    She's sitting in her room,
and in her bed she lies.
With the music turned up loud,
to drown out all her cries.
She keeps reading through the texts,
that she knows 'sorry' just won't fix.
And she's dreaming of a place,
    where happy endings still exsist.
She keeps going through the photo's,
and all of the memories fade to black.
And the thought keeps running through her mind,
    "He'll never take me back."
    He's sitting in his bedroom,
    lying on his bed.
    Reading through the messages,
    regretting everything he said.
The x-box is on the floor,
    along with every game.
And he used to play with her,
but now it's not the same.
    His music's turned up loud,
to drown out all his cries.
And he knows it will never be enough,
    to just apologize.
While he starts to think about it more,
he knows he lost his own bestfriend.
And that's when he whispers through his tears,
    "She'll never love me again."

    Girls Like me.
    Prolouge
When I was 13, the only guy I had ever liked, asked me out.
I was thrilled, in fact, I remember not being able to stop smiling.
He told me everything I wanted to hear, did everything I wanted to see.
In my eyes, he was perfect.
But 5 months later, he broke it off, like nothing was wrong.
His friends laughed and joked about how foolish I was to believe that someone like him would actually fall for a girl like me.
I was devistated, to the point where I would miss days of school to avoid the torture.
After all the nights of crying, my mom finally agreed to send me to my dad's house in Maine.
"2 years Bree, then you're coming home." I remember her telling me as I boarded my flight.
The day I left for my dad's house, I promised myself I would be a stronger person when I came home.
Not only that, but I promised myself that I would get revenge on the boy that broke my heart.
During those two years, I grew out my blonde hair, that now reached over half way down my back.
I ran two miles everyday, giving me the legs and body of a super model.
I turned myself into my ex boyfriend's deffinition of perfect, in hopes that maybe he would fall for me again.
This time though, he would be the one to end up feeling broken.
And now, here I stand, two years later, as a 15 year old.
In just 5 minutes, my flight would be landing back in California, back in the hell hole that I left 2 years ago today.
As we neared closer to the ground, I pictured all of my friends waiting for me at the airport.
Then, I pictured the look on Jake's face when he saw the girl that i've become.
When the flight came to a complete stop, I grabbed my bags and began making my way off of the plane.
"Bree!" Jaycie and Zoe shrieked, greeting me with a huge hug.
"I missed you guys so much!" I exclaimed.
They helped my bring all of my bags out to the car, and then, we began our journey back to my house.
"So," Zoe began. "Are you here to fall in love with Jake again?" She raised her eye brows teasingly.
"Hah." I let out a sarcastic laugh. "In his dreams."
I wasn't being cocky, just confident.
"Well from what I hear, he's excited to see you again." Jaycie sighed.
"Well, I guess we'll see." I muttered, noticing we were almost home.
As we entered my driveway, my mom anxiously pulled open the car door.
"It's so good to see you again honey!" my mom squeezed me.
"It's good to see you again too mom." I replied, a little embarrassed.
Then suddenly, another car pulled into the drive way.
"What's up short stuff?" Ryan laughed, hopping out of his car, along with Noah and Jake.
I laughed, greeting him with a hug.
    Then Noah, and then Jake.
"It's good to see you again." Jake smiled slightly.
"It's good to see you, too." I lied right through my teeth.
I stared at him, taking in that familiar smile, and the mouth that lied to me so many times.
This Summer, I was going to show Jake how much stronger I have become.
I was going to show him what he gave up 2 years ago.
And most of all, I was going to show him why you don't mess with
    girls like me.

    True story; (worth the read)
Today when I was waiting in line at the store with my Mom, a little girl pointed at me and whispered to her mom, "What are those scars from on her? And why doesn't she have as much hair as I do? What's that thing on her head?"
The mom turned to her and said "Sophie, that girl is probably one of the strongest people you will meet. She has a disease and to cure it she has to take a form of medicine that makes her hair fall out. She's no different than me, or you. She's probably been through much more than she deserves. And.."
The little girl stopped her from talking and ran over to me.
She handed me a chocolate bar and said "I'm sorry you had to go through this."
She took off my bandana and she said "Walk around like that. You're much prettier." Then she smiled and hugged me. I hugged her back with tears in my eyes and thanked her.
    Then she walked away.
