Chapter 26
His mother called. She screamed, cursed, and blamed me for everything.
She blamed me for him running away. She blamed me for him loosing everything. She blamed me, for most importantly, his death.
And I couldn't agree more. I blamed myself for everything.
But I did not speak. She needed someone to blame. she needed someone to vent to.
I told her about the baby.
She cried and harder. And cursed me out even more. She told me our baby wouldn't have an appropriate life. And of course, I agreed.
Then she told me, as of this weekend, his funeral, she will never hear of, or see of me, or this baby ever again. She said there was no way in the world she would ever forgive me for the troubles I've caused.
Finally she hung up, giving my ear a break.
And I began to cry. And pray. I prayed my heart out for my baby, and my Wilson. I begged for my forgiviness of his death.
After about an hour, I was interrupted by a knock at my door. Not even bothering to wipe away my tears, I came to the door to find a woman about my age standing on the doormatt with a cake in hand.
"Oh, honey." She came through the door, sitting the cake on a nearby table, then engulfing me in a hug.
I wrapped my arms around the stranger. And I buried my tear stricken face into her long black hair. And I began to sob some more.
After, I have no idea how long the stranger pulled back and looked into my eyes with her emrald ones.
"My name is Marley." She spoke with a soft smile "Whats yours?"
My throat was so dry from all the sobbing, I barey was able to say "Jacqulene... My name is Jacqulene."
She nodded as her smile widened "Thats a nice name. May I come in?"
I nodded, moving slightly out of the way to allow her inside.
She picked up the cake and came farther inside my house.
"I know I'm kinda late for my welcoming, but I just hadn't found time to. But when I heard about your loss, and I'm very sorry about that by the way, I thought I'd better come." She spoke sweetly "Everybody needs a friend for something like this." She smiled very friendly.
And that was the day I found my best friend.
