    Chapter 16
    Avery's POV
    GRADUATION DAY
I still couldn't believe I was graduating today. I never have to come back to this place again.
I placed my hands in my lap and allowed myself to listen to the valedictorian speech.
"We're all like a family here, and I think we've realized that over the past year here. Cliques kind of just crashed together, whether it be the smart kid and the musical kid, the head cheerleader and the captain of the chess club, or the notorious rebel and star of the football team." she said, and I glanced at Troy, smiling.
Troy and I are still together. We've been 'official' since November 10th, so it's been over 5 months.
I looked around at everyone in the chairs surrounding me, and I suddenly realized I was going to miss everybody.
"There's been too many good times in this school and this grade, whether it be the amazing time we had at our senior prom, or the incredible pep rally we had freshmen year. Now this is the part of my speech where you parents and grandparents will probably get confused. You see, there's been a competition going on ever since the third grade, if I'm correct, between two students sitting right behind me. Troy Stevens and Avery Carter have taken this school by storm, pranking each other whenever they can, getting the other in trouble, or just having some plain old-fashioned fun. And even our principal got involved in this game. So whoever has the most points total over the years is the ultimate champion, so I would like to let all of you know who won. Congratulations Avery. You're the winner." the valedictorian read, and I threw my fist in the air like Judd Nelson did after he got the girl.
"To end my speech, I would just like to say as we go on, we remember, all the times we spent together. And as out lives change, we remember, we will still be, friends forever. Congratulations class of 2013, we did it!"
We all stood up and threw our caps after getting our diplomas.
"Avery, Troy, come over here for me!" Troy's mother said, and she snapped pictures of us.
I took a few pictures with Ethan and with Roxy, and then one with my mother and Jack.
I can't believe I'm finally out of high school.
This past year has been crazy. Troy and I had a lot of fun. We pranked each other even after we became a couple, and on April Fool's Day, we joined forces and pulled a hilarious prank on the principal, who found it to be pretty funny. As I stood there taking pictures, all my high school memories flashed through my mind.
Prom. Homecoming. Pranks. Friends. Everything, that would soon just be a memory.
"Av, I need to talk to you." Troy said, grabbing my arm and pulling me away from the other people.
"What's up?" I asked, curious as to what he had to tell me.
"I liked you in kindergarten. I liked you in first grade. I liked you in second grade. Freshmen year, I realized I was in love with you. And the only reason I continued to tease you and fight with you is because I thought it was the only way to get you to love me back. I know we're young, and I know this is going to sound completely crazy, but I just need to ask you something." he said, getting down on one knee. I gasped.
"Avery Carter, will you go see Aerosmith in concert with me?" he asked, opening a ring container that had two Aerosmith tickets. I started cracking up, before shaking my head yes.
"I actually thought you were going to propose!" I said, and he just laughed with me.
I love Troy. And I guess I always have. I just never let myself know that.
And now that I do, I couldn't be happier.
This was the last chapter! But I'm going to start a 1d fanfic, let me know if you're interested in reading it!(:

    Chapter 15
    Avery's POV
I've been avoiding Troy for a while now. I just don't know how to deal with my feelings for him.
Today he finally confronted me. During english class, since we had a sub, he talked to me.
"What's going on with you? We were hanging out and having fun, and now you're completely ignoring me."
"I've just been really busy with school and stuff." I lied, hoping he would but it.
"Save it. You and I both know you don't care about school. Tell me the truth." he demanded.
"You want the truth? Fine. I like you Troy. And I don't know what to do about it." I confessed.
"Well, I didn't expect that." he said, leaning back in his chair and sighing.
"You like me, I like you. Where does this leave us?" he asked, looking at me expectantly.
"I honestly don't know. I've never thought of you this way, but lately it's all I can think about." I said.
"Are you just playing me? Because that would be cruel." he responded.
"Well, it started off like that. But then I realized that I actually liked you. So no. Not anymore." I replied.
The bell rang then, and I was glad for an escape from that conversation. I knew it wasn't finished, but I didn't want to talk to Troy anymore today. My head was starting to hurt, and I couldn't deal with this anymore.
I called Ethan later that night, and he arrived at my house fifteen minutes after I called him with Chinese food.
"You stopped and got takeout on your way? That was really fast." I said, digging in.
"No, my parents left me in charge of dinner tonight, but I figured you could use some food." he said.
"So you really like Troy. This is kind of ironic." he said, finding it amusing.
