The Many Woes of
Love
2
Aaron's POV
I walk into my house and curse
myself. Good job. Now the new girl's afraid of me. I had just
been trying to be friendly, but I may have been a bit
over-friendly. Was I? I can't tell. All I can think of is
Nina... she was... I don't know. But every time I think of
her, my heart thumps in my chest. Her hair was a sparkling black,
and her eyes were a deep, dark brown, like chocolate.
"Aaron!" called my little sister Alice, running towards
me.
Alice was five. She had long blond hair, pink cheeks, and the
same blue eyes as me. I pick her up and spin her around.
"Hey Ali. How was-"
"Let's go play outside!"
She tugged on my hand and yanked me back out the way I came. Soon
she had me pushing her back and forth on the small swingset in
our yard. I looked for Nina, but she had dissapeared. Probably
running from her wierd neighbor. Right.
At the highest point in her swing, Ali jumped off, making a
graceful arc through the air, and landed neatly on her feet. I
swear, one day she was going to be an award-winning gymnast or
something like that.
"Ta-da!" She said proudly.
I smiled and clapped.
"Amazing! Fantastic! Wonderful! Encore! I'm-"
"Don't overdo it," she said with a giggle.
I raised an eyebrow. "Don't overdo it? Is this the girl
who insisted on standing up on a park bench and singing Twinkle
Twinkle Little Star at the top of her voice? You're telling
me not to overdo it?"
I poke her in the stomach, causing her to double over in
laughter.
"Stop it Aaron!" she said in between laughs. "And
besides, I'm an amazing singer. Better than you,
anyways."
"Oh really? Well then," I sat down, pulling her into my
lap. "We'll have to have a singing competition sometime.
But I have to warn you- I can sing the birds right out of their
branches."
"Oh yeah? Is that when they drop dead?" she said
playfully.
I laughed. "Are you sure you're still five? You act like
a ten year old or something."
"I don't know. You tell me."
I shook my head and laughed again.
