I think of my cousin’s circumcision, how she feels like a mermaid, not human from the waist down.
He says ‘I’d look after you, you know?’
I laugh, I ask for the last time ‘How old?’
He says ’34.’
He says ‘She was beautiful though and I know what you’re thinking but it’s not like that, I’m a man, I’m a man, I’m a man. No one could ever hurt me’.

it's not my poem, so I can't say for certain. But what I get from this is that the guy she is talking to is so obsesed with se.x because he can't let go of the way he was abused. He tells himself it's normal, but what happened to him isn't normal. And the woman talking is just strong in this se.x dominated world, she knows that se.x should be between two people who love each other, because else it hurts, I get that from the mother who's just taking bad men and the cousins circumcision. Hope this helped
