Swear I Mean It This Time- Chapter Fifteen
"So the good news is, he
shouldn't need the surgery." My heart filled with joy. I
grabbed Justin's hand and squeezed, waiting to hear more.
"After keep him in the hospital for a week, we have gotten his
breathing under control, and he's able to clear the mucus from
his lungs. We will send you home with a breathing machine though,
it will probably make all of us feel better if he wears it while
he's sleeping." I nodded, listening to him explain how to
work the little box he was about to give us. I tried to pay
attention, but my mind kept fogging. I was tired, and I just wanted
to take my baby home.
"Thank you so much, for all you have done for us," Justin
said, extending his hand.
"If you have any problems, please call me." We agreed,
and he walked away. I squealed, turning to hug Justin while jumping
up and down. He laughed, grinning from ear to ear.
"We get to go home!" I squealed, running towards Drew.
"Come here baby!" I said, picking him up. He was
sleeping, but I didn't care. I wanted to hold him now. I leaned
his head against my shoulder and bounced around. "We're
going ho-ome, we're going ho-ome," I chanted, kissing his
forehead. Justin sat there, laughing at me. I stopped, out of
breath, and switched him to the other shoulder. Somehow, he was
still sleeping. I looked up at Justin, sitting in that horrid
orange chair that sat in the room. He smiled, but shook his hair
out like he was thinking. "What's wrong?"
"Um..well..." he looked out the window. "Which home
is he exactly going to?" I stopped, stunned that I didn't
think of that before.
"Oh...yeah..." Justin and I had gotten really close again
over the past week. We were each other's shoulder to cry on. We
hadn't left the other's side since Drew was admitted to the
hospital. "He could stay with you if you want...I have work
tomorrow anyway. I'm going to be behind on my bills," I
sighed, this had become awkward.
"Why won't you let me help you will the bills?" He
said, standing up.
"You already pay child support. You don't need to support
me too." This was really awkward.
"I'm sorry, forget this whole conversation. Will you come
back to my house, and stay a few days? Just so we can figure all of
this out together."
I bit my lip, thinking. "Okay, I have to stop at my house
though and grab some stuff." He nodded, and helped me back up
Drew's things. Justin asked for extra guards when walking out
of the hospital, because people knew at this point. Everyone knew
about Drew and how he was sick. #PrayforDrew was a top trend on
Twitter for the past week. Putting a blanket over Drew, who was
still sleeping on my shoulder, Justin wrapped his arm around my
waist and we walked through the swarm of people. Kenny pushed them
back, along with the other security. The amount of people were
overwhelming, they packed in like sardines. I kept my head down,
and climbed into the Jeep they had waiting.
"Ugh," I shivered, buckling Drew in his seat. "I
forgot what it was like."
"It's okay, we will be out of here soon," he rubbed
my shoulder. "I'm glad you came home with me," he
smiled. We decided to wait for the crowds to die down before we
went to my apartment, so we went straight to the house. Walking
through the door brought up old memories, and I shivered again.
Justin went into his closet, assuming I was cold, and grabbed a
sweatshirt for me.
"I'm fine-" I started.
"No, take it." He nudged the sweatshirt forward. It
smelled like him, and I smiled putting it on. It was weird, being
in the house together again, but it was nice. We took turns feeding
Drew, and holding him, and also practiced putting the breathing
tube on. Feeling better, all Drew wanted to do was play. I finally
gave in, sitting him down on the floor. After only about twenty
minutes, he was snoozing away. "He parties hard," Justin
said, and I laughed. I put the breathing tube on Drew, and then sat
down next to Justin with a sigh.
"I'm so happy we're out of the hospital. It was giving
me the creeps. All those sick kids," I shook my head. "I
would fix all of them in a blink of an eye if I could."
"I feel the same," he nodded. "We should donate
money, since they took such good care of Drew."
"That would be awesome!" I said, smiling. "We can
donate it in his name." I smiled again. I slowly leaned over,
so we were shoulder to shoulder. He ever so slowly wrapped his arm
around me, and I picked the remote up, turning the TV on. The first
channel I came to was The Notebook, and all I could do was
laugh.
"Well, that's ironic," Justin said, laughing as well.
We watched for a while, the movie was almost over when we started,
and there were tears in my eyes in the ending. He wiped them away,
and I looked up into his eyes. There was like a force pulling us
together, I leaned forward, then he leaned forward, my eyes
fluttered closed, and then Drew cried. My eyes flung open, and I
pulled away quickly. Justin cleared his throat, shaking his hair
out and I got off the couch and picked Drew up.
"Good morning sunshine! How was your nap?" I cooed.
Ohmygosh guys it's been forever since I've written.