"I don't know Eth. What am I supposed to do about it? We're not soul mates or anything." I told him.
"You give him a chance. You like him, he likes you. It would be pointless if you guys didn't date."
"Let's go." I said, standing up and putting on my converse.
"What? Where?" he asked, following my lead.
"Just grab your keys and drive me to Troy's." I said, feeling confident. Ethan did as I said, and shortly after, we were sitting in Troy's driveway. Suddenly I didn't feel confident anymore.
"What are you gonna do?" Ethan asked, his eyes on me.
"I'm gonna go ask Troy Stevens to be my boyfriend." I replied, trying to build up the courage.
Once I felt strong enough, I got out of the car and walked up the front steps. I rang the doorbell, and his mother answered the door. She looked suprised, then happy to see me.
"Hello Avery. Troy is upstairs in his bedroom. Could you let him know that I'm leaving?" she asked.
"Of course Mrs. Stevens. Have a good night." I said, running up the stairs to Troy's room.
I didn't even knock when I got to the end of the hall. I just walked in his room.
He must not have heard me, because he didn't say hi or anything. His back was turned towards me, and he was looking at a number on his phone. It was my number. His thumb hovered over the 'call' button, but he couldn't bring himself to press it. That was kind of cute, how shy he was.
"Hey." I said, obviously catching him off guard. He rolled right off his bead and bumped his head on the floor.
"Are you okay?" I asked, laughing a little as I went to help him up.
"What are you doing here?" he asked, rubbing the top of his head, and I just smiled at him.
"Troy, will you be my boyfriend?" I asked, suprised by how sure of myself I sounded.
"Took you long enough to ask." he said, walking over to my and placing his lips on mine.
That moment was perfect. It could never be tainted for me. I would always remember it, even if things with us fizzled out. That memory never would. Things happened so quickly, and I didn't even mind.
I didn't expect to date Troy Stevens, ever. Yet here I was, his ner girlfriend.
    And I loved it.
    So I know this story went kinda fast, but I'm going to start another one soon(: I'll post one more chapter, which will probably be graduation, and then the epilogue!! Then a new story, which WILL be a 1D fanfic(;

    Chapter 14
    Avery's POV
    TWO WEEKS LATER
"I know Derrick. You don't understand though. Whatever." I sighed, hanging up my phone.
I just told Derrick I couldn't hang out with him tonight because I was hanging out with Troy. Again.
That got him angry. I don't know why. I thought he and Troy were friends.
Maybe he's jealous because he knows Troy likes me.
I changed out of my school clothes and threw on a Bel Air sweater and some jeans.
I slipped my feet into my Uggs. I don't normally wear brand names, but I figured if I was going out I might as well try to look decent. I told Troy we should go to the movies tonight, and he was more than happy to agree.
We've been spending a lot of time together. He's been to my house a few times, even though my mom and Jack are not that fond of him. And I've been to his house as well, and his mother loves me.
She won't once I break his heart.
That's the thing that I've been having trouble with lately. I know it's part of the plan.
But I'm starting to think that it's a little cruel, even for me. So I talked to Roxy. She thought it was funny at first, until she reminded me that Troy had feelings. That's when I decided that I shouldn't hurt him.
So I'm just going to stop hanging out with him. Not right away, but kind of back off slowly.
"Hey, you look cute." Troy said, smiling at me as I walked into the theater. He handed me my ticket and we walked over to the concession stand to get some popcorn and candy.
"This movie better be good." I said, glancing at the ticket. He bought tickets to see Mama.
"A horror movie? This is looking like a cliche teenage date." I said, and he laughed.
I bet that was what he was going for. I rolled my eyes and walked to the back row of the theater.
The previews were pretty stupid. None of the upcoming films looked good.
Once the movie started, I got creeped out. It was actually pretty scary.
Troy yawned, and I burst out laughing when he put his arm around my shoulders.
"What?" he asked, not sure what I was laughing at.
"You did NOT just put your arm around me. You're so cheesy Stevens." I said, still shaking with laughter.
"Whatever." he mumbled, taking his arm off me. I could see him blushing.
Gosh, he was cute. But I could never let him know that.
"I didn't say I didn't like it." I whispered, shocked by what I just said.
Troy smirked, and moved his hand to my mid thigh, then winked at me. What was I doing?
Why was I still leading him on? I thought I decided I wasn't going to do that anymore.
As the movie went on, I came to a sudden realization.
I wasn't leading Troy on. I actually liked him. I actually had feelings for Troy.
