Chapter 15
 

The rest of the party had been great. Garrett and I exchanged numbers and so did Emily and I. I was glad to have made new friends.
I woke up to the sound of a new text message. I looked at my phone and saw that I had one new message from Garrett. We had spent the rest of the night together, dancing and talking. He was really funny and seemed like a pretty good guy.
“Last night was fun. We should hang again sometime soon.” Although Garrett and I had a lot in common I just didn’t feel anything special when I was with him. I considered him to be a friend, nothing more.
“Ya, I’m glad we’re friends.” I replied trying to let him down gently. He didn’t respond but I don’t think he’ll be too upset. I had another new message, this one was from Emily.
“Mike and I really like each other. Thanks for getting me to talk to him.” I was so relieved that they had worked out.
“That’s great!” I was honestly happy for her, just because my new relationship didn’t work out didn’t mean that hers couldn’t. I decided to spend the day with Jake so I called his house. There was no answer. I walked over to see if he was there but he wasn’t. I tried texting him to ask where he was but he never answered, even though I could see on my iPhone that he had read the message. Maybe he was avoiding me.
Over the next week my fear that Jacob was mad at me grew. I hadn’t heard from him or seen him in 3 days. I decided to ask Emily to hang out. She said yes so we went to the mall for the day. We were in Delia’s flipping through the shirts and eating our frozen yogurt when I decided to asked Emily if she had heard from Jake since he seemed to be ignoring me. After I asked her she was quiet for a minute.
“Yeah… I talked to him.” The way she said it made me feel like she knew exactly what was wrong, but it also made me feel like whatever it was, I didn’t want to know. I readied myself and asked her.
“Why is he upset with me?” I knew that she could tell I was worried from the look on her face.
“He is really hurt. He told me that he kissed you and that he really likes you… as more than a friend. But… h-he.” She didn’t want to tell me, whatever it was, it was bad. “He thinks you slept with Garrett!” She blurted out.
“What!? I barely ever know him!” I was so angry, I hadn’t ever kissed Garrett. We were just friends.
“I know and I tried telling him that but he saw you with him at the party and so did Olivia. That girl’s crazy and she’s such a liar, she’ll do anything to get to Jacob.” I had to fix this, but how? Jake would never believe me now, and I can’t believe that he actually felt that way about me or that he would believe that I slept with a guy the same day I met him. I was so confused. I just needed to talk to him. Face to face and since he was avoiding me, that wouldn’t be too easy.
