    One Of The Guys
    Chapter 20.
“Liam, this is Nate, my friend. Nate, this is Liam, my 8-year-old cousin; he's also my number one favorite person in this whole wide world."
"Hey, there," he said shaking Liam's hand.
"Hi, do you like my cousin or something?"
    Oh boy, here we go.
"Very, very much," he whispered just loud enough for me and him to hear.
I felt myself blush so I looked over to the little kids on the swings at the park.
"Hali, can we get frozen yogurt, please?" Liam's big brown eyes stared up at me, waiting for my answer.
"Of course, sweetie. Do you wanna go on the swings first, though?"
"Here, I'll go grab some frozen yogurt, and you two go to the swings, I'll meet you back here in a few, okay?"
"Sure, thanks, Nate," I said smiling.
"Higher!" Liam's voice shouted as I pushed him on the swing.
Once he got high enough, he swung himself.
A red bouncy ball landed just in front of his swing, so I went to pick it up.
I stood up and felt his sneaker come into contact with my face.
I fell backwards onto the wood chips.
I felt a strong grip on my body as my eyes fluttered open.
I saw a gorgeous brunette kneeling over me with sparkling brown eyes.
    "Are you okay? Miss?"
    "Y-yeah, I'm fine."
He pulled me off of the ground and onto my feet.
"My name is Carter, and yourself?"
"Hali, not Hayley, Hali." We shook hands and had a moment of awkward silence.
Liam jumped off the swing when it slowed down and ran over to me.
"Woah, Hali! I'm so sorry! Are you okay?"
"Of course, honey!" I said, picking him up.
    He pecked my cheek.
"Liam, this is Carter. Carter, this is my cousin, Liam."
"Hey, who's this Hali?" Nate looked confused as he handed us the cups of yogurt.
"Carter, long story." I said as me and Liam giggled.
"Okay, well, do you wanna go play soccer at my house?"
"Sure! Liam, I think your mommy wants you home anyways, are you okay with that?"
    "Will I see you soon?"
    "Of course, buddy!"
"Deal," he said kissing my head.
"Carter, nice meeting you, I gotta go," I said.
He took my phone and put his number in it, causing Nate's face to turn bright red with... anger?
He winked as he walked back to who I hoped was his sister, he's really cute.
"Let's go... now." Nate said sternly.
We got in the car and dropped off Liam.
    "Hali, we need to talk..."

    One Of The Guys
    Chapter 22.
    http://www.polyvore.com/untitled/set?id=55310020
I sat at the table awkwardly as Jennifer and my father made kissy faces and noises at each other.
Every now and then I'd shoot a disgusted look at Nate.
I felt so uncomfortable that I just wanted to get up and leave.
"I'll have the chicken parm and a side ceaser salad, please," I said, handing the waiter the menu.
The rest of dinner flew by, and you would think by the end of the meal I would sort of like Jennifer.
Lol, nope, still hate the b*tch.
No one can ever replace my mom, especially since she's only a few years older than I am, ew.
When dinner was over, I drove Nate home in my car.
"I'm so sorry you had to come to dinner," I apologized when I stopped in his driveway.
"It's fine, don't worry about it. I'll see you tomorrow at soccer?"
"Of course, bye," I said, giving him an awkward side hug before he got out.
It wasn't dark out yet, it was only about 8, we had a really quick dinner.
I decided to drive to the cemetary, I really miss my mom.
I sat on the warm, freshly cut grass in front of her gravestone.
    "Hi mommy," I said quietly.
"It's me, Hali. I miss you... a lot. Did I tell you I made the boys soccer team at school? It's so fun, I'm making more friends with it. I really wish you were here to see me, though."
I felt a few cold tears run down my face and neck.
Before I knew it, I was hysterically crying in a ball on the grass.
I felt a pair of strong hands on my back which scared the crap out of me.
I jerked my head up to see a familiar face.
"Carter? What are you doing here?" I was so surprised.
"Visiting my grandmother, she died a few years ago."
"I'm so sorry," I said, wiping a few tears from my eyes.
"I take it your visiting your mom?"
As soon as he said that my face trembled and memories flashed back.
I was now uncontrollably crying and shaking into the chest of a guy who was practically a stranger.
He said nothing, but stared down at me with his shimmering brown eyes.
"A girl as beautiful as you never deserves to have one tear fall from her face."
"Well thanks, but I'm sure I look like a mess right now."
"Not even close," he said quietly.
My tears finally started to control themselves and I sat up straight.
"Were you close with your grandparents?" I asked.
"Very," he seemed to be looking at anything but me.
"Were you close with your mom?"
"You have no idea," I played with a piece of grass and studied it.
Suddenly he stood up and walked away, just like that.
This kid is such a mystery, I wanna know more.

