Mary's
POV
All the color drains from my mother's face. "You
think you're pregnant?" She asks. Haley nods and
rubs her stomach, "I hope so. We've been trying to
get pregnant. I"m hoping for a little baby girl."
My mother pulls her napkin down. "Excuse me, I have to
go to the bathroom." Haley looks disappointed and I
almost feel sorry for her. The other relatives squirm
Haley. Everyone seems to be thrilled by the idea of a baby.
"You'll have to start picking put nursery
colors." One of my aunts says. The rest of the group
begins to argue over baby names. My eyes zone out and in of
the conversation. My grandmother takes a sip of her water.
She's the only one out of the group that doesn't
drink. "Marget is not a good name for a girl. She will
be teased for the rest of her life!" She says. My aunt
says, "My mother named me Marget!" "And you
were bullied at school because of it." My grandmother
snaps. My mother returns shortly with dessert. Her cherry
pie is the group favorite and the group is soon fighting
over who will get the last piece of pie. The door bell
rings. "Get the door. Mary." My mother says.
I'm so full I can barely move. I don't want to get
teh door. "Mary, get the door! Now!" My mother
says. I stumble to my feet and walk to the front door.
James is the last person I expect to see.
