    Nocturne
    Chapter 2
As I entered the cafeteria, a hush fell over the room. Great. I kept my eyes on the
ground as I walked towards the lunch line and purchased a turkey sandwhich.
Looking down at my map of the school, I saw that if I walked out the back door of
the cafeteria, I would find myself in a courtyard. Sure enough, I found myself sitting
against a tree, alone. I pulled my iPod out of my pocket, and let "Breathe Me" by Sia
work it's way into my thoughts. Feeling someone's eyes on me, I looked up. Seated
on a bench across the courtyard, a black haired boy with piercing blue eyes, jeans, a
leather jacket, and Vans was staring at me. He was cute. I didn't want to be rude. But,
desperate times call for desperate measures. Pulling my headphones out, I spoke.
"Do you need something, or are you just enjoying the view?" He quickly looked
away, a blush spreading across his cheeks.
    *******************************************
"Rose! I'll be up in my room!" I called out to my foster mother. Shortly, I heard a knock on the door.
"Hey, sweetie. How was your day?"
    "It sucked."
"Oh honey. I'm sorry. But remember, tomorrow's another day!"
I nodded, trying not to roll my eyes.
"Speaking of tomorrow...I'm not going to be able to give you a ride to school anymore, but there's another kid in your grade who lives nextdoor, and he said he'd give you a ride." I nodded again, and, setting a plate of cookies and a glass of milk on the table, she stoof up and left.
    **************************
    "Callie! You're ride's here!"
"Coming!" I pulled on my sweater and combat boots, and ran downstairs.
    "Callie, this is Peyton."
The boy from the courtyard looked up and met my eyes.

    Nocturne
    Chapter 1
“Class, please welcome our new student, Callie. Callie, would you like to introduce
yourself?” My first period homeroom teacher was the kind of teacher that hates kids,
I could just tell. I looked up at her, and shook my head. “Callie, please come up and tell us
something about yourself.” She said through gritted teeth. Reluctantly, I stood, and dragged
my feet to the front of the classroom. She wanted to know something about me? Fine. “Hi.
I’m Callie. I’m 15, but I’ll be 16 next month. I like dinosaurs. I just moved here to live with a
foster family, because I killed my parents last month. My-” My stick-up-her-but homeroom
teacher cut me off. “Well it’s nice to meet you Callie. Please take a seat.” I trudged back to
    my chair.

    101 Days of Summer
    Chapter Eight
The next week was hell. This girl Lacy, and her friends, kept coming up to me and saying, "Remember me? Remember me?" And Tyler...he was determined to make me remember him.According to the journal I kept before the accident, I loved him. But now, I wasn't so sure.
After a few days of rest, I was good to go for any and all activity. Today we would be working with cabin 3 and 8 on the high ropes course. Lacy and Tyler's cabins. I wasn't sure wheather to dread or look forward to the occasion.
I pulled on a loose light blue tanktop and short white shorts. As the girls and I approached the high ropes course, a cloud of nervousness seemed to hang over my head. I had read in my journal that I was afraid of hights, and I wondered if that still applied now.
"Alright, you'll all be working with a partner." The instructor said, after we all had our harness and helmet on. Zoey and I glanced at eachother.
"Which have already been chosen." Th instructor continued. This was met by groans of displeasure.
    "Zoey and Kate."
    "Ashlyn and Tyler"
    "Miles and Tess"
"Lacy and..." She paused. Oh, great. I knew what she was going to say before the words were out of her mouth.
    "Mia."
Lacy sauntered over to me. "Nervous, Mia?" She said, venom in her sweet tone.
    "No." I looked straight ahead.
"Well, who knows. I might give you a little, shall we say, push, if you need help."
    My heart skipped a beat.
“On your mark, get set, GO”
We were off. “C’mon Mia we got this!” Tyler yelled his brow furrowed. I couldn’t help but laugh. We were gaining on the other boats, when all of a sudden someone collided with us. I had a split second the look up and see who had hit us before our boat capsized.
    It was Lacy.
I gasped, snapping out of my flash back.
"It was you! You pushed me!" I whispered.
She smirked. "And I'd do it again in an instant."
    "But why..."
"Oh, sweetie. You see, Tyler's not a toy to be won. I already own him. And taking him away, well, that would be stealing. And we can't let that happen, now can we?"

