Where were you, all those times you promised you'd be there for me?
Those times when I broke down, when I needed you most?
What were you doing when I had my first panic and anxiety attacks?
How about when I called and asked if we could talk, and you "didn't have time"?
Where were you when I hit my highest high, or my lowest low?
What about when I was admitted into "counselling" to help my self-harm addiction?
Where do you think you were when I tried to kill myself for the first time?
Or when I succeeded in dying, and they revived me?
    Where were you?
What was so important that you couldn't visit me in the hospital?
Why weren't you there for me?
Why weren't you there when I broke several bones?
Was your hockey game more important than your injured son?
Every time I reached out, when I was weak, when I needed you, you weren't there.
    Where were you!?
    Here's the thing, though, Dad.
    I don't break down anymore.
I haven't had a panic or anxiety attack in two years.
I have people who make time for me, now.
I have people who support me no matter where I stand.
I successfully "graduated" from the rehab centre, and I haven't hurt myself in 8 months.
    I haven't attempted suicide in 3 years.
See, I'm glad they revived me.
My injuries - physical, mental, and emotional, have all healed.
    All without your help.
I don't need you. Not anymore.
Even though my mother left you when I was an infant,
    you walked out on me.
    And, truth be told,
    It's your loss, Dad.

    The Will To Live
    By Randi Orris
He starts to change suddenly, but subtly.
    A hair cut.
    Less smiling.
    Deeper conversations.
    Blood-shot eyes.
They have no idea whats coming.
Days go by, times marches on.
One day he doesn't show up to school.
He's at home, writing a note.
"Mom, I'm sorry. Its not your fault, you've done nothing wrong. I love you."
He takes a breath and continues.
"Dad, I don't want to hurt you, please take care of mom."
    A tear falls.
"Baby sister, I regret the fact that you will never remember me. I bet you'll grow up to become a beautiful young woman."
    A sob escapes his body.
"Jack, my closest friend, I'm so sorry. I didn't want to bother you with my feelings and thoughts, but then they overtook me. I'll miss you."
    He's losing it now.
"Amanda, my love, I'm so sorry. I'll wait for you on the other side. I'll love you forever."
He runs his fingers through his hair as all his feelings flow from his eyes.
He lays back on his bed, looks at the gun.
He clutches the note to his chest, closes his eyes.
    One. Last. Breath.
Barrel to his head, hands shaking.
He puts his finger on the trigger.
Suddenly, he puts the gun down.
    Tears the note to shreds.
    He decided then to live.
    To not give up.
Ten years from then he holds his newborn daughter for the first time.
Looks into his wife, Amanda's, eyes.
His father and best friend congratulate him.
His mother is overcome wiith joy.
    His sister becomes an aunt.
    Life continued.
    He Lived.

"When you have lost a family member or even a friend, always remember the deceased will always watch over us and even walk right beside us without being seen. They will help guide us through the rough times and when the time is right they will appear before your eyes just to say a friendly hello and goodbye before they disappear. But their presence will always be near."

To let go isn't to forget, not to think about, or ignore. It doesn't leave feelings of anger, jealousy, or regret. Letting go isn't about winning or losing. It's not about pride and it's not about how you appear, and it's not obsessing or dwelling on the past. Letting go isn't blocking memories or thinking sad thoughts, and doesn't leave emptiness, hurt, or sadness. It's not about giving in or giving up. Letting go isn't about loss and it's not about defeat. To let go is to cherish the memories, but to overcome and move on. It is having an openmind and confidence in the future. Letting go is learning, experiencing, and growing. To let go is to be thankful for the experiences that made you laugh, made you cry, and made you grow. It's about all that you have, all that you had, and all that you soon will gain. Letting go is having the courage to accept change and the strength to keep moving. Letting go is growing up.
