Prologue
*A Hunger Games Fanfic*

I wake up on the cold, hard, metal bed as usual, the kind that are attached to the wall of a jail cell. That is this place, isn't it?
They lock me away and torcher me, force me to become one of them.
But it doesn't work and that is why I am here now, in this cold cell.
My body aches from last night's beating and I wash out my new wounds in the sink at the other side of my confinements.
When I finish I go to the door.
As always there is a tray on the ground with a loaf of bread and a thermos of water.
I hungrily eat the bread and it is hard for me to stop and save the other half of the bread for later.
I test the doornob and it is locked, as usual.
I don't mind though.
In this room I am safe, for now.

I guess I should tell you a little bit about myself, where I am, and how it got to be this way...
My name is Sierra Knight. The Hunger Games have been going on for 45 years now, but that is the least of my worries.
I grew up in District Six with my parents.
Then one night there was a knock on the door...
Our house went to chaos as peecekeepers stormed our house. They took us from our house. Mother said she and Dad had gotten into some trouble...
We were seperated and I haven't seen them since.
I was only eight.

Now I live in District Two.
The peacekeepers thought that I was still young enough to be trained to be a peacekeeper and serve the Capitol dutifully.
They stuck me in a class with older people, made to spar against them.
Of course I always lost, I was so much smaller.
I started to stand up to the peacekeepers, but that didn't last long.
Every time I stepped out of line they would beat me in any way possible.
I kept my ground though, the scars that cover my body show it.
Idon't talk any more, I find that it gets me into too much trouble sometimes.
I've been mute now for three years.
I've been at the Peacekeeper Training for six.
I am fourteen now.
I don't plan on staying much longer.
