Old Days
Chapter 4
After class, I walk up to Danny to
ask him to return the pencil.
I actually gave him my only pencil, so I had to use pen
throughout the class and I hate using pens.
"Danny," I say tapping him on the shoulder as he makes
his way out of the classroom.
"Yeah?" He turns around and his face looks so
gorgeous. It looks like it belongs to an angel, or a
Hollister model.
"May I, uh, have my pencil back?" I ask. My voice is
unsteady and my hands are shaking like crazy.
"Oh, yeah, sure," he says handing me the pencil,
flashes a smile, and then exits the classroom.
I follow and then finally reach Kathy as she exits her
Science class with John's arm around her, "Hi!"
she says. Then she gives a puzzled look, "What's
wrong?"
I don't answer. I'm in such a daze after talking to
Danny. Really, everything we said to each other wasn't a
big deal, but I couldn't stop replaying it all in my
head.
"Sabrina?" Kathy says.
"Huh, what?" I ask.
"What's going on? You're not like yourself right
now," She says with a concerned look on her face.
"Nothing, I'm-" I start, but Kathy
interrupts.
"John, can you give Sabrina and me a moment alone?" She
says in a sweet voice. John nods, kisses her cheek and then makes
his way to his next class. Kathy pulls me into the
bathroom.
"We are going to be late for our next class!" I
say pulling my arm out of her grip.
"I don't care if we even go to second period right
now. What's going on, Sabrina?" She asks.
I don't answer feeling kind of guilty because I just know
Kathy wouldn't approve of Danny.
"You were talking to Danny right before-" The bell
signaling that second period starts rings. Kathy rolls
her eyes and then finishes her sentence,
"you walked out of class," she shakes her head in
disapproval.
"Kathy, you don't have to worry about me," I say
putting my hands on her shoulders.
"Sabrina," she says in a serious voice, "you know
that in the end you will get hurt."
I pull my hands off of her shoulders, "So, what? You're
saying I can't get and keep a boy like Danny? You're
saying just cause he's popular we can't date?" I say
raising my voice.
Her face falls, "No, Sabrina, you're not
understanding," She starts.
I interrupt, "No, Kathy, you're not understanding.
If I get lucky enough to go out with Danny,"
I can't believe I just said that. If I get lucky
enough? I think I defiantly have a crush on Danny Anderson.
I finish my sentence, "there is no way he would hurt
me. I think you're just jealous."
She lets out a sarcastic laugh, "Of what? You? And why
would I be jealous of you? I actually have a boyfriend," She
smirks.
I purse my lips trying to look cool as I think of a good
comeback. I roll my eyes and say, "Yeah, as if that
will last too much longer."
"Excuse me?" Kathy says with attitude.
"Well, I just heard some things," I say lying right
through my teeth.
I think I'm very convincing because she asks, "What
things?" She says this with concern.
"Just that he's been hanging out with Alexa," Alexa
is a popular girl who gets all the guys. I end on that note and
leave the bathroom.
I enter my classroom not worried by the fact that
I'm tardy. I hardly react when the teacher starts yelling at
me.
Danny is sitting next to me and turns to look at me. I look back,
give him a shy smile and then turn back to the front of the
classroom.