I can't stop crying. There are still good people in the world.

"No, did you just say no?" My brother Jake gawks at me.
"I do not want to go see and meet One Direction." I roll my eyes.
It has been two years since Zayn left me and never looked back. I don't want to see Zayn. But I wouldn't mind meeting the others.
"Please. You need to get out of the house." He waves the two tickets in the air teasingly.
I bite my lip. I really want to go. "I guess it couldn't hurt." I give in.
"We leave in 15 minutes." He winks at me and walks out of the room.
I throw on some shorts and a flowy tank top with sandals.
"Ready? Leggo." Jake pulls out the driveway.
The traffic is ridiculous. All this for One Direction? Well they are the next big thing as my magazine says.
"We have section 133, row L, seats 5 and 6." Jake tries to navigate his way through screaming girls.
"Found it." I slide passed people, ignoring the dirty look, and take my seat.
But 10 minutes after I sit down the lights dim and music starts. This girl behind me screams so loud I swear I could have lost all hearing ability.
"This is why I didn't want to come." I try to scream over the music.
"You just didn't want to see Zayn again." Jake rolls his eyes.
I sigh because he's right. I don't have the intentions to see him. But I see him everywhere. I see him on posters, t-shirts, all over stores. He's plastered everywhere. How am I supposed to get him out of my head?
    -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Surprisingly, I get through the concert. But here comes the worst part. It's time to meet the boys. Jake is the craziest guy directioner ever. He's totally fangirling. While I'm just sitting rolling my eyes.
The door opens and Jake stands up.
    "HIIIIII!" Niall screams.
"Not so loud Niall." Liam smiles.
"Yeah Niall. Louder. Like this." Louis screams. He's so cute.
Harry smiles and finally Zayn walks in. He stops when he sees me.
    "Tatiana?" His jaw drops.
"Malik." I mumble. I'm ready to leave.
"Okay then. What do you guys want to do? You have the rest of the night with us!" Liam smiles.
"Wait. The rest of the night? It said we get to meet you." Jake is controlling his excitement.
"We like have um nothing to do." Harry shrugs.
"Cool." Jake smiles and elbows me.
"Ow." I elbow him back making everyone but Zayn laugh.
"You guys want some Nandos?" Niall rubs his stomach.
I decide that I'm going to interact with the rest of the boys. They don't deserve that. Zayn deserves every amount of hatred I give towards him.
    "Why not?" I smile.
    This should be fun.

My name is Tatiana and I am now the ex girlfriend of Zayn Malik. He is auditioning for the X-Factor and he wants to concentrate on his music. My heart is breaking and I want to curl in a ball.
"I really want to win." He rubs my shoulders.
I take a step away from him. I don't want anything to do with him right now.
    "Just go." I whisper.
"Tatiana, please. Don't be mad." He tries to walk in my apartment.
"No Zayn! GO!" I scream at him.
He stops. "Fine. If you don't want to talk to me anymore, whatever makes you happy. But I will never forget about you. You were my first love."
I will never forget about you repeats in my head. Did he honestly mean that?
"Zayn wait." I run after him.
He turns around and raises an eyebrow.
"I'll vote for you." I avoid what I wanted to say.
He smiles. "Thanks. I promise I'll visit you."
He kisses my cheek and slides into the car. I wait for it to be out of sight and start crying my eyes out.

    The Beach House
    ~Introduction~
"Kendal!" I groaned, I'd been caught.
My attempts at sneaking back in past curfew had failed, again.
I submissively walked into my living room.
"Yes Mom?" I smiled, acting innocent.
She gave me that 'Don't you give me that' look, so I looked down and waited for her to start ranting.
    "Where have you been?!"
    "I was at Mickey's"
I cringed, waiting to see the familiar flicker of anger in her eyes at the mention of my boyfriends name.
I saw it, and I knew I was done for.
"How many times do I have to tell you that he is a bad influence on you! First your grades dropped, then your clothes changed, then it was the screaming music, and-" She stopped abruptly and I wondered what was wrong, until I saw her eyes flicker to my nose.
I froze, knowing I was in so much trouble.
"Please tell me that is not a nose piercing!" My mother screeched.
I'd got it done earlier today - Mickey said the other day how he loved girls with nose piercings so I got it done, I loved to make him happy like that.