I didn't want to, but I did. And there is no way I would ever admit it, not to anyone.
During a scary part of the movie, I dug my head into his shoulder.
"It's gone." he said, patting my arm. I looked up into his eyes. He tilted my chin upward with his thumb.
Seconds later, his lips were on mine. And I didn't do anything to stop it.
"Making out in the back of the movie theater? How much more cliche could it get?" he asked, chuckling.
I turned my attention back to the movie screen. I can't believe what just happened.
As much as I wanted it to happen again, I knew it couldn't. I can't be with Troy.
    I just can't.
All in favor or Travery as a couple, say I!

    Chapter 13
    Avery's POV
A few days later, I walked into english class prepared to take my test.
Actually, I wasn't prepared at all. I was prepared to get it over with. I hate tests.
"Okay class, eyes on your own paper." Ms. Litrell said as she handed out the packets.
I wrote my name and began circling answers that sounded right. Halfway through the test, Troy raised his hand.
"Yes Mr. Stevens?" she asked, eyebrows raised.
"Avery's been looking at my test." he said, smirking when he turned his head to look at me.
"I have not! I don't know a lot of the questions, but I'd rather try than look at your answers." I protested.
"That's enough. You know we don't tolerate cheating here. Both of you have detention."
Troy looked satisfied as he went to write more on his test. Great. This was all part of his plan.
I went back to choosing random answers and writing down things that I thought we learned.
When the bell rang, we stayed after and Ms. Litrell talked to us.
"I don't know what's going on between you two, but work it out in detention." she said, handing us our slipd that said detention was being held in room 104 today. We walked downstairs together and into the room.
"Dude, what are you doing here?" Troy asked the sub, walking over to give him a bro hug.
"Gotta make bank somehow." he replied, and talked to Troy for a while.
I don't even think he noticed me until Troy took a seat right next to me.
"Troy, is this your girl?" he asked, sounding like he approved.
"Nah, kinda the opposite." he replied, pulling out his notebook and textbook.
"Weird. Because there's about thirty seats in this classroom, and you decided to sit right next to her." the sub said. I vaguely remembered him from when I was a freshmen. He was on the football team.
"Whatever man." Troy said, turning his attention to his math homework.
I pulled out my iPod and started listening to some music, trying to pass time.
When Troy was done with his math, I decided to talk to him.
"Hey, Troy. If you wanted to hang out with me, you could've just asked." I said.
"You'd say no." he responded, glancing at the clock instead of me.
"You never asked. How would you know what I'd say?" I asked, and he looked comfused.
"Wanna hang out?" he asked, and I debated laughing in his face. But that wouldn't do any good.
"Yeah. Let's hang out tomorrow night. Your place?" I asked, and I could tell he was shocked.
"You guys are free to go." the sub said, and I got out of my seat.
"And no fake cops this time. See you then." I said coyly, walking out of the classroom.
You may be wondering why I'm willing to hang out with Troy outside of school.
Not because I want to. But because I seriously want to win this game.
So I'm gonna make him fall in love with me.
It'll be kind of like that line in a walk to remember me. I'll tell Troy I'll be friends with him on one condition. He has to promise not to fall in love with me. Then I'll toy with his heart, and lead him on.
And when he falls in love with me, I'll just tell him I told him not to. That way I don't seem like that much of a jerk. You can't get what you want without hurting a few people.
People in Hollyood don't really have friends. It's all a show.
Just like my new 'friendship' with Troy.
And let me tell you, this show could probably win an Academy Award.
so sorry for nut uploading for like a week! but I only have 2 midterms left, so I will be writing more often!

    Chapter 12
    Avery's POV
As my alarm clock sounded the next morning, I rolled out of bed and hit snooze.
I walked over to my closet and grabbed a MTV cutoff tank and a pair of black leggings. Once I was dressed, I slipped my feet into a pair of black combat boots. I threw my raybans over my eyes and walked out of my room.
"Have a good day at school sweetie!" my mom said, handing me my lunch. I grabbed it and my car keys and drove to school. I was still so confused. Is Troy messing with me, or does he actually like me?
There's one person who can help me figure this out. Ethan.
I saw him as I was walking into school. I called his name and he turned around and waved.
"Hey, what's up?" he asked as I reached where he was standing. He was alone, which was good.
"Troy told me he likes me. Is he messing with me, or does he actually like me?" I asked.
"I told you, he's falling for you." he told me, and I knew it was true. I just didn't want it to be.
