Old Days
Chapter 8
The next day on the bus, Kathy gives me a little trouble.
Not only did she take the seat in the front of the bus that I was sitting at, well, that's not really a big deal, but it was annoying, and she also turned around just to give me dirty looks. It was unbelievable.
I tried to ignore it the best that I could, but it really aggravated me.
When I got off the bus, the first thing I saw was Kathy and John hugging. Of course, that's what Kathy wanted me to see. I ignored it and Kathy was getting a little angry.
When I walk into the building, I see familiar faces and then I see Danny. He's hanging out with a couple of his friends. They were also popular, good-looking, strong.
I walk past them and head towards my locker. It took me a couple times to unlock my lock because Danny was on my brain.
I finish getting everything I need for first period and head into the classroom. I take a seat and about 30 seconds later, Danny enters the room. He makes his way past empty and filled desks. He finally sits in the seat behind me.
I find the confidence to turn around and ask, "Are you happy about winning your baseball game?" I thought it was a stupid question, I mean, of course he's happy about winning.
The question takes him off guard, but he answers, "Uh, yeah. Two more wins and we'll be undefeated."
"That's exciting!" I try to say in an upbeat voice. It just sounds sarcastic, though.
Danny raises an eyebrow in confusion and I quickly say, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean for that to sound sarcastic," I bury my face into my hands.
"It's alright," He says and then smiles. I give him a smile back and he says, "Are we still on for dinner tonight?" My smile quickly turns in to a puzzled look. Since when did we plan a date? "I mean you, your mom, me and my mom.
"Oh yeah!" I say covering up my embarrassment with laughter.
"We're going to Sammy's, right? Man, I love that place, my mom used to take me all the time," Danny says.
"No way! Me too! Sammy's was, like, my all time favorite restaurant," I say almost bouncing out of my seat.
"Maybe you and I could go together sometime...alone," Danny says.
I just got so excited I'm about to cry. I feel like I'm going to just jump out of my seat and scream "Yes!" 40 million times, but I had enough self control not to do that. All I say is, "I'd like that," I was trying to act smooth, but I don't think it came out too well. "So, it's going to be, like, a date?" I ask hopeful.
"Yes," Danny says. I could tell he was just as excited as me.
"Can we do Friday at eight?" I ask.
"How about Saturday? I've got a baseball game," he hesitates, "and I would love it if you came to watch."
My mind is racing like crazy. Everything's happening so quickly. I feel as though this is a dream, but it's not! It's a dream come true.
The bell rings, but I don't turn around. Danny and I just keep smiling at each other.
"Sabrina, turn around this instant!" The teacher yells. I quickly turn around, but I feel a tap on my shoulder. I look over and see Danny slip me his number.
Could this day get any better?
