I’ve been a walking heartache
I’ve made a mess of me
The person that I’ve been lately
Ain’t who I wanna be

But you stay here right beside me
And watch as the storm blows through
And I need you

Cause God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
And for when I think I lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it’s true
God gave me you
Gave me you

There’s more here than what we’re seeing
A divine conspiracy
That you, an angel lovely
Could somehow fall for me
You’ll always be love’s great martyr
And I’ll be the flattered fool
And I need you

    Chapter Seven
    Parker's Point of View
Aunt Laura pulled in to the parking lot of the restaurant she had mentioned earlier. It was quaint to say the least. This really was a small town.
Inside we were seated in a booth and given our menus. After ordering our drinks and meals silence fell upon us again.
I played with the place setting and tried to look busy.
“So,” Laura took a sip of her lemon ice tea. I glanced up at her and saw she was twiddling her thumbs. This must be as awkward for her as it was for me. “I probably should mention you have school tomorrow.”
“Seriously?” I said, raising my eye brows. She was going to make me go to school the day after I arrived?
    “Seriously.” She nodded. “Sorry sweetie.”
“Whatever.” I sighed and propped myself up so I was sitting straighter.
“Where do you live?” I inquired, curious.
“Just down the road.” My aunt said. “It’s a beautiful house. I think you’ll really like it.”
“What’s it like here?” I asked disregarding her last comment.
“I like it. I haven’t gotten tired of it yet.” She said and smiled. “The people are wonderful.”
“Cool.” I said and went back to playing with my place mat.
“I’m sorry she made you leave.” She said sincerely, looking me right in the eye.
For some reason, that phrase made me think of my dad, and how my aunt refused to let him stay at her house when he was kicked out of mine. I felt anger begin to rise inside me.
“Is that what you told my dad?” I asked harshly. Laura looked taken aback by what I said. Her face hardened and she leaned in close.
When she spoke she spoke evenly but callous.
“Parker let’s make one thing clear.” She closed her eyes for a split second, as if she was collecting her thoughts. “You don’t know me, so until you take the time to do so, you have no right to judge me.”
“Fine.” I snapped and pushed away from the table. “Then the same goes for you.”
I walked away and didn’t look back, unaware she had her face buried in her palms.
Outside wind whipped my hair around my face. I looked to the right and saw a string of houses. That must be where she lived, where I would have to live. There was still a little light out. I looked at each one of the houses. They all looked the same.
Great. The third house on the strip had the garage open. Someone was working on a car I think. I made my way up to them, hoping to ask for directions.
I walked to the top of the driveway and stood just outside the garage. I looked around for the person I had seen just moments before but they were nowhere to be found.
“Hello?” I said hoping for a reply. I was about to take a step inside when a voice sounded from behind me.
“Who are you.” They said gruffly. I turned around quickly. In front of me stood a muscular boy covered in oil and grease that looked about my age. He was looking at me with a hard expression that scared me a little bit.
“I-I was just looking for s-someone.” I fumbled with my words.
“Well you came to the wrong place.” He mumbled and pushed past me. He laid on the ground and rolled himself under the car he was working on.
“Please. I um am looking for my Aunt’s house. Laura? Maybe you know her?” I asked hopefully. My breathing was uneven as I awaited for his response.
There was some rattling and clanking as he continued to work on the car. I sighed and turned away.
“Thanks for the help.” I whispered under my breath. Behind me I heard the sound of loose wheels on pavement. I glanced behind me to see him rolling out from underneath the car. He wiped his face with his sleeve.
“Two houses that way.” He jabbed his thumb in the direction he spoke of.
    “Thank you.” I said gratefully.
    “Yeah yeah.” He snapped.
I walked away for good this time, hoping everyone else in this town weren’t as rude as he appeared to be.
    Please fave!!!:)

