Chapter 9
The rest of the day passed
uneventfully and I made my way through all my classes, counting
down the minutes until soccer practice. Finally it was 2:00 and I
went to get changed. I put on my clothes, gasping a little at how
bad my ribs hurt. When I finished changing and doing my hair I
headed back outside where Trenton was waiting. He wrapped his arm
around me and we headed to the field.
“We have our first game next Tuesday. It
is against McKnight. They are pretty good, should be a good
game.” he said to me, as we headed toward the team.
“I’m always up for a
challenge” I said, winking at him.
“Do you want to hang out today after
practice?” he asked me.
“Sure!” I replied.
Practice started. We ran, we dribbled, we ran,
we took shots, we ran, we scrimmaged and then ran some more. It
was an intense practice, my side was killing me but I
didn’t want to seem weak. Nolan got kicked off the team so
I don’t have to worry about him anymore but there are only
about 5 guys who actually like me. The rest of them don’t
like having a girl on the team, I can tell. After practice the
coach called me over and gave me my new jersey! Number 1, the
number of a goal keeper! I was so happy, and excited for our
first game!
When we were walking to Trenton’s car
something happened. We were almost to his car when we saw Nolan
and Ashley making out! Great, now the two people who hated me
most were dating. That’s just awesome. Trenton put his hand
on the small of my back and murmured, “Just ignore them. I
won’t let them do anything to you. I promise.”
I looked at him and saw the sincerity in his
eyes. He was so sweet. I wrapped my arms around his neck and gave
him a hug. He gave me a quick hug and then we got in the car. We
pulled out of the school and headed towards town. He reached over
and grabbed my hand and intertwined our fingers. I squeezed his
hand.
“Where do you want to go?” I asked
him.
“Wanna go practice for the game next
week? There is a field near my house.” he replied.
“Sure.” I said, smiling at
him. “Let’s go!”
