I dip my animal crackers in hot chocolate. I bite popsicles. I'd rather have a bunch of grapes than anything. I like swimming just because I can go underwater and forget the world. I lay upside on my bed and rub my stomach. During fireworks, I close my eyes and just listen. I dance like a s/ut some days, and like a loser the next. I dip french fries in chocolate malts at Johnny Rockets. I act out scenarios to my reflection in the mirror. I climb on the jungle gym whenever I go to the park. I have deep conversations about life with myself. When I'm sad, I sleep with a teddy bear. I sleep with 5 blankets during the winter. I have to have at least 1 blanket over me to sleep. I flex my thigh and calf just to move. I sti strangely in my desk at school. If I'm in an excessively energized mood, I shake my a//s when I walk. I try and sound deep and intelligent when I'm just not that smart. I have little fantasies that I think are cute but are actually just strange. I'm addicted to vanilla frosting and pretzels. I purposely say the wrong answer in class so I don't seem overly smart. I dream of doing that rebel sh/t, but am too much of a goody goody to actually do it. I'd rather sit on the roof and read a book than anything else. I love the feeling you get after you run, but hate running. I say things a 2nd grader would find funny, and I die of laughter. I bite the inside of my mouth when I'm thinking about something. I won't look you in the eye if I'm thinking about something. I have major mood swings for no reason. I babble on about absolute nonsense, and nothing I say makes sense to anyone but me. But that's just me, take it or leave it.

i have faith in humanity.
horrible things happen. 9/11, school shootings, world wars, the holocaust, the bombings in Boston. and these horrible things are caused by evil people, or ignorant people, or stupid people, or people who are easily convinced and can't stand up for themselves. but i have faith in humanity. i have faith in humanity because an old man walked up to me when i was ten years old, twirling around in a long red dress, and he told me that i should dance like that even when i grow up because the sun shines out of my footsteps. i have faith in humanity because when i was twelve and my dad was getting sicker and sicker, my english teacher gave me hot chocolate when i showed up at school at seven o'clock, and a nurse in the hospital who i didn't even know kissed me on the cheek and told me that she didn't believe in god, but she was going to pray for us anyway. i have faith in humanity because when i was thirteen and my dad was dying, my friends threw me a surprise birthday party because i was too busy to have one. (my dad cried when he found out.) i have faith in humanity because when my dad got a lung transplant that saved his life, my social studies teacher offered me a place to stay as my whole family flew across the country to get him to the hospital, and when i visited the transplant unit, a boy my age touched my cheek and told me that he wished us all the best, really, and that he hoped i'd remember how to smile as my dad remembered how to breathe. i have faith in humanity because i am a human and i know that i'd rather feed the seagulls on the beach than hurt anyone. i have faith in humanity because my mum has raised me and my sister with the belief that you should never squash a bug when you can save it. i have faith in humanity because this is only some of the kindness i have seen in this world, in these people. kindness is real, love is real, hope is real, selflessness is real, gentleness is real.
i have faith in humanity, and you should, too.
