Life As Alex - Chapter
3
In the morning, I
woke up a little disoriented a bit. But I remembered what
happened. I still can't believe it. Me? The most boring, ordinary
girl, switching lives with THE Allie Starr? No way. As I was
thinking, a stranger walked in.
"Hey!" She
squealed, running to hug me. She looked my- or, Allie's - age.
Very pretty, too!
"Um." I
stammered. "Hi."
"So, you can
finally leave now, and I'm taking you to Starbucks!"
"Listen,
um..."
"Oh no." She
shook me. "You DO remember me, Allie Starr?! Your best friend?
Megan?!"
I explained
everything and she backed away, in shock. "Where is
she?"
"Um. She's, uh,
dead."
"WHAT?" She
screamed.
"I'm sorry, but
that's what they said. I don't know anymore than you do." I shot
a small smile.
"So...wait, you
look just like her. And that's because YOUR brain is in HER
body?"
I sighed. "Yeah.
Look, I'm sorry your friend...passed. I didn't ask to be in her
body. But what do we do now? People are going to think she's,
like, a ghost."
She thought for a
minute. "We'll just say she was miraculously revived with those
stunner things." She shrugged.
"Not bad." I
smiled at her. "I hope we can be friends. You might hate me,
though."
"Why would I hate
you?" She looked genuinley shocked.
"Because I took
over your best friend."
She shook her
head. "It's not anyone's fault, Allie. Er-"
"Alex." I
said.
"Alex, it's
nobody's fault, okay? Maybe we'll be even better friends than me
and Allie were." She hugged me. "Now, I signed you out, so let's
get out of here, shall we?"
Taking her hand,
we walked out into the sun. "What now?" I asked.
"I'll take you to
my house. BTW, my dad is a movie director, so my house doesn't
shock you." She laughed.
"Okay."
Her house was,
like, a castle. It was HUGE. My jaw dropped as she gave me the
tour.
"Well, I'll call
Brady."
"Who's Brady?" I
wondered.
"My best guy
friend. You'll love him, don't worry. But, I have to warn you. He
always had a crush on Allie."
"He DOES now I'm
not her, right?"
"Um, we'll tell
him when he gets here." She looked apologetic.
"Okay, that's
fine."
When Brady was
here, Megan sat him down in a bean bag chair and we started to
talk. And may I say, he was hot? Okay. Anyway, after telling the
story, he just sat there.
"But Allie." He
said.
"She's Allie
now." Megan pointed to me.
I shook my head.
"No, I may LOOK like her, but I'm Alex."
