Chapter 37 Part 2

After Matt left, I thanked Ben for doing this for me. When I wrote down ‘learn how to speak a new language,’ I never thought of sign language, or speaking with my hands. It was so cool, and such a great idea. I couldn’t wait to learn more of it.
“So what do you want to do now?” Ben looked at me and blinked vigorously. I smirked at him and thought.
“Let’s just be lazy. Listen to music, lounge around, all that learning makes me tired.” I said as I pretended to sleep. Ben got up and plugged his iPod into the doc and Hey Juliet by LMT starting playing.
“Really Ben?” I laughed.
“Hey, next I’m playing Valerie by Amy Winehouse so don’t even with me right now.” He said simply, sitting down on the other end of the couch and allowing me to rest my legs in his lap.
“Fine, but then we’re playing Bennie and the Jets. I’ll be Bennie; you can be the Jets.” I proclaimed and he looked at me before laughing.
“You’re so stupid.” He said jokingly, shaking his head.
“Fine,” I sighed exaggeratedly, “I guess you can be Bennie…”
“That’s what I thought.” He smirked evilly at me and I crinkled my nose at him.
“HEY JULIET, I THINK YOU’RE FINE, YOU REALLY BLOW MY MIND! MAYBE, SOMEDAY, YOU AND ME CAN RUN AWAY! I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW, I WANNA BE YOUR ROMEO! HEY JULIET! HEY JULIET!” Ben belted out the chorus, singing to me. I blocked my ears with my hands and laughed.
“No! Stop singing!” I laughed even more at how silly he was.
He ignored my protests and kept going, getting up and dancing in front of me until I joined him.
I was twirling and laughing like crazy and I was getting dizzy. I knocked into something hard and looked up to see Ben had caught me, and he was laughing too.
I looked into his eyes and I stopped laughing. His normally greenish-grey eyes were darker and they were staring right back at me. His sandy hair was a little ruffled and he was still holding me by my elbows, keeping me steady. He moved one hand to the small of my back and my heartbeat quickened. I tried to keep my breathing steady but it wasn’t working that well.
I was confused. This was Ben. Why was I feeling like this when he was just looking at me. He was my best friend, and I shouldn’t be feeling this way. I told myself to stop, but I couldn’t.
I involuntarily leaned in and when my lips grazed his I immediately pulled back and cleared my throat.
“This shouldn’t happen…” I said, knowing that this wasn’t the first time I had done so. He nodded and we pulled apart. He looked at me again, longingly this time, like he wanted to say something, or he wanted me to say something. But neither of us said anything. But for the rest of the night, whenever he looked at me, that same feeling would come back, and that’s when it dawned on me.