    Chapter SixParker's Point of View
I jolted awake from the turbulence of the plane as we landed safely on the ground. I pulled out my headphones and sat up, still sleepy.
“Thank you for riding Delta Airlines, please enjoy your stayin Galena, Illinois.” The flight attendant announced. I grabbed my stuff and hurried off the plane.
In the air port there were people everywhere. It would have helped if I knew what my aunt looked like. I scanned the crowds for anyone that might resemble my father.
My gaze landed on a woman off to my left. She had a slim figure, long dark brown hair, and chestnut eyes. My dad’s eyes. I would know them anywhere.
Once she spotted me, her face lit up and her mouth formed a beautiful smile.
“Parker!” She yelled and waved to me. “Over here!”
I sighed. “Well here goes nothing.” I mumbled to myself and made my way over to where she was standing.
“Hey there.” She said and smiled again. “Gosh, you’ve grown since I last saw you!”
I forced a smile, but didn’t say anything. She must have taken my silence for the struggle of carrying all my luggage. Her eyes widened and she practically lunged toward me.
“Here, let me help you.” Before I could push her away she took my suitcase and back pack, relieving some of the weight.
“I’m Laura.” My aunt said. “Your mom did tell you about me right?”
    I nodded.
“Alright, well we should probably get going. We can talk more in the car.” She turned and lead the way out of the air port.
Once in the car she started the engine and began to drive down the high way.
“You hungry or something?” Laura asked, not taking her eyes off the road.
I shook my head. As if to contradict me, a few seconds later my stomach growled loudly and I heard a soft giggle escape my aunt’s lips.
“I know a good place near town, but it’s about a half hour away. That okay?” Laura glanced at me this time.
    I nodded again.
“I know you can speak.” She said, smirking. “When you were little you never shut up.” Laura laughed again.
Silence filled the car. The only noise was the soft sound of rain drops pelting the windshield.
“How old was I when you moved?” I asked finally breaking the silence. My curiosity had won me over. I continued to stare out the window though, and watched as the landscape changed from pavement and buildings to trees and old houses.
“For a second there I was beginning to think you were mute.”I could almost hear the smile in my aunt’s voice. I rolled my eyes and sighed, causing the window to fog up.
“Well I’m not.” I said, annoyed. “So how old was I?”
“You were six.” She said, her tone even.
“I don’t remember you.” I shook my head.
    “You were young.”
“Why’d you move away?” I asked.
“I needed a change of pace.” She said confidently.
“I don’t like change.” I mumbled, not thinking she had heard me, but she did.
“I hate to break it to you sweetheart, but change is life.”
    Please fave!!!:)

    Chapter FiveParker's Point of View
The drive home felt shorter than the drive to Holden Beachand the entire time I only had one person on my mind. Jack. The mysterious boywho I will probably never see again. He had kissed me last night, turning my world upside down.
My mom wasted no time at all. As soon as our car reached ourhouse in Madison, North Carolina she told me to go upstairs and pack my things.
The flight to Illinois was departing later that day and Iknew there was no way my mom would let me miss it.
We were on the road again about two hours later. http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=47717712 After going through security and the various check points my mom and I stood face to facebut not making eye contact. She was, after all forcing me to leave my home, myfriends, and my school to go live with someone I didn’t like.
“Tell your Aunt I wish her the best.” Mom mumbled, breakingthe silence. I rolled my eyes, and gave her a harsh stare.
“Don’t count on it.” I said.
“This is better for the both of us Parker.” She sighed.
“No I’m pretty sure this is better for you.” I saidconfidently.
“Would you stop the complaining, suck it up, and just dowhat you’re told?”
“Whatever you say mom.” I sighed and reached down to pick upmy carry on. “I’ll miss you.” I admitted, because underneath all the argumentsand the yelling I would rather be living here with a mom who doesn’t love methan with someone I despise.
“Yes well, you’d better go now, or your flight will leavewithout you.” She nodded toward the flight deck.
I shook my head with disgust at how emotionless she was. Shewas sending her only child away and she didn’t even care. I felt tearsthreatening to pour from my eyes.
It was a long shot, but after all these years I always hopedthat she loved me even though she never actually showed it. I guess I waswrong.
On that note I turned away from her and walked toward theflight attendant collecting the tickets. I handed her mine and before I stepped away, I took one lastlook behind me at my mom.
    But she was already gone.
I took my seat on the plane and gazed out the window. The seatnext to me stayed open so I propped up my legs and put in my headphones, blocking out the rest of the world.

