Part 9
Of course I didn't confirm it with my parents yet. Did he think I would've just called them up and been all like, "Yeah, so I'm skipping college and traveling the world with my dead best-friend's brother." Haha, no. They would think I was crazy! Which I was, for thinking they would let me go. I cleared my throat, "No, not yet. I'm heading over to Silvia's right now to talk about it over dinner." He laughed, "Alright, well... call me when you know the answer. Ok?" I smiled, "Yes, of course Jake." I swiped to end the call and I was pulling into the parking lot of Silvia's. I smelled the pizza, pasta, and salad bar. "YUM!" I thought in my head. I saw my parents going inside and I ran to catch up with them. My mom spotted me, "Kendall! Dear!" She did the three kiss on the cheek thing and I just smiled at my father. "Hey guys." I said plainly. My mom clapped her hands together and grinned big. "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go eat and listen to our daughter tell us some fasinating news!" She faced my father and he opened the door for the two of us. The hostess came to us, "How many?" My mom straightend her pencil skirt then smiled at her, "Three, please and thankyou." She showed us to a booth by a window and I sat by myself across from my two parents. I ordered a pink-lemonade and my parents got mojitos. I sipped a big sip and began telling them all about seeing Jake for the first time in a long time, about him being threatned. The kissing, and how I wanted to skip college for a while and travel the world. They just sat there and fiddled with bread and their napkins. Finally my mother broke the silence, "Well...you are almost eighteen..." She looked to my father for help and BOY did he help, "That has nothing to do with is Marcille. NOTHING. Do you want her to be able to hav a family and support it? Huh? Well, how the HELL will she be able to do that if shes travelling the world with a stinkin' college drop-out!" My mom and I exchanged glances and sipped quietly. "Well, you heard him sweetie. Out of the question."

Love on the beach;Part 8That's right. I could be with him now. The two of us...traveling the world. God. What was I gonna say to my parents? Surely Toby would have something to say about it too. And no doubt, Amelia also. But, Jake. He....loved, me! I couldn't leave him and go to college. It was out of the question for the condition he was in. I mean, it was just like saying flat out that everything between me and him...was fake. Not that we had been like this for long. One day, but...we have known eachother for WAY longer. I brushed a piece of hair out of his face and smiled at him. His arm was wrapped around me, and I didn't want him to let go. But, I had to get home. "I should get going," I sighed. "Gotta tell the 'rents about college." He kissed me and let go. "Alright," He smiled. "Call me later." I nodded my head and headed back to my car. I hopped in and zoomed home. Toby was sitting outside on the deck listening to reggae music. But, what was the issue? That I loved someone too much to go to college? They would never fall for it. But, then again...when I'm 18, they have ZERO control. I dialed my Mom's number and called her. She answered the phone, "Hello?" Oh god. "Hi Mom, it's Kendall." I said. "Oh, hi honey! What's up?" I hesitated for a moment then replied, "Do you guys wanna get some dinner? I have some news to share." She laughed, "Look at you! Being so grown-up!" Yeah, I'm already making desicions for my life. "Sure, sweetie. Can Toby come?" NOOOOOOOOO! "Uhm, ya know I would feel better if I told y'all first." I made that way nicer. "Okay, how about we meet at Silvia's in about 25 minutes?" Silvia's was the place we always went. I loooved it! "Sure! See you then!" I hung up and took a deep breath. Oh right! I was supposed to call Jake. I decided to call him in the car since it takes about 15 minutes to get to Silvia's. I gathered my purse and began to put on some makeup. I applied my cover-up that made me look "warm" and "happy". I put on thin eyeliner on the top lid and put some sweet pink eyeshadow. I put some natural color blush then "lash excelrator" mascara. I did a quick check and grabbed my car keys. I raced down the stairs and Toby stopped me. "Where ya going? To be with Jake?" Puh-leezee! "Uhm. No. Why?" I pursed my lips. "Just wondering," He was using his douche-bag tone. "Then where are you off to?" I fixed my sweater then replied, "I'm just going to have some dinner with Mom and Dad." I walked past him and jumped in my car and zoomed off. I plugged in my bluetooth and dialed Jake. He picked up quickly, "Hey there!" That perky dude! "Hey Jake! What's going on?" I'm assuming not much, after what just happened. "Just planning some stuff about our trip. Did your parents confirm it?"