    Chapter Seven
    “You…you don’t remember me…” Tyler mumbled.
    “I…I’m sorry…” I didn’t know what to say.
“Tyler. It’s okay. The counselors said she might have memory loss.” Zoey interjected.
“But…We’ve been dating….we’ve kissed….I pulled her out of the lake…I…I…I love her. How can she not remember me!?” This last part was said in anguish.
“Tyler, let it go. She’ll remember…” Zoey sounded uncertain as she pulled Tyler out the door. For some reason, I felt tears prickling at the back of my eyes, as I let my head fall back on the pillows.
“Tell your counselor immediately if you start to feel dizzy or faint!” The nurse patted my shoulder. After three days, I was finally out of the infirmary. After three days of restless sleep…after three days of trying to remember, with no success. Stepping out of the building and heading towards my cabin, all I wanted to do was sleep. Stepping through the door of Cabin 5, I was tackled by three girls. One of them, Zoey, had visited me in the infirmary. I didn’t recognize the other two. “Mia, this is Tess and Skie.” Zoey told me. “Oh. Hi guys.” I said. “We’re so glad you’re back!” Skie cried. Just then, a middle aged woman poked her head in the door. “Lights out ladies! Oh Mia! You’re back!” The woman smiled at me before bowing out the door. I must have looked confused, because the girl named Tess jumped in. “That was Marcie, our cabin mom.”
    “Oh, thanks.” I muttered.
    ***************
I woke with a start when I felt hair tickling my forehead. Someone was bending over me. I started to scream, and the person clamped their hand over my mouth.
    “Shh! It’s just me, Tyler.”
“What are you doing here!” I whispered back.
“I wanted to try one more thing to make you remember me!”
“What is-“ Before I could finish, I felt his lips on mine. After a few seconds, he pulled away. “Remember anything?” He asked.
    “Fake eyelashes….” I murmered.

    Chapter Six
Water surrounded me, and bubbles escaped from my mouth. I opened my mouth to scream, but instead of sound coming out, water filled my lungs. I felt my lungs tighten from lack of oxygen, and as I desperatly kicked and waved my arms, I only felt myself getting lower and lower into the lake. My vision started to blacken around the edges, and the tighter my lungs got, the more the blackness engulfed my eyesight, until I stopped breathing, stopped seeing.
    ********************************
    "Mia! MIA!"
I heard someone yell in the back of my mind. Was it even there? But then it came again.
    "MIA!"
    It sounded....
Before I could finish my thought, I blacked out again.
    **********************************
Lacy and her friends surrounded my bed...which was on...the lake?
Slowly, more people started to appear. My enemies. People who had bullied my at home. People from my old school. Everything that scared me. Spiders started raining down on me, as Lacy-
I sat up, gasping, in a cold sweat. Where was I?
A woman in a green shirt came over.
"Oh good, you're awake. We were beginning to worry." She said.
    "Wh-wh-where am I?" I stuttered.
"You're in the camp infirmary, dear."
"What camp? What happened? What's going on?!"
"Camp Greenberg dear. You fell out of a canoe during a race, and weren't wearing a life jacket. You hit your head on a rock before we could pull you out, and you have a mild concussion. You might have some memory loss...but I'll leave you to your rest now."
I nodded, still confused. Just then, a boy who looked to be about my age, who was lean and muscular, with deep green eyes, and shiny, shaggy brown hair came in. Behind him followed a tall blonde girl with the longest blonde hair I have ever seen, and the bluest eyes in the world. They sat down next to me. The boy took my hand. Nervously, I pulled out of his grasp.
"Mia...what's wrong?" He asked, sounding worried.
    "Wh-wh-who are you?" I asked.
The girl stepped up. "Mia. It's us. Zoey and Tyler. Your best friend and your boyfriend! How are you feeling?"
    I have a boyfriend!?
    "Um...I'm...sorry...I.. I don't remember you..."

    101 Days of Summer
    Chapter Five
The next few weeks passed by in a blaze of colors. It was now late June, and Marcie had informed us that today we would be kayaking with cabins 3 and 8. "Wear something practical!" Marcie said.
As we set out to the lake, our clothes said less "camp in the middle of the woods," and more "tanning at the beach in L.A." I was wearing a navy blue and white striped bikini, a pair of dark denim short shorts, and a dark blue see-through cover up. Skie was wearing a yellow one piece, which on most people would look like a brown paper bag covered in mustard, but some how made her look like a model. Zoey’s outfit consisted of a hot pink triangle bikini and flip-flops. Tess had on a pair of board shorts and a pretty tank top, with a green halter top swimsuit underneath. Arriving at the dock, we saw Tyler, Miles, Perry, and Zach, and some other girls from camp. The guys walked up to us. Tyler put his arm around my neck. “We need partners for the kayaking lesson. I was thinking you and I could partner up.” He whispered in my ear. I smiled and nodded. “Sounds good.” I looked up to see the four other girls staring daggers at us.
“Alright, ladies and germs, partner up! Once you’ve found your partner, please come stand in line to get a life vest.” The kayaking instructor yelled. Tyler grabbed my hand and pulled me, laughing down the dock to where the kayaks were. Once we were assigned to a kayak and, we pushed off. As soon as we were out of hearing distance from the rest of the group, I asked, “Who are those girls?” Tyler looked up. “From the other cabin? That’s Lacy, Ashlyn, Sarah, and Kate. Why?” I coughed. “Because they’ve been giving my the evil eye since we got here, and I’ve never met them before…” Tyler sighed. “Oh…sorry. Lacy…she went to my old school. We dated for a month or so and it was a pretty messy breakup…”
    “Oh?”
“Yeah, don’t worry about her though.”
Just then, the kayaking instructor called out, “Alright kids, listen up. In 10 seconds we’re going to start a race. Everybody line up at the far side of the lake. The first pair to make it to the dock wins.”
    And I can’t swim.

