One Heart Less
Chapter 5
His
POV
I couldn’t shake the feeling that I
had seen her before. Although I knew for sure we’ve never
met.
I racked my memory for any
hints as to how I would know her.
But came up with
nothing.
Emma’s
POV
I knew he was studying me. His arm was
pressed lightly against mine as we gazed at the view of New York
City stretched out before us.
I brushed some hair behind my
ear and tried to act like I didn’t notice.
“So, do you come out
here often?” He asked me.
“Only when I get bored
of the inside.” I shrugged.
He smiled at my answer and
nodded.
I couldn’t help but
smile back.
“So what’s your
story?” I asked him. Off to the left there was a break in
the darkness. Slowly light filled the horizon. The sun was
rising.
“What’s
your story?” He mouth curled up into a crooked
smile reminding me of my brother Dylan.
“Not fair, I asked you
first.” I said.
“Um…” He
scratched his head and squinted at the rising sun. “Car
accident.” He finally said and shrugged.
He sounded very unconvincing,
but he was a complete stranger to me. Why would he even agree to
tell me his name?
“I see.” I said,
playing along. “How bad was it?”
He bit his lower lip and for a
second I almost thought I saw him chuckle to himself. “Oh
it was terrible.”
“How’d it
happen?” I asked skeptically, and crossed my
arms.
“Well… you see, I
was going down this road…” He said and paused,
almost like he was stopping to think? “and this deer just
ran out in front of my car. I swerved, went off the road, and hit
a tree.”
“No offense but you
don’t look like you were just in a terrible car
accident. You look completely fine.”
“Medicine these days.
Does wonders.” He murmured quickly.
Then he clapped his hands
together and turned so he was facing me.
“Now, what’s your
story?”
“I um,” My mind
went blank. Should I tell him about my heart? Should I
not?
All of a sudden the doors of
the balcony were pulled open and I watched as my older brother
Dylan walked over to us. Dylan stared at the boy the entire
time.
If looks could kill…
well, let’s just say the boy I had just met would be
dead.
“Emma, what the hell are
you doing out here?” Dylan spoke to me but wouldn’t
take his eyes off him.
I rolled my eyes.
“Relax, I needed some air okay?”
“Well I think
you’ve gotten enough air. Come on, everyone’s been
looking for you.” Dylan grabbed my hand and started pulling
my toward the glass doors.
I tried to turn around and
mouth an apology to the boy but just then a terrible pain shot
through my chest. I clutched my heart and stumbled.
“Em? Emma! What’s
wrong?!” Dylan caught my before I hit the ground. Out of
the corner of my eye I saw the boy rush to my side.
“I-I feel like I
c-can’t breathe.” I gasped. The pain was
excruciating. I screamed a little and rolled over, desperate for
it to stop.
“What’s going on?
What’s wrong with her?” The boy exclaimed.
“She has a bad
heart.” Dylan murmured quickly.
Shock erupted on the
boy’s face and within a few seconds he was gone.
I tried to watch him as he
left but my vision blurred and then transformed to complete
darkness.
Fave Pretty Please!!
I would love some comments or feedback.
Remember I'm not revealing who "He" is so it's
a surprise!!!
Thanks!