"Great. Thanks. I'm going to 1st period." I said, dragging myself to class.
I spent most of the morning just spacing out and thinking about what Troy said. He can't like me.
Why would he? We're so different. I'm not beautiful, I'm not funny. I'm boring.
I really didn't want to think about it, but somehow I mind began thinking about Troy and how good looking he was.
I can't deny it. He wasn't bad to look at. But I would never admit that to him.
Why can't he just date Briana? They would be perfect for each other. Both popular, both into themselves.
Oh wait. Troy's into me now. How could I forget? Ugh.
In order to get myself in a better mood, I needed to do something to Troy. I wrote a letter that said "Meet me in the courtyard three minutes after the bell rings." I excused myself to use the bathroom, but I really went to slip the note into Troy's locker. When he read the note, he would be late to our next class.
After the bell rang, I walked to my next class. As I had expected, Troy didn't show up on time.
And this teacher was really strict, so Troy's tardiness wouldn't go unnoticed.
When Troy finally did walk in, he looked confused.
"Mr. Stevens. Nice of you to finally come to class. Detention after school today." the teacher said.
I snickered as he took his seat, and he rolled his eyes. He then looked over at me and knew I put the note in his locker. He just shook his head, but he had a small smile on his face. Great.
After class, Troy stopped me and asked to talk.
"Look, I talked to Derrick. I explained everything. I'm really sorry again." he said.
"Why did you do that?" I asked, hoping there wasn't some kind of catch to his good deed.
"Because I don't want you to hate me. It already kinda sucks that you don't like me back, I don't know what I would do if you actually hated my guts." he said, running his hand through his hair.
I bit my lip and looked at the ground. I just couldn't look into his eyes.
"Oh, and thanks for getting me detention." he said, walking away after.
At least he didn't make that conversation too sappy. That was really awkward.
I really kinda feel bad that he actually likes me, and I don't have the same feelings for me.
He seems to be changing, and I'm not sure if it's permanent, or just temporary.
    I don't really like him. Well, I don't think I do. I mean, he's hot, but that's it.
And I guess we kinda have fun together. Well, picking on each other.
But don't people say that you pick on people because you like them? I really hope that's not true.
Actually, I really don't know anymore.

    Chapter 11
    Troy's POV
Avery hasn't talked to me in a few days, not that I expected her to.
But I figured she would try and get back at me for messing with her. Guess not.
I kinda wish I just worked up the guts to tell her I liked her, instead of lie to her. But I didn't.
I walked into english on Wednesday afternoon and took me seat. A few minutes later, Avery walked in.
"Okay class, Troy and Avery will be giving their lesson now." Ms. Litrell said.
I had no idea how this all was gonna go down, because Avery was in charge of explaining how the events in ancient Rome relate to events that still happen in the world today. I have no say in what she does.
I explained the meaning of Julius Caesar to the class, and they seemed vored. Until Avery started talking.
"You see, Cassius was evil the entire time. He wanted to get rid of Caesar because he was selfish. This involved a lot of lying, and a huge betrayal from Brutus. But at least Brutus didn't lie to try and end Caesar's relationship with Calpurnia. That would have been shallow, even if he thought it was just a game." she said.
Ouch. I should have expected something like that from Avery. She seemed way too calm earlier.
"Well maybe if someone gave Brutus time to explain, this wouldn't have happened." I shot back.
"You don't understand what I'm saying Troy. Being emperor takes a lot of work. You can't just toy with that." she replied. Man, she was on a roll today. I wasn't prepared for what was about to happen.
"So could you please explain how the situation relates to society today?" Ms. Litrell asked.
"Well, some people think it's okay to lie and ruin lives. For instance, say someone was dating this guy, right? And another boy happened to be jealous. So he lied to the girl, just so he could have her for himself. That's selfish, and he obviously didn't think before he lied. Otherwise he would have known what would happen. The truth always comes out. So the girl found out he lied, just like it was found out that many people Caesar trusted were behind the whole conspiracy. You're better off telling the truth, and bracing yourself for what happens." Avery said.
"Very well done Avery and Troy. Thank you." the teacher said, clapping as the class joined in and clapped too.
Avery looked over at me and had a smirk on her face. So I guess she knows I lied about Derrick.
Maybe I should just tell her that I have feelings for her. But she wouldn't believe me.
She would probably think it was part of the game. Which was driving me crazy.
I just have to tell her something. Anything. Which is what I'm gonna do.
After the bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, I ran to catch up with Avery in the hallway.
