okay, so i just got back from the local park where i played basketball with my best friend, and i can't stop laughing. so basically, at this park there are always these really attractive older guys there, and my friend was like, "let's only speak in hebrew so we don't have to ever awkwardly interact with them." we're both antisocial (not really) and speak hebrew fluently (well, i do, anyways). so we were at the park, playing basketball and only speaking in hebrew while at the other basket these attractive older guys were also playing basketball and we kept missing because we sucked. but we looked pretty doing it. anyways, after a few minutes these two boys came over and they couldn't have been more than eleven (we're a bit older than that), and were talking only in english. they were trying to guess what language we were speaking, and didn't know that we spoke english REALLY well. like it was our first language well because, well, it is our first language. so these two kids kept guessing and were like, "russian? arabic? spanish? french? oh! i bet it's french. ya know, i LOVE french food and french toast and french bread!" and my friend and i were just laughing the entire time because these two kids were just being really dumb and it was so funny. also, we were a lot taller than them and better at basketball. anyways, after a while we decided to leave, and before we left one of the kids was like, "are you american?" and my friend said, "yeah." and then the other kid asked, "then why aren't you speaking in english?" and i just said, "because it's easier not to," which is true for me, because though english is my first language, hebrew is easier and i'm weird so i have an easier time thinking in hebrew, if that makes any amount of sense. so then we circled the block once and came back to the park, and the kids weren't there, but my friend still wanted to talk in hebrew, so we did. as we were walking around we heard, "are you SURE you're not american?" and we turned around and it was the two kids sitting on the steps in front of a house right by the park. my friend whispered to me, "tell them we're israeli!" so i did. "my friend wants me to tell you that we're actually israeli," i told the two kids. "i knew it!" one of them said to the other. and they my friend and i started to laugh and couldn't stop. it was SO funny. yeah. #beingbilingual