Yes, he was a little scary looking with his many piercing, tattoos, drinking habits and his few run-ins with the cops, but I loved him.
"Mom, I'm 16, you can't tell me what to do." I said, trying to sound firm, but the break in my voice gave me away.
"Kendal Laurell, I raised you better than this! I don't know what to do with you anymore! This is the third time this week you've snuck in past curfew! And it's only the first week of summer! I've had it up to here with you!" She exclaimed, waving her arms about to add emphasis.
"I'm sorry Mom, I don't know what to say." I told her honestly.
I hated making my Mom upset, but Mickey wanted me to stay. I told him I couldn't but he started to get angry, and threatened to break up with me, and I couldn't let that happen.
"Tell me you'll do as you're told for once - and you can start by taking out that nose piercing! Or even better, break up with Mickey." She practically pleaded.
"But I love him Mom." I replied.
She stayed silent for a long time, and I was starting to get a little nervous, there was just something eery about the dead silence in the middle of the night.
After a long, strange silence, my mother looked me dead in the eyes, and spoke the words I was least expecting.
"Fine, you won't play by my rules, then... You can go stay with your Dad for the summer."
I felt my stomach churn, and my heart sink.

    The Beach House
    ~Chapter 1~
The familiar sound of the sea was filling my ears.
The familiar feeling of the sand between my toes was everywhere.
The familiar smell of the salty water filled my nose.
Everything about this place was all too familiar.
I used to love it here.
I remember surfing through the californian waves, and running down the pier.
It seemed like only yesterday that-
I stopped that thought immediately, telling myself to not re-live that awful memory.
It was in the past, burried deep.
I hadn't been here in years, I hadn't seen my Dad for years.
And now I had to spend my whole summer here, with someone who I called a stranger.
I glanced behind me, back at the house my father lived in.
It was huge, on the better end of the naighbourhood, and was only a few minutes walk from the beach.
You could see the beach and nearly touch the sand.
I could hear the people screaming and laughing from the pier, and the loud music was blaring.
The sun was just setting over California; I'd been here for a few hours now, and it had been the most awkward few hours of my life.
I'd tried unpacking my case as slowly as possible, but I hadn't bought much with me.
I'd tried calling Mickey, but he wasn't answering.
He'd gotten so angry when I'd told him I was being made to go to LA for the summer, saying it was all my fault my Mom was mad at me.
He was the main reason we argued.
I loved him, and I hate it when he's like this.
I tried not to think of all the girls he'll hook up with while I'm away.
I know he does it, and he knows that I know he does it.
He also knows I love him too much to end the relationship.
I swiped away at a tear that escaped.
I heard coughing from behind me.
"Oh.. Hey, um, Kendal. I.. uh, made dinner. Sushi.. you like that, right?" My Dad stumbled.
It was reassuring to know this was awkward for the both of us.
I shrugged my shoulders and nodded.
He sighed in relief and walked back into the house.
I looked out at the pier and saw someone looking almost as miserable as me.
He looked around my age, with tanned skin and the most gorgrous brown hair.
He was too far away for me to see his eyes, but I could tell he was... beautiful, for lack of a better word.
He was working a stall on the pier and was clearly frustrated with the little children, arguing over who got the big bear.
I smiled to myself, knowing that someone else was suffering tonight, before I walked in for my dinner with a huff.

    The Beach House
    ~Chapter 2~
I looked out down the beach.
8am, the perfect time for surfing.
No one was around, it was peaceful.
I walked down to the end of the beach, a few miles down.
I then climbed up the huge rocks and then through the palm trees that grew there until I found it.
    The Beach House.
My Dad had built it when I was small, we'd come here all the time.
It's where we used to keep all our old surfing gear, although now, it looked like it'd been deserted for years.
The memories came flooding back as I opened the doors.
The first thing I saw was my little old surf board.
It was pink, with a yellow stripe going down it, with a flower on the end.
I used to use that board for every competition I did, it was my good luck charm.
I ran my fingers along the shelf where all my trophies were, as were my dads.
All the pictures, all the medals, they all took me back to a time when I was part of a happy family.
I closed my eyes, and spun around 180 degrees, where I knew my favourite recliner chair would be.
    I opened my eyes slowly.