"What do you want Troy? I have to get on the bus." she said, sighing.
"I'll bring you home. Just talk to me for a minute?" I asked, hoping she would agree.
I was kind of suprised when she nodded her head, and followed me to my locker. People gave us weird looks.
"Avery, I know you know that I lied. And I'm sorry, I honestly am." I began, taking a deep breath.
"Why? I just want to know why you did it." she said, not seeming mad or anything.
"Because, uh, I like you." I mumbled, not making eye contact with her.
She stayed silent, so I glanced up at her. She had a blank look on her face.
"Troy I don't feel the same way about you." she said, and I could hear in her voice that she felt bad.
"No, I understand. Why would you, right? Let's just forget I said anything." I suggested.
We walked out to my truck and I drove her home. The ride was pretty awkward, and filled with silence.
She pulled out a piece of cinnamon gum and started chewing it before I arrived at the address she gave me.
"Want a piece?" she asked, offering me the pack. I reached for the piece of gum, and my finger was hit with a weird force, something that make me scream. What on earth was that?!
"Oldest trick in the book. I think that's seven for Carter, and five for Stevens." she said, a smirk on her face as she turned to glance out the window. I couldn't help but smile to myself. I may not be into the game anymore, but I'm definitely into Avery. And if that's the only way she'll talk to me, then I'll still play.
This time, I'm playing for her heart.

    Chapter 10
    Avery's POV
I stared straight into Troy's eyes, a look of pure hatred on my face.
"You're a disgusting person Troy. What kind of person would do that to somebody?" I spat.
"The rules are, if you can't handle it, you lose. Can you handle this Av?" he asked, shortening my name.
That's what Derrick called me. Ugh, there is no way I'm letting Troy beat me.
"Of course I can T." I replied, trying my best to sound sweet and polite. I finished dancing with him before I told Ethan what just happened, and he offered to drive me to Derrick's.
"Look, before you do anything stupid, I gotta tell you something." Ethan said.
"What?" I asked, my temper short and my voice harsh.
"I overheard Troy and Logan talking in the locker room yeaterday." he told me.
"What were they talking about?" I asked, wondering where Ethan was going with this.
"Troy was talking about you. He told Logan that he thinks he likes you." he said.
"Stop lying." I replied, not buying what he was saying to me.
"He said he likes how you don't care what people think of you. He likes how you're a challenge. He thinks all the fun is in the chase." he said, putting air quotes around the last phrase. Seriously?
"I don't have time for this! I need to go talk to Derrick. Wait here." I instructed, getting out of the car.
I walked up Derrick's front steps and knocked on the door, which opened a few seconds later.
"Babe, I uh didn't expect to see you tonight." he said, fumbling for words.
"You told me you were going out of town." I stated, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Change of plans. Lillie's sick, and my parents have to work." he explained. Lillie was his little sister.
"So how do you know Troy?" I asked, skipping right to the point.
"We used to play basketball together." Derrick told me, as if it were no big deal.
"So you guys aren't related?" I asked, suspicious of why Derrick wasn't telling the truth.
"No, why?" he asked, confused. What was going on?
"He told me you're his cousin, and that you're using me." I told Derrick. This was really confusing.
"I actually really like you Av. Troy and I aren't related." he said, reaching to grab hold of my hand.
"So why would he lie to me?" I asked, mostly to myself.
"Hey, did you win queen?" Derrick asked, touching the silver crown on my head.
"Yeah." I mumbled, still trying to figure this whole thing out.
"Derrick, why would Troy lie to me about you being his cousin?" I asked, hoping he would know.
"Maybe he's trying to sabotage what we have." Derrick said, kissing my hand.
"What? I mean, what do we have?" I asked him, genuinely curious.
"We're having fun right babe? I like spending time with you." he said. Ouch.
That was the one sentence girls hated to hear. Even girls like me.
"You really think that? He's trying to separate us?" I asked, wondering if it could be true.
"I don't know Avery, but Lillie needs me. I'll text you later." he said, closing the door.
I walked back to Ethan's car, racking my brain for an explanation.
Suddenly it all made sense. What Ethan told me. That Troy likes me. Derrick isn't his cousin.
Troy lied. He's trying to ruin my relationship with Derrick.
    Troy actually likes me.
oh snap. stuff's about to get real. keep reading! 40+ for next chapter(:

    Chapter 9
    Avery's POV
"Avery sweetheart, come on out. Jack and I want to take pictures!" my mother called.
