Catch Me if You Can
Chapter 3
The next morning, I woke up with my pale blue blankets on the floor.
I sniffed, as the strong aroma of bacon and pancake mix filled my nose.
My stomach began to rumble, as I licked my lips, eager for something to eat.
I quickly took a cold shower, and brushed my teeth.
I threw on a floral off shoulder top, and a pair of white shorts.
I ran down the stairs, just to see my father placing a big stack of pancakes on the diner table.
"Good morning, dad." I polietly said, sliding in a wooden seat.
My dad chuckled, as he smiled. "Good morning, Colby. Eat up, I remember my chocolate chip pancakes were your favorite."
I drizzled my pancakes in thick syrup, as I took a big bite, letting the flavor soak in my mouth.
I hadn't eaten my dad's pancakes in years, not after him and my mother got a divorce.
"These are great." I complimented.
My dad smiled, as his eyes twinkled with happiness.
"I'm glad you're back with me, Colby. I've missed you throughout these years."
I took in a deep breath, "I missed you, too."
I finished my breakfast, as I offered to wash the dishes.
"Colby, are you doing anything today?" my father called out from the living room.
"Actually, I am. I made a friend last night." I replied, drying off the platter.
"Really? That was fast. When are you going out?" he asked.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang, as I flinched from surprise.
"I guess now." I grinned secretly, jogging up to the door.
I took in a deep breath before opening the door to see Harry.
I swung the door wide open, as Harry stood on my front steps, grinning.
"Hey, Colby. Ready to go?" Harry asked.
I looked over my shoulder, and waved bye to my dad.
"I'm going out now, dad. Bye!" I smiled, sprinting out the doorway.
Harry laughed at me, as I nearly tripped over a step, but balanced myself out.
I blushed with embarassment, and slapped his shoulder.
"It's not funny." I grumbled, fixing my top. "We are meeting with your friend's today, right?"
Harry nodded, as he bit down on his lower lip.
"Yeah... we're going to see them at the beach."
There Harry goes again with his sudden hesitation.
What was up with him?
We paced to the beach in silence, which I wasn't too fond of.
Harry's eyes shifted towards a group of people, who were laughing loudly.
"There they are." he muttered under his breath, grabbing my wrists.
He pulled me towards the group, as they all smiled and greeted Harry.
"Well, whose this beautiful girl?" a guy asked, shaking his blonde hair away from his eyes.
I flustered, still not used to getting hit on, even if I was 16.
Harry gripped his hands around my wrists tightly.
"This is Colby. I met her yesterday, and she's off limits." Harry said, trying not to sound too protective.
"Alright, man. Whatever you say." the guy smirked, raising his hands up in surrender.
I saw Harry's eyes frantically searching the group, as if he was looking for someone.
Harry let go of my wrists, as he leaned over in a tall, red headed girl's ear, and whispered.
The red head turned to face him, and said lowly, but still audible, "She's not here yet."