    Chapter Four
The night of the dance had arrived.
Everyone at camp was jittery with excitment, and I had a swarm of butterflies in my stomach.
I carefully applied light eyeliner, blush, and mascara. I wore a white lacy tank top, dark skinny jeans, and silver bangles. I had put my hair in rags the night before, so now it hung in loose ringlets. Zoey came out of the bathroom. "Ohmigosh, Mia, you look amazing!" "You too!" I squealed. It was true. She was wearing a black peasant top and neon pink shorts, Just then, Skie, dressed in blue bermuda shorts and an open white denim jacket, came in. "You guys, Tess is sick, she can't come!"
Zoey and I exchanged a glance. Tess had never wanted to go to the dance in the first place. She was the tomboy of our group, and pretty much just wanted to do the camp activities, and had no interest in love whatsoever. "Aw, that sucks!" Zoey said.
"Totally," I agreed. "Oh well, I guess we'll just have to tell her how it goes!"
Arm in arm, we walked towards the mess hall, where the dance was to be held.
    ****************************
"Alright ladies and gentlemen, it's time to slow things down!" the "DJ" yelled over the noise. He was relaly just one of the counselers, who owned an iTunes account. As the first notes of Christina Perri's "A Thousand Years" boomed through the floor, Tyler approached me. "Hey princess. May I have this dance?" I smiled, and wrapped my arms around his neck. His hands found my waist, and he pulled me closer. "You look beautiful tonight." He whispered in my ear. I looked into his eyes. "You don't look so bad yourself..." Glancing around me, I saw my friends dancing with other guys. "Hey, Mia,"
"I know I've only known you for a week...but I really like you."
"I like you, too" I laughed
"That's good " He smiled. "Hey, are you wearing fake eyelashes?"
    "No..?"
    "You are!"
    "I'm not!"
    "Close your eyes, lemme see!"
I laughed and sighed. "If you insist." As soon as I closed my eyes, I felt his lips on mine.

    Chapter Three
    Dear Mom,
I'm having a great time at camp! The food is really good, and I share a cabin with my three best friends, Skie, Tess, and Zoey. Theres a dance at the end of every month, and the "Welcome to Camp" dance is tomorrow. This guy named Tyler asked me to go with him, and I said yes. So far at camp we've learned archery, canoeing, swam a lot, rock climbed, made too many friendships bracelets, and have a great time. How's everyone at home? Did you remember to give the dog the antibiotics? Oh can you send me some stuff from home...I'm feeling kind of homesick. Well, thats all for now, they're calling us for dinner. Miss You!

    Chapter Two
Just as we had all finished unpacking, the bell for dinner rang.
I took a deep breath, thinking to myself: You can do this. You are not Amelia anymore. You are Mia, and you are beautiful and confident.
Marcie knocked on the cabin door. "Alright-everyone ready for some chow?" She said.
We all rolled our eyes and walked outside. We could see the cabins around us with campers streaming out, headed towards to mess hall. Once we got there, we were all given a plate and rushed through the buffet. Skie, Tess, Zoey, and I all sat our plates down at a table.
I felt someone prod my arm.
"Mia. Look at those guys. They're totally staring at us! I think they might come over here!" Zoey half squealed, half whispered.
I looked up. Sure enough, four guys who looked to be around our age were standing a little ways off. They were one of the few people not seated.
I quickly averted my gaze as I saw them start to approach our table.
"Hey. I'm Miles. This is Tyler, Perry, and Zach. Mind if we sit with you; everwhere else is full." A cute blonde surfer type asked us. I flashed my pearly whites. "Sure thing! Have a seat! I'm Mia, this is Zoey, Skie, and Tess."
"Sweet." Perry said, as they joined us. Zach sat next to Skie, asking, "What cabine are you in?"
"We're in Cabin Five." Skie giggled.
Zach smiled at her, "Cool. We're in Cabin eight, right across from you guys.
Just then, a graying middle aged couple approached the microphone.
"Hello all. My name is Tom Remmington, and this is my wife Carol. We've been running Camp Greenberg since it opened, thirty years ago. Today we'd like to welcome you o camp, and lay down a few ground rules. Carol?" The man stepped away from the microphone, and was replaced by the woman, Carol. Clearing her throat, she began, "Alright. So the boys cabins are the even numbers, and the girls cabins are the odd numbers. As this is a coed camp, I'm sure we'll have a lot of fun this summer. However, there are some guidlines we need to follow."
    "1. No visitors after hours.
    2. No one except you cabin mates in you cabin after lights out. and by the way. Lights out does me lights out.
    4. Only swim in the lake when you ar ebeing supervised. This rule applies to canoes, kayaks, and row boats.
    5. This is the most important rule of all:HAVE FUN"
I smiled as the dining hall applauded. This should be easy enough.