The last thing I wanted to do was go into the living room and take pictures with my stepdad.
"Coming!" I called back, only because I knew it would make my mother happy.
It was 6:45 and Ethan should be arriving any minute.
I slipped my shoes onto my feet and grabbed my phone before walking into the other room.
"You look gorgeous!" my mother said, walking over ho give me a hug. She was careful not to mess up my hair.
"Thanks." I mumbled, strugging to put a smile on my face. Jack told me I looked nice, and I thanked him.
After my mom and Jack snapped a few pictures, the doorbell rang. My mom got it and walked back into the room with Ethan a few moments later. He was wearing black pants and a fancy white button down along with a blue tie that matched my dress. My mom took some pictures of us, then I told her we needed to leave.
"You can't leave me by myself tonight. I'm gonna be the person everyody laughs at." I said.
"No, you're gonna be the person who everybody stares at. You look so different." he told me.
We talked about how much fun we were going to have, and eventually he pulled into the parking lot.
"Fashionably late. Let's do this thing." he said, opening my door for me and offering me his arm.
"You're so sweet! Why don't you have a girlfriend again?" I asked him.
"Because I haven't asked Hannah yet." he replied. Oh yeah, he liked some girl named Hannah.
"Well ask her any time, just not tonight. Tonight you're gonna have a blast with your best friend." I said.
We were laughing as we walked in. The chaperones told us we had to walk down the stairs.
The stairs led to an open gymnasium, and there was a bunch of people already dancing.
They all stopped dancing when Ethan and I started walking down the stairs. They just stared at us.
"What are they looking at?" I whispered into Ethan's ear.
"You." he replied, smiling and enjoying this moment. I decided to do the same.
We danced to Ke$ha, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Beyonce, and Taylor Swift songs before they switched it up.
Bon Jovi's 'It's My Life' was blasting through the speakers as Ethan was at the punch bowl.
I was going to walk over to him, but I saw him talking with Briana, the head cheerleader.
I was on my way back to where ROxy was on the dance floor, but Troy got in my way.
"Avery, you look amazing." he said, sounding breathless. I blushed.
"Uh, thanks." I muttered, walking by him to go back to Roxy. That was weird.
We danced for a few more songs, then Mr. Grant spoke into the microphone to make an announcement.
"I would like to announce your Homecoming king and queen." he said, getting everyone's attention.
I already knew who was going to win. Briana and Troy. They're popular, and the football player and cheerleader always win. It's awkward if they don't. It's just so cliche and expected.
"Your king is, no suprise, Troy Stevens!" Mr Grant exclaimed, opening the envelope. Everyone cheered.
"And now for your queen. In a total change of events, the winner is Miss Avery Carter!"
Wait, what? Mr. Grant did not just call my name. He has to be kidding.
Ethan pushed me up towards the front of the gym and accepted my crown, still confused.
"Congratulations." Troy said, smiling at me. Oh no. Now we have to dance together.
A circle in the middle of the floor was cleared and Troy grabbed my hand, leading me to it.
Always by Bon Jovi started playing, and Troy put his hands on my waist. I moved my hands to his shoulders.
"Is this some kind of joke?" I asked him, and he laughed.
"You winning queen isn't a joke. But there's something that is, and I feel guilty." he told me.
What could Troy possibly feel guilty about? We never feel guilty after pulling pranks or jokes on each other.
"Derrick's my cousin. And I asked him to pretend to be into you. He doesn't really like you." Troy said.
What a jerk. And I actually though maybe he felt bad about something.
But I could tell he didn't feel bad about this. It was all just a part of his plan to bring me down.
Well he better step it up.

    Chapter 8
    Avery's POV
    THREE WEEKS LATER
"So, are you going to go to the dance? You have to!" Ethan said, picking at his fries.
"I really don't want to. But my mother will probably make me." I responded.
We were at the local diner, talking about the Homecoming dance that was in a few days.
I didn't really plan on going, but my mother was really girly and probably wanted me to go.
My mom has had a pretty rough life. She war married to my real father when she had my sister and I.
He passed away when I was four years old. My mother remarried a few years after, and that's who became the father figure in my life. I don't really care for him. My mother notices this, and it upsets her.
She's never really around because of her work, but whenever she is, she really tries hard to make me happy.
She doesn't really like the fact that I've changed, but I don't care. I'm not a little girl anymore.
Her father is about to pass away due to cancer, and she's very fragile right now.
