My heart was
racing; I ran out the front door onto our small country
style porch and slipped on a pair of pick flats. I
couldn’t wait any longer, I ran as fast as I could
to the back yard. My purple skirt flowed wildly in the
wind. There I stood before the woods. Was I nervous? I
couldn’t decide; all that I knew was that I was a
determined seven-year-old girl of a mission to find
wonderland. Without any second thought I wandered into
the woods. I wasn’t exactly sure of what I was
looking for, just anything out of the ordinary. I checked
under every big rock and behind every tree I walked past.
I listened to the birds and searched for rabbits, there
was nothing. Than I saw it… I white rabbit sitting
just at the edge of a tall tree not too far from where I
was. I creped slowly towards it, hiding behind other
trees so it didn’t see me. I was right there, only
a couple inches laid between this rabbit and me. There
was a rustle in the trees on the other side of the
rabbit, probably just the wind moving some leaves. The
rabbit quickly started running away from the noise.
This was the moment, my chance; I chased after the rabbit
going from tree to tree so I wouldn’t be seen. The
Rabbit scurried behind a tall tree and disappeared into a
hole right on the edge of the tree. I hurried over,
peering into the dark hole. ‘Well that’s
where the rabbit went’ I thought to myself. It was
just then I figured out, the rabbit hole was far too
small for me to fit into. I knelt on the ground and
peered into the rabbit hole, it was deep and dark and I
couldn’t see a thing. It couldn’t be a world,
there was no way in! And in any world there is always
some way in. I could hear a voice in the
distance towards my house.
“Maggie, come on in for
dinner.”