There it was, the chair my father and I would cuddle up on after every competition.
There was a blanket slung over the top and it lookde like something was underneath.
Intriuged, I pulled off the cover, only to find a sleeping boy under!
I let out a piercing scream from the shock.
Imediately, the boy sprung up, looking round with bloodshot eyes, clearly thinking he was in danger.
His eyes rested on me, and he jumped a mile, banging his head on my trophy shelf, sending them flying everywhere.
I heard a smash, and I looked down to see my favourite photo ever had been smashed to pieces.
"Who are you?!" The boy yelled.
"Who am I?! Who are you?!" I sreamed back.
After all, he was the one in my beach house!
"Yeah, well I asked first!" He shouted.
"Well!" I angerd, "I'm the girl who this place belongs too! Now who are you?!"
He looked like he didn't believe me.
"No you're not! I've been coming here for months and never seen anyone before!"
"Maybe because I haven't been here in years!" I raged, how dare he!
He folded his arms, looking firm.
"You don't own this, now I was trying to sleep." He turned his back and collapsed back in the chair.
    I was fuming.
I saw a bottle of water by the chair, obviously put there by him, so I grabbed it and emptied the contents onto his face.
He leapt up again and looked like he would punch me if I was a guy.
    "You little..." He trailed off.
I grabbed the smashed photo, and pulled out the picture, cutting my hands on all the broken glass.
"See this?! ME and MY dad." I growled, shoving the picture into his chest for him to see.
    He examined it.
"This." I picked up my little surfboard, "Is the surfboard I competed on when I was a kid. These." I kicked all the trophies that were on the floor, "Are all my wins."
He looked around the place, and then back at me.
I then suddenly realised he was the miserable guy last night from the pier.
And he was even hotter up close!
"So you're a surfer, huh?" He asked, softer.
"Oh, so now you're going for the 'nice guy' approach, seeing as you've been living in my beach house for the last few months?" I raised my eyebrow in disbelief.
"Not all the time, but it's nice here. Sorry, I thought it was abandoned." He explained.
"Well, it's a good thing I caught you and not my dad."
I saw the corner of his mouth twitch into an almost smile.
He bent down and began to pick up the trophies.
"I'm Tyler by the way." He introduced.
    "Kendal." I said flatly.
"Well Kendal, it's nice to meet you. Now how about we take care of those hands? They look pretty cut up." He stated, examining them.

    ~Chapter 3~
I hissed through my teeth as he pulled out a large piece of glass from my hand.
"Are you sure you know first aid?" My voice shook with fear.
"Yeah, I'm a lifeguard here at the beach." He explained, his brow furrowed as he tended to my damaged hands.
    "It hurts." I wimpered.
"I know, I'm sorry." He appologised for the hundredth time.
    "It's okay." I mumbled.
He gripped another big bit of glass with the first aid tweezers and gently tugged.
I screamed in pain and burst into tears.
He stopped immediately and looked so guilty.
    "S-sorry." I sniffled.
    He shifted uncomfortably.
"It's only my first proper day here and already I just want to go home." I tried to make a joke out of it, but there were truth in my words and I think he saw through that.
"I know, just let me get the glass out and then we can see if it needs stitches and whether you need to go to the hospital." He tried to calm me.
I took some deep breaths and gave him my hand again.
"I'll count to three." He suggested.
I nodded and placed my hand in his.
"One... Two..." He quickly yanked out the glass when I wasn't expecting it.
    I gasped in shock.
"I feel sick." I told him, only half joking.
"I can only see one more tiny piece. It won't hurt a bit." He assured.
I nodded and closed my eyes and he tugged the last bit out.
He picked up some antiseptic and I took more deep breaths as the stinging was horrific.
"You'll need butterfly stitches which I have here, no hospital for you." He smiled.
    "Thanks." I grumbled.
He stuck the stitches over the cuts and then bandaged my hands.
"There you go, nice and healthy. Give it a few days and you should see improvement."
    "Thanks doc." I teased.
    He laughed.
"So um.. yeah sorry for the whole beach house thing this morning." He appologised. "I won't stay there anymore."
"If you tell me why you stay there, I might let you continue staying?" I offered, genuinly intrigued as to why he stayed there.
He rolled his eyes as he took off his shirt, leaving himself in his lifeguard shorts.