So I think I'm going to go to Homecoming, just to make her happy.
"Well you should. It's gonna be so much fun." he told me, dipping a fry in ketchup.
"I don't even have a date! Nobody's gonna wanna go with me." I told him, stealing a few fries for myself.
"You can be my date! Well, not like a real date, just two friends going together." he said.
"I'll think about it." I said, shrugging my shoulders.
"You can't just turn me down like that! Ouch!" he said, pretending to be offended.
"Okay, I'll go with you. I just have to tell Derrick first..." I replied. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad.
I walked in my house later that afternoon to the scent of freshly baked cookies.
"Mom?" I called out, under the impression that she was home.
"Upstairs!" she called back, and I ran up the stairs to find her dusting a shelf.
"Hi sweetie. How was your day?" she asked, stopping her chores.
"Pretty normal. But um, can you take me shopping? I need a dress for homecoming." I told her.
"You're going to homecoming? My little baby's so grown up!" she said, giving me a hug.
"Okay, let's go." she said, dropping the dusting rag and grabbing her purse from her room.
She drove me to the mall, where we went to her favorite store. I knew she was having fun, because she never shops with my sister or me anymore. My older sister is away at college, so I'm the only one living at home with my mom and step dad. My mom is a girly girl, and I'm the rebellious teenager. But my mom doesn't know that I'm the school rebel. I try and keep my school and personal life separate.
"Avery darling, this dress would look wonderful on you!" she said, holding up a classic black dress.
"I mean, it's not really my style, but it's cute." I said, not wanting to be mean.
After searching for almost thirty minutes, I found the perfect dress. It was a sparkly blue peplum dress that I absolutely loved. I tried it on, and it hug my body perfectly. My mom liked it too.
"Let's go get you some shoes!" she said, so we bought the dress and went to the next store. My mom picked out a pair of silver sparkly heels for me, and she said she had some matching jewelry at home for me.
On the way home, I texted Derrick and told him that Ethan and I were going to homecoming together.
He replied, saying that it was cool and that he hoped I had fun. He was going to be out of town that weekend, which is why he couldn't be my date. I texted Ethan afterwards and told him I was in.
I would never admit it to anyone, but I was excited for Homecoming.
Hey guys! So notifying people takes too much time ! Just follow me, and then you can see when I upload! I'm so sorry, to make up for it, I'll give you a teaser for the next chapter! Feedback yo//
Teaser: "Avery, you look amazing." he said, sounding breathless. I blushed.

    Chapter 7
    Troy's POV
As the final bell rang, I made my way back to my english classroom.
I still can't believe I got detention. If only Avery would at least try and help with the project...
"I didn't expect you to show." I said as I walked into the classroom and saw the blonde sitting there already.
"Yeah, well. I don't have anything better to do this afternoon." she replied, staring at the board.
The teacher, Ms. Litrell wrote a note on the board saying that she couldn't make it, but she expected us to stay and she would know if we didn't because the principal will be checking up on us.
"So remind me again what our topic is?" she asked me, and I rolled my eyes before grabbing the paper.
"We have to teach about the relationship Cassius and Caesar and how stuff like that still exists in the world today." I explained to her. Once I thought about what we actually had to do, something clicked in my mind.
"So Cassius hated Caesar, but didn't ever tell him that. They were rivals. Caesar never trusted Cassius."
I smiled to myself, figuring something out. This was exactly the situation Avery and I were in.
"So they're both rivals, and they fight with each other?" she asked, starting to get it.
"Sound familiar?" I asked her, my eyebrows raised.
"Sounds like us." she replied, laughing a little. I've never made her laugh before.
Her laugh was really cute. I glanced at her when she wasn't looking, and she looked good.
She was wearing a plain grey t shirt with a pair of skinny jeans tucked into black boots. Her hair was pushed back and held into place by a black headband and she had a black and silver bracelet on her left wrist.
She looked cute. She turned and caught me staring, then looked back at her paper.
"So, are you excited for your date with Mary on Thursday?" she asked, a sly look on her face.
"Actually, I invited Derrick and told him to bring you on the date as well. So yeah, Thursday night should be pretty interesting." I replied, smiling deviously back at her. Her face went pale.
"No you didn't. Troy, you said you wouldn't mess this up for me!" sh complained. That's the first time I've heard her say my name in a while. We never really acknowledged each other by our first name.
"That was before you told Mary we were going out together." I responded, as if it were no big deal.
"You're such a jerk." she said, going back to writing teaching plans on her paper.