    Chapter One
"Amelia!" My mom knocked on my door. "We should leave in about five minutes."
"Okay mom. And it's Mia, remember?"
"Sure, sweetie." She nodded, closing the door.
I sighed, and turned to face the mirror.
The girl looking back looked nothing like me.
My normaly frizzy, flat, auburn hair was in loose ringlets, that were so shiny they glistened.
My face look airbrushed, and my makeup perfectly accentuated my features.
The ligh blue ruffled tanktop I was wearing, paired with denim short shorts, brought out my curves.
    I looked...beautiful.
    I smiled in the mirror.
"Mia, you are going to have one hell of a summer." I thought to myself.
    ****************************************
"Bye, sweetie." My mom hugged me one last time. "I'll see you in three months." She smiled.
"Bye, Mom. Miss you!" I called as she drove away.
A women in khaki pants and a green polo walked up to me.
"Hi, are you Mia Shwartz?" She asked.
    I smiled and nodded.
    "I'm your cabin mom, Marcie."
"Nice to meet you." I said, shaking her hand.
"Follow me, I'll show you to the cabin." She smiled back.
    ******************************************
"Oh, wow!." I said, looking around me.
There were two sets of bunkbeds across the room from eachother. On either side of each bunkbed there was a small dresser. The walls were made of wood, and the floors had thick carpets on them. There was a fire place in the corner, surrounded by four bean bags.
"Now, don't get too excited, you won't have much time to spend here; you'll be so busy with other activities. I'll leave you to unpack, you're the first one here so you have first dibs on whatever bed you want." Marcie patted my shoulder, then turned towards the door. I slowly walked to the bottom bunk on the far left. Unzipping my duffel bag, I began putting my new clothes in the dresser.
"Oh hey, you must be Mia!" A peppy voice startled me out of my methodical unpacking.
I looked up to see a tall girl with long, straight, blonde hair, and the bluest eyes I had ever seen. She was wearing a layered chiffon top and neon blue shorts. Her lips were a glossy pink and her eyes were defined with black liner. "I'm Zoey!" She said.
"Oh, hi! I guess we're going to be room mates, huh? Marcie said to pick a bed." I replied, trying my hardest to be outgoing. Just then, two other girls, a short red head and a tan girl with black hair came in. The red head was wearing leggings and a large concert t shirt, and the other girl was wearing a summery dress. I walked over to them, my heart pounding. "Hi, I'm Mia, and this is Zoey."
"I'm Tess." The red head replied.
"I'm Skie." The girl with black hair smiled.
It was decided that Tess and Skie would share a bunk, and Zoey and I woud have the other one.
I smiled to myself, satisfied that I had survived my first day as Mia.

    Rrrriiinnnggggg!!!!!
"Have a good summer class!" My seventh period teacher called.
Her voice was immediately drowned out by the sounds of chairs scraping against the linoleum floor, zippers being closed around backpacks, and wild chattering.
I waited until most of the other kids had left the class, before braving the hallways of Lincoln Middle School. I let loose a sigh of relief, knowing that this was the last time I would ever have to walk across the sqeaky floors of this hell-on-earth. I glanced up from my walk outside, just in time to see my best friend coming charging at me. "AMMMEELLLIIAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
    "Hi, Kate." I laughed.
"I'm sooo excited for suummer! You know, it's really too bad that you're going away alllll summer! We could've had sooo much fun together! Bonfires, swimming...."
At this point, I tuned her chattering out, instead thinking of my plan. This summer, I was going to be someone completley different. Gone were the days of nerdy, bookish, Amelia. I had spent all my babysitting money on new clothes, accesories, and products, and all my time on my personality.
    ******************
Waving goodbye to Kate at the corner, I turned down the street leading to my house. Stepping inside, I was hit with a blast of fresh air. I set my backpack down in the closet, and I grabbed a large duffel bag out of the closet instead. As I walked to my bedroom to pack for camp, I smiled.
    Summer was here.