I stripped to my bikini and sat crosslegged on the same towel as him.
"Lets just say I have some difficulties at home." He chuckled sarcastically.
"Yeah, you and me both, Buddie." I moaned in the same tone.
"Yeah? Worse than your Mom's new boyfriend moving in with you, who is the biggest jerk ever, and who can't stand you?" He raised his eyebrow.
"Well my parents divorced a long time ago. Something happened with my dad, I haven't spoken to him in 6 years and then my Mom sent me here to live with him for the summer."
    He whistled lowly.
    "That's... awkward."
"You can say that again." I grumbled.
"Why'd she send you here?" He asked.
"She doesn't like my boyfriend. I guess I have changed since I've been with him, y'know like staying out past curfew, dropping graded, and I got my nose pierced the other day for him... But I'd do anything for him." I smiled, remembering his face.
"Well he must be a lucky guy to have a girl who would literally do anything for him." He said appreciatively.
"He's great.. Most of the time. I mean sure he sometimes hooks up with other girls, but people do that right?" I smiled, trying to carry on the conversation.
Tyler looked like his eyes popped out his sockets.
"He hooks up with other girls?! Why are you with him?" He choked.
"Because I love him. Boys do that stuff, so it's okay." I reasurred him.
"Did he tell you that?" He questioned.
    I nodded my head.
"Well he's a liar. And you can do so much better."

I walked along the pier, smiling as the atmosphere was electric.
Everything about this place just radiated fun.
All the stalls with the prizes, the little kids running round with their roll of tickets...
The smell of honey roasted peanuts and cotton candy filled my nose.
It was 10pm and the stars were out, making everything beautiful.
The screaming from people on rides was making me laugh.
I felt oddly peaceful, watching everything.
"Kendal!" Someone yelled my name, I turned, confused as I knew no-one here.
I spined round and felt the moronic grin stretch across my face at the sight of Tyler, working behind a stall.
I felt my legs walk forward of their own accord, I just seemed to gravitate towards him.
"Goodevening." He smiled, doing a bad English accent.
    "Terrible impression." I winked.
He faked hurt, making me laugh.
"So you having fun?" He grinned.
"Yeah, it hasn't changed at all!" I had to shout to be heard over the noise.
"You wanna have a go? I'll give you this one for free." He winked.
    "Sure." I laughed.
He handed me three darts and I had to try and pop balloons.
1 balloon popped - no prize.
2 balloons popped - small prize.
3 balloons popped - big prize.
I lined up my shot and threw the dart.
It missed completely, making Tyler roar with laughter.
"You want me to show you?" He teased.
I nodded, wanting to watch him miss.
He hopped over the counter and picked up a dart.
He aimed, and shot it perfectly.
    "How?!" I asked.
"You do it like this." He placed a dart in my hand, then took my hand in his.
He slipped his arm around my waist to support me and I couldn't help notice the tingling sensation in my stomach.
My breath caught in my throat as he rested his chin on my shoulder to speak into my ear.
"The darts," His warm breath tickled my ear and neck, "Are weighted, so aim higher like this," He guided my hand up high, "Pull back... and release."
    The balloon popped.
He let go of me immediately.
Had we just had a moment?
"Seeing as you're new here, I'll let you have a big prize anyway. So what will it be?" Tyler smirked.
"I'm not new, I'm just back for part 2." I joked, "And I'll take the tiger please."
"For you." He bowed, handing me the tiger.
"I'll name him Tigger." I beamed at my new toy.
    "Tigger?" Tyler chuckled.
"Yeah, like from Winnie The Pooh?"
"You really are different." He smiled genuinly.
Different, you can say that again.
"I like being controversial, it makes life interesting." I smiled, examining my tiger.
I looked up and saw Tyler looking at me... proudly? Which was weird considering I hardly knew him.
A little girl of about 6 then walked up to the stall and handed over her tickets.
"And what's your name?" Tyler leant down to her level, beaming.
"Rachel." She answered timidly, in her high pitched voice.
"Thats a pretty name, mine's Tyler. How about we stand you up on the counter and you can have a go?" He asked.
The little girl nodded eagerly, her pig tails swishing from side to side.
Typer picked her up and swung her round in circles, making her giggle and scream, before standing her on the coutner and halping her throw the darts so she popped all 3 balloons.