"So you just tell everybody about Julius Caesar's fall, and I'll take care of the whole relating it to real life part. Got it?" she asked, finally making eye contact with me again. I nodded.
I got up to go to the bathroom, feeling the awkwardness just filling up the room.
When I came back, Avery had a smirk on her face. What was she up to?
"You have detention tomorrow afternoon, and the one after that." she told me, still smirking.
"What? Why?" I asked, not quite believing her.
"Because the principal just came, and asked where you were. So I told him you were skipping." she replied.
"Why would you do that?" I asked, and I truly didn't understand why she would do that.
"It's all part of the fun, isn't it? You mess up my relationship, I mess up something of yours." she responded.
"What exactly did you mess up?" I asked, racking my brain.
"Your big footall game against Valley High." she told me, the smirk on her face growing.
"Avery, that's the biggest game of the season, not to mention our opener! If I miss the bus, I can't play!" I screamed, and she just laughed. This wasn't funny! What was she laughing at?
"You shoulda thought of that before you screwed with mine and Derrick's relationship." she said.
She was getting fiesty. At least she can fight back.
There was something about Avery that I just couldn't put my finger on. She was the school rebel, obviously, and she gave the school a bad name. And it was all because of me. And to be honest, I thought it was really hot.
    So is Avery.
sorry for not uploading yesterday! here's a longer chapter to make up for it!

    Chapter 6
    Avery's POV
"I can't believe you made me go to that party. He made a fool of me!" I exclaimed to Ethan.
It was Monday, and we were sitting in third period, working on an essay.
"At least you had fun, right?" Ethan asked. Please.
"No, not at all. The only good part about it was Derrick." I replied.
"How's it going with you two?" Ethan asked me, and he seemed to actually care.
"Things are pretty good. My parents actually like him, but they think we're just friends." I said.
    "You're not?" he asked, confused.
"It's...complicated." I told him, focusing my attention back to my essay.
Derrick and I were close, yeah. His parents were good friends with my parents. Derrick's really a great guy. He's sweet, he's funny, and he's smart. My parents love him. Which is unusual because they don't usually like the guys that I hang around with. Well, besides Ethan. They love Ethan. But they know he's my best friend.
I went to my next class after the bell rang, then to lunch after that period.
Roxy, Ethan and I sat at our usual table. We talked about our weekend, and Ethan brought up the party.
I listened as he and Roxy talked about how it was actually pretty fun. Whatever.
I walked to english adter lunch, not excited to have to work with Troy.
"Okay class, it has come to my attention that some of you have not been working well together. No, I'm not going to switch your groups, but you will be staying after if you don't do work in class." the teacher said.
"I can't stay after, I have football practice, so you need to get this done." Troy mumbled.
"I remember telling you I don't care if we get a bad grade on this. So I think you need to get this done." I replied, obviously annoyed with him. Just his presence is irritating to me.
"You two haven't been focusing in class, and you have absolutely nothing written in your plans. Detention, for both of you." our teacher said, stomping away. That was kinda rude, and uncalled for.
We sat in silence for a few minutes. I decided to ask him something about his party.
"Why didn't you tell Derrick we can't stand each other?" I asked, curiously.
"Because Derrick's my friend. If he's happy with you, I don't wanna ruin that by telling him I hate his girl."
"Wow, so sweet." I responded, my voice dripping with sarcasm.
We actually tried working on our project, until we were interrupted by someone named Mary.
Mary was known as a nerd. She's super smart, and doesn't care about having fun as long as she had good grades.
"So Troy, Logan told me that you wanted to take me to LaRestaurante Italiano" she said.
I could barely contain my laughter. I bit my lip and looked the other way.
"Uh, Logan didn't tell me that." he replied, trying to be polite. This was too funny.
"Oh, well you might wanna check with him. So pick me up at seven." she said, winking. She then walked away.
"What on earth just happened?" he asked, mostly to himself. I looked at him and he seemed confused.
I started to giggle, and he turned his head to look at me. I tried to stop laughing, but I couldn't.
"Have fun at LaRestaurante Italiano." I said between laughs.
"Why would Logan tell Mary I wanted to go out with her?" he asked, and I laughed even harder.
"I think that's two points for Avery Carter." I said, mocking how he talked in thris person.
He looked at me and suddenly realized why Mary thought they would be going out.
    Gosh, he was so slow.
Happy New Year everybody! I don't wanna go back to school tomorrow :( 40+ faves for next chapter!
