The Many Woes of Love

Nina's POV
I sat on my porch, swinging my feet. It was mid-afternoon, and the sun was bright in the sky. I turned my face up to the sky and close my eyes, drinking in the warmth.
"Hi."
My eyes snap open at the unexpected voice. I look to the street, and my heart stops.
He's gorgeous. Shaggy brown hair, a natural smile that practically melts me, and his eyes- what color are they? It takes me a second to register them. Blue. Deep, deep blue.
"Umm?" he says.
I shake myself. He had been talking! Great, now I look like an idiot!
"I'm sorry, what?"
"Did you just move in here? I live next door, and I haven't seen you before, so, I just assumed..."
"Yes! I mean, yeah, I just moved here today. From California, my whole family, my dad's a scientist, and his work was moved here, so.... yeah." I smile weakly, my cheeks flushing. I always rambled on when I got nervous. Great. Again.
He smiled again (!) and glanced at his house.
"So, um, I have to get back. Babysitting my younger sister, Alice. See you around."
He turned to go, then stopped and turned around.
"Oh, I'm Aaron," he said.
"Nina. I'm Nina."
"Nice to meet you Nina."
Then he was gone.
I buried my face in my hands. FIrst day here and I had already made a fool of myself in front of a cute boy. Great. I know moving is a time for new beginnings, but if only it hadn't been this one. I guess the only thing to do was to shake it off, but his face seemed to be burned onto the insides of my eyelids, and I see him every time I blink. I blinked a lot.
"Nina! Come and unpack!" called my mom.
Right, boy-stalking time is over. I stand up and start up the stairs, my hand sliding over the smooth mahagony banister. We live in an old 3-story house. It was like an antique or something. So different from the apartment I had lived in in California. I had yet to determine whether it was a good different. Time would tell. And the neighbor.