Rachel clapped her hands in triumph and Tyler gave her a high five.
"So Rachel, what prize do you want?" He grinned.
"The big monkey!" She jumped up and down.
He gave it to her, his eyes excited.
"I'm going to name it Tyler, just like you!" She yelled, happily.
    "You are?!" He faked shock.
She nodded her head eagerly before her mother came along smiling, and took her hand.
"Momma wants me to go to bed now but I'll be back tomorrow!" She giggled.
"It was nice to meet you Rachel!" He shouted.
    I stood there, shocked.
He was great with kids, and that was the sweetest thing I'd ever seen in my life.
    "What?" He asked, smirking.
"You just keep throwing surprises at me, don't you?" I smiled.

    The Beach House
    ~Chapter 5~
    The beach was crowded.
I guess it was only the beginning of summer and everyone still had that 'summer buzz' that would die down in a while, but it was still annoying how I could hardly find a space to sit.
Placing my towel down on one of the only empty spots, I stripped to my bikini, leaving on my shorts and sat down.
I pulled out my book and found the page I'd bookmarked, and started reading.
I don't know how long I was reading for, but as I turned a page, something caught my eye.
I looked up to see Tyler sitting on my towel, staring at me intently.
Not expecting it, I jumped back from the shock.
Breathing hard and laughing with relief, I layed down panting.
"T-tyler, you scared me." I laughed.
    "Sorry." He chuckled.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, still trying to catch my breath.
"Lifeguard, remember? One of my many amazing jobs." He joked.
I looked down to see he was indeed wearing red lifeguard swimming trunks.
"You're slacking aren't you? Shouldn't you be sitting up there, looking out?" I teased, nodding towards the white, tall chair that had been abandoned.
"I just wanted to come and see you." He smiled.
I smiled back, and sat on my knees.
"Woah, look at those tan lines. You should really take off your shorts or you're going to have some weird marks."
I felt sick, I couldn't take them off... everyone would see the scars...
"Oh, um I forgot my swimming bottoms." I quickly came up with an excuse.
"Oh, well then if I were you I'd consider staying in the shade for the rest of the day." Tyler winked.
"Thanks for the advice." I replied.
"So you gonna go for a swim?" He asked.
"Oh, I don't really like the sea much." I told him.
    "How come?"
"Just reasons." I replied, not wanting to go into to much detail with someone I heardly knew.
He changed the subject, clearly seeing I didn't want to talk about it.
"Well I get off my shift in 20 minutes, want to go get some dinner?" He offered.
"Dinner? But It's only 2 in the afternoon." I said, confused.
"No, it's 5:30, that must be a really good book." He chuckled.
    5:30?
I looked at my watch and he was right.
"Oh, well yeah sure, dinner sounds great." I smiled.
"Cool." He grinned, before running back to his chair and resuming postion.
I began to pack up my things, so we could go straight away when his shift ended.
"My my my, look who it is. Kendal, long time no see."
I looked up to see who it was, to see Samatha Jones standing infront of me.
    I felt my stomach drop.
I used to go to school with her when I lived here.
    I hadn't seen her in 6 years.
I never knew why, but it was always her job to make my life a living hell.
I looked down, and continued to pack away my things.
"So what brings you back to California? I doubt it's the surfing." She said maliciously.
"I can see you haven't changed." I mumbled under my breath.
"I also doubt it's because you wanted to see your dad, hmm?" She carried on.
I felt sick, all these memories I'd fought so hard to forget just came flooding back.
"What do you want?" I asked firmly.
"Oh nothing, just to come and say hello." She replied sarcastcally, "I also see you've taken interest in my Tyler. Word of advice, stay away."
"Your Tyler? That's funny, seeing as he's never mentioned you once." I countered, "And I already have a boyfriend."
She scoffed, "He must have very low standards."
"Well I would love to stay and chat, but I have places to go." I replied sarcastically.
"Where? The sea?" She asked sarcatically.
I decided to let it go and walk away, even though I was close to tears.
"Oh and Kandal? One last thing." I turned around to face her, "How are the scars now? Still as big as they were 6 years ago? Horrific accident, maybe they'll fade... someday." She snapped.
I spun on my heel and walked away, swiping at the silent tears.