Love on the beach;Part 7He let go of the tight hug. He grasped my arm, "What does it mean?!" I kissed him unexpectandly. He dropped my arm. "I don't know Jake," I didn't really know what to say. "...I mean, it could just be a prank!" He didn't believe it. "Her death...I think it was on purpose." He was about to burst into tears again. "I have to leave, the state." He always wanted to skip college and travel around the world to see all different kinds of architecture. Maybe this was the time. "Remember how you always wanted to travel the world?" My words calmed him, "Maybe this is the time," A smile spread across his face. "Yeah! But..." He turned his frown upside-down. "You would have to come too," Me? Go with him? Skip college? I couldn't but, maybe I had to. "Tell you what Jake," He smiled at me. "If I don't get accepted into SMU, I'm all yours." I smiled and kissed his cheek again. My parents would never approve. But when I'm 18...they can't control me. "Great." He stood up and pulled me up. He grabbed my hands. "Then it's a deal." My iPhone rang loudly, I picked it up and walked towards my car. "Hello?" The lady on the other line spoke, "Hello Miss Benson. This is Amy McHalen from Santa Monica University." What perfect timing. "Oh, hello Mrs. Mchalen!" She cleared her throat, "You have been accepted with a scholarship to our university. If you choose to accept, you need to let us know before July 31st. Okay?" What?! I'm accepted?!?! I stared back at Jake who was tying his shoelace. "Okay, I will let you know. Oh and Mrs. Mchalen?" I smiled. She replied, "Yes Kendall?" I grinned, "Thank you! Have a wonderful day!" I swiped to end the call. I started running to Jake, then remembered the "Travel the World" thing. I slowed my pace. "Who was that?" He smiled at me. I sighed, "The University." He grinned, "What did they say?!" I didn't wanna tell him, I loved him too much. "I didn't get in." I faked a frown and ran into his arms for comfort. He smiled down at me and kissed my forehead. "It's okay! You can be with me now."

