forever...
when I said best friends forever, this wasn't what I meant
chapter 6: paranormal activity
"Mila, calm down." Max said.
"But..." I scrunch my nose up and narrow my eyes.
"But nothing." Max says. He tosses my shoes to the side of the river and tosses his own after them. I pull off my dress and he pulls off his shorts. I hold his hand.
"One, two, three!"
We jump into the water, its cold and it moves fast pulling us along. We reach the shallow part of the river.
I remember that night in the woods, when Caitlyn and I waded through this part of the river to get home.
I freeze. The current has completely stopped. Nothing around us is moving and the sound of the flowing water is gone.
"What...?" Max asks. He climbs onto the shore, his boxers clinging to his thighs. I climb out after him.
The second we turn away, the river starts moving again.
"What's going on?" Max asks. He realizes that I don't know.
This is crazy.
"Let's go back." I urge.
"Not yet." Max says. He takes my hands and pulls me along the river. Whenever he stopped walking, the river stopped.
"No way." He said. This wasn't happening. This was a dream.
"Let's leave, Max." I say. Max nods and we run as fast as we can. I don't realize it until we've stopped moving, but I'm crying.
"Hey, Mila, it's okay." Max said. He pulls his shorts back on and tosses me my shoes.
I glance back at the river.
Everything's normal.