“Carter!” I whisper shouted, careful not to bother the other people at the cemetery.
His head whisked around, his gelled hair not moving at all.
    “Yeah?”
“What are you doing tomorrow night?” I got a little closer than I wished but whatever.
    “Actually, I’m going home tomorrow.”
    “Home?” I’m confused.
“I live in Boston, but my grandmother loved it here so she wanted to be buried here. It’s her birthday, so I came to visit her grave. Plus my sister’s boyfriend is up here, so we made a family trip out of it.” He chuckled at the end.
“Oh, well that stinks. How old is your sister?”
    “25, I’m 17, though.”
    “Gotcha.”
“Well, I’ll see you around eventually.” He said.
“Here, take my number. If you’re ever in Florida again, we can hang out or something.” I said, as I put my number into his phone.
He smiled and we both walked away to our cars.
I drove home blasting the radio as usual and pulled into the driveway to see an unfamiliar car there.
I walked into the kitchen and opened up the fridge.
“Hal, Jennifer just came over to say goodbye before she leaves.”
“Oh, where are you going?” I asked, opening up a strawberry lemonade flavored Calypso.
“I’m going home to Boston. My family was only up here this week to visit my grandma’s grave since it’s her birthday. But don’t worry, I’ll be back!”
I choked on my drink when I realized that my dad’s new girlfriend is Carter’s older sister.
“Hal, you okay?” My dad asked, rubbing my back.
“Perfect,” I said weakly with a fake smile.
“Well I should get going, wouldn’t wanna keep my family up all night.”
Your brother’s already up, though, I thought to myself.

They had a make out session and that’s when I decided to call it a night.
I was all ready for bed when my dad came up to my room.
“Honey, I have some news for you, you may or may not take it very well, I’m not sure yet.”
    “What is it dad?”
“We’re moving to Boston once school starts up again.”
“Are you kidding?! Dad! I just made the boys soccer team! All my friends are here! The beach is here! Soccer’s here! Mom's here! I can’t just casually leave when school starts! That’s not fair!”
“Honey. I know this is hard for you, but I love Jennifer. We’re going to move there, buy a brand new house, and we’ll keep this house for vacationing so you can see your friends. You can even come here on the weekends if you like. You can go for a shopping spree with Jennifer if you want because I understand it’s cold there and you don’t own warm clothes. Please just do this one thing for me?”
When I saw the look in his eyes I couldn’t say no, I had to agree.
“Fine, but only because I love you and you’re my daddy,” I said giving him a hug.
“And I met Jennifer’s brother actually, he’s really nice.”
    “How?”
    “Long story.”
    “I have nothing but time.”
For the remainder of the night my father and I had a heart to heart in my room until I fell asleep.

    “Hali, we’re gonna miss you!”
My two best friends cried into my shoulder.
“Soccer won’t be the same with out you, Goodman,” the guys from the team said.
"You're really leaving, huh?" Nate said, shoving his hands into his pockets and avoiding eye contact.
    "Yeah..." I said slowly.
    "I'm really gonna miss you."
"I'll come down on the weekends, don't worry." I said reassuringly.
"Keep up with soccer, but promise you won't join the guys' team. I don't want you to replace your whole life." He smiled and so did I.
After a few more awkward seconds he grabbed my face in his hands and kissed me slowly.
I stood up straighter so he didn't have to bend down as much.
After I pulled away we had silent eye contact.
    "Bye, Nate."
A tear fell from his eye but he tried to hide it.
I got on my tippy toes to give everyone one last and wiped the salty tears from my eyes.
“Hali let’s go, we’re gonna miss our flight!” My dad yelled.
“I have to go guys, I love you all.”
We had one last group hug and then it was off to Boston.
The still sticky November air in Miami made me not want to go to the cold and disgusting city of Boston.
"Welcome to yo casaaaaa, sistaaaa!" My dad said trying to be "hip".
I surveyed the house, it's gorgeous and quite cozy.
I ran up to my room that was just as large as the master bedroom.
I threw my bags onto the hardwood floors of my bedroom.
Since it was two months into school, my dad and Jennifer got the house set up on the weekends while I stayed in Miami.
Maybe moving Boston could be good for me.
I even got a new tattoo for being such a good sport about the move.
I took a hot shower, with the toiletries from my boxes.
Other than that stuff my room was basically unpacked.
After that I got into bed, prepared to wake up bright and early for my first day at my new school.

I parked in the first empty spot I saw in front of the school and walked up the stairs.
Everyone here doesn’t really look friendly, either.
I followed the signs to the main office, and got my schedule.
149… Miss Wilson, English, and my strong subject.
I walked around until I found her room and put my books down.
Here it seems to be the same scheduling at home… so at least that’s good?
The bell rang and a pack of students came in.
“Class, we have a new student, her name is Hali Goodman.” Suddenly all eyes shifted over at me.
Some kids laughed, some looked happy, and some just straight up didn’t care that I was here.
The slowest hour and a half of my life finally finished and I walked out of the room.
“Hali, right? My name is Carly Harris.” Her bleach blonde hair was wavy like mine and stopped after her boobs.
“Nice to meet you,” I said awkwardly.
“What’s your next class?” She asked grabbing my schedule.
“Ahh, we’re together! You’re gonna love Mr. Mendelsohn for math, he’s great.” She grabbed my hand and pulled me to my next class.
We sat at a round table in the back.
A peppy girl with dark brown hair and fair skin bounced her way over to the table.
“My name is Lauren Hill, what’s yours?” Her voice was raspy, but not annoying.
    “Hali Goodman.”
“You’re pretty, I like you,” she smiled and got out a glitter pen and her notebook.
Lunchtime rolled around at about noon and they led me to their table.
“Okay, this is Jake, Dylan, Brody, and Connor. Guys, this is Hali Goodman, the new girl from Florida.”
I had intense eye contact with Dylan until I finally looked away. He’s cute, why not?
