Just Want You to Know

Chapter 1

            I sauntered into Steps of Hope Dance Studio, like I did every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. It was 9:00am on a rainy Saturday in June, which was okay I guess considering I was going to be here for 7 hours. Today was competition rehearsal for next weekend’s competition. I removed my white Old Navy flip flops and took my black jazz shoes out of my bag. After I tied them onto my feet, I walked into the room. I sat down on the floor and began stretching. I loved the outfit I had picked to wear today, a pink crop top, black spandex, tan tights, and a black sports bra, I felt so confident. This usually never happened.
            As a positioned myself into a right split my best friend Nicole Rields walked in. She was beautiful, big greenish blue eyes and perfect brown hair. She was dressed in her quirky style, a superman crop top, red short, and a black leotard. Her long brown hair was tired in a tight ballet bun. "Hey S/ut" Nicole said as she approached me "Morning beeyoch" I replied back. That was how we always addressed each other, just one thing that made our friendship more special.
            A couple minutes after Nicole walking in the room came Luke Madellin. He was the cutest guy at the dance studio and almost every girl at Steps of Hope has had a crush on him at some point, me included. I was lucky enough to be his duet partner for the last six years at all our competitions. This year was no exception. “Do you know when were practicing our duet?” Luke said his brown eyes sparked from the lights. “I know groups first but I have no idea after that” Luke smiled, I took that as a thank you, he then walked over to his girlfriend Brianna. No one in the studio really cared for Brianna she was one of those girls, who always had to be perfect and if she wasn’t you got blamed for it. She was also very clingy to Luke, and hated me for being partners with him, because the two of them didn’t have any chemistry dancing. We learned that the hard way at a competition in New Jersey last year.

            “Walk, turn, pose, stop Give 'em what you got Work those hips, side to side Get that angle right (Right).” Group rehearsals were in full swing. Christina Aguilera’s Glam was blasting through the studio. This was one of my favorite dances I’m getting to do this competition season. It’s sassy and full of attitude which was so me. But to soon the music ended and we got into our final poses. “That was amazing, but still needs a lot of cleaning, you know we will be doing that again later today, but now I want to see the two duets.” Ms. Terri our choreographer said. “The first duet practicing is Be Be Your Love, so Valerie and Luke, the rest of you go get a drink and start cleaning the group or your solos.” Brianna gave me the evil eye, like she knew how much the song meant to me.
            Luke was 17, two years older than me. While I was dancing with him I realized how much I liked him and not just for his looks. He had a very caring personality, he was always the first to help a younger student with or dance or help them with a new move. He was the perfect guy; he didn’t deserve Brianna and her crazy antics and her attitude. “Guys, that was amazing, just needs some more cleaning, but you two are really good at playing the part, like you both secretly like each other, but no one wants you together.” If only you knew. I wanted to say.
            Little did Valerie know Luke wanted to say that too.