Milly set down the ball, she motioned me to sit down on a bench with her. "Kendall," She started, "There is something you don't know...or, probably would've never knew because no one knew you were in communication with, Her." I bit my lip and sighed, "I still don't understand-" She was standing now and gazing up into a tree. I stood up next to her. "Kendall, you need to know that Mrs. Jacobsen... you can't trust her because...when your parents met at SMU she was there for a tournament. She met your father, and they hit it off. She lied to your mother and led her to think he was single. Which was a lie. I'm sorry, but you must decline her offer." I stared at her un-believingly. "NO!" I shouted, "That is the best offer I have ever heard of. If I don't get into SMU. Then...that's where I'm going!" I ran and grabbed my bag then zoomed off in my car. Love on the beach;Part 5I brushed Jake's hand off of me. "Toby...let me explain." Jake and Toby had always been enemies. Same age, same popularity status. Ideal friends, but not for them. It all started when Jake's soccer team beat Tony's in the State Finals. At age twelve. Toby picked off his keys from the floor. "You should. Kendall! What are you doing with him? Mom and Dad are going to be soooo mad..." I turned to Jake, "Jake, maybe you should go. I'll call you later." I smiled and walked him to the door where we hugged and he kissed me on the cheek. I closed the door behind him and walked over to Toby who was pouring a glass of Iced Tea. He stared at me expecting an answer. "Toby, he showed up wanting to talk about SMU and it lead to this. We are not even dating I promise." He sipped his Iced Tea thru his straw and stared at the floor. He jerked his head up and glared at me, "Do you think Caitlyn would've wanted this?" He closed his eyes then reopened them. "Don't bring Cait into this." I checked my phone, 11:45. I glanced at my outfit. I quickly hurried upstairs and changed into my regular Volley Ball get-up. I ran downstairs, grabbed my bag and keys. Checked my phone again expecting a text from Milly. None. I headed out the door, noticing I never told my brother where I was off to. Love on the beach;Part 4I stopped fast. "I am...and you are?" I had never seen this person in my life...or at least thats what I thought. "Jake Masterson." ...Did he just say Jake...Masterson?!?! Jake Masterson was the brother of my best friend who died in the sixth grade due to a drowning in a local pool. "J-j-jake? I never thought I would see you again." Jake is two years older than me but he was only a freshman in college at SMU. "I heard you were coming to SMU, so I thought I would stop by and talk to you." He smiled, I loved his smile. He was always so good looking. I smiled, "Oh yeah, uhh, why don't you come and have a glass of lemonade." He smiled and nodded in acceptance to my offer. We started walking and soon reached the beach house. He admired it from afar, "Woahh. It's beautiful." He had always had an eye for arcitecure. "I know right." I smiled softly, kind of a lame respond to someone who could speak so well in a subject like this. I headed towards the fridge and poured him an ice cold glass of lemonade. I put a lemon on the side. "Ooh, fancy!" He said when he picked up the lemon and squeezed it into the glass. I took the juiceless lemon and popped it into my mouth, he laughed. "Always silly Kendall." Till now I never really noticed how much I had a crush on him, he was so handsome. "Yeah, thats me!" My iPhone beeped and I pulled it out. It was 11:30 and Amelia was texting me to remind me about noon. I took a sip of Jake's lemonade and licked my lips. I giggled, "Sorry, I couldn't help it!" He laughed and then brushed the hair out of my face. "You're so cute..." I smiled and poked his nose. "So are you." I moved my finger and he leaned in for a kiss. I leaned in too. We kissed full on. One of the best ever. When the door opened and my brother Toby walked in. He dropped his keys on the ground and stared in awe. We were still kissing when I noticed him. I quickly jerked away.

Love on the beach;Part 2Amelia handed me an ice cold glass of water. I had gotten the pitcher of Lemonade out, but for Milly. Sugar was out of the question. I quickly put the Lemonade back in the fridge. "You're getting good, kid." Milly patted my back as she complimented my very bad skills. She was older than me, already a freshman in college at MSU. She had come out for the summer to help me train. "Thanks," I replied simply. "I just wish I had time to enjoy summer. Ya know? Like a teen." Amelia set down her glass slowly then jerked my hand forwards and walked me upstairs. "Let me show you something," she was heading towards my family study. When we got to the top she dragged me to a wall filled with all of my family diploma's. "You see these? Everyone in your family earned these. By all work, no play..." She stopped for a moment and looked at me. "If you want your college diploma up there, next to those. You will do all work, play. Understand?" Wow, she was being harsher than ever. "Yeah," I sighed. "Good." She smiled. "I will meet you at the court at noon, sharp." She kissed my cheek then left me alone in the big study.

Love on the beach;Part 1"Kendall! Kendall!" Milly shouted waving her hands side to side in the air, "Over here!" I could hardly see her behind the brand new volleyball net my grandparents had just bought my family and I to go along with our brand new beach house in Santa Monica. It was a beautiful view and it was so much fun. The volleyball net was so I could practice and get into to USM with a scholarship for sports. My parents we're pushing me so hard, and volleyball wasn't even my first pick. Journalism was, but nooo...my life was owned by them. No freedom, well...hardly. We we're from San Fransico but we always visited my grandparents in Santa Monica. I always wanted to move there. But, I never thought I actually would. Sadly, I guess I have to. I remembered about Milly then positioned the ball for a serve and up went the ball, flying over the net into the sky. "God dammit, Kendall." My brother Toby snarled at me. "Why do you always have to mess up?" I shot him a cold glare then returened my focus to Milly. "Sorry Mill, I have a lot on my mind today." Amelia, or Milly for short, was my best friend. She was always there to help me. Thank god, I have no idea what I would do without her. "It's fine...let's just go get a drink Kendall." Milly grabbed my arm and headed inside.