    Chapter FourJack's Point of View
As we walked towards Parker’s car I got the chance to notice all the little things about her that I never saw before. Like how sheconstantly plays with a piece of her hair or how her dimples show when she smiles.
“Do you live around here?” I asked. I felt my stomach do twists and turns while we trudged in the sand. Parker made me feel uneasy, butit was in a good way. I don’t know how to explain it, she just made me want to know more about her. Everything she did pulled me in.
“No,” She shook her head. “I live in Madison.”
“How long are you staying here?” I asked hopefully. I would be leaving in about a week to go back to school.
“I leave tomorrow morning.” She sighed, and I swear I heard disappointment in her voice. I didn’t say anything back because I knew she would be able to tell I was disappointed too.
We stayed silent for the next few minutes. As we neared her car Parker turned towards me and forced a smile.
“Thanks for inviting me tonight.” She said and held out her hand. I stared at it for a moment then stretched out my arm.
“Thanks for coming.” I shook her hand but didn’t let go.Instead I pulled her in towards my chest and wrapped my arms around her. Parker tensed up at first, but then gave in and let herself melt into me. We eventually pulled away.
She ducked away from my view but I knew she was smiling. I opened her car door for her. She nodded gratefully and got in the car. I shut the door and leaned on the open window on the driver’s side.
    Parker’s Point Of View
I knew if I looked into his eyes I wouldn’t be able to drive away. He just made me feel so god damn happy.
I avoided his stare even though I knew he could see me blushing. I started the engine and took one last risky glance his way. His deep sea blue eyes were still twinkling in the dim light. Our faces were only a few inches apart.
He was still a stranger to me but I would have given anything for him to kiss me right then and there.
As if reading my mind Jack leaned forward and put his mouth close to my ear.
“It was nice to meet you Parker.” He whispered, “I hope we see each other again.”
Then he pulled a loose strand of hair away from my eyes and pressed his lips to mine.
There has never been a moment in time where I’ve felt so alive.

    Chapter ThreeParker's Point of View
Parties have never really been my thing… I’ve never really been invited to one. As I walked down the beach to where Jack had said the bonfire was, I played with my fingers and tried to act natural. I was nervous…I didn’t know any of these people, only Jack, and technically I didn’t really know him either. http://www.polyvore.com/parker/set?id=47640686 I guess I was in the right place because I could see the fire and it was huge. It was probably at least ten feet high. There werealready a lot of people gathering around it. I looked around for Jack and hoped he would see me. I probably looked like an idiot standing there all by myself.
Someone’s hands came around from behind me and covered my eyes. “Guess who.” They said in a weird voice making me laugh.
“Hm… could it be Jack?” I asked. The hands pulled away, allowing me to turn around. Jack stared back at me. The light from the fire reflected incredibly in his deep sea blue eyes.
“I’m glad you came.” He smiled. “Come on, I’m going to introduce you to some people.” He lead me through the crowd and came upon a small group of people standing together off to the side.
There were three girls and four boys. They all glanced at me then looked expectantly to Jack.
“Parker, these are my friends from NC: Shawn, Scott, Leah, Bridgett, Max, Sydney, and Wes.” Jack pointed to everyone as he said their names. “Guys, this is Parker.”
They were all really nice and said hello. Then I heard some shouting off to my left and realized someone had just brought over a keg. Fantastic.
All of Jack’s friends, including Jack, started heading immediately for it. Instead of following I took a seat on one of the logs andstared at the fire.
“Do you want anything to drink?” Jack asked as he came over and sat by me. He was holding a plastic red cup and sipped it slowly.
“Um no thanks, I don’t drink.” I said uncomfortably.
“Do you want anything else? Sprite? Coke?”
“Sprite would be good.” I smiled. He nodded and I watched him as he walked towards a cooler a little ways away from the fire.
My attention switched back to staring at the fire.
I almost jumped out of my skin when someone plopped down next to me.
“Hey there.” He swooned.I could smell beer on him and I felt the urge to throw up.
I was fully aware of how he was pressed against me. I pushed myself away and slid farther down the log.
“Where ya goin.” He smiled and scooted right up against me again. I rolled my eyes.
“Away from you.” I said under my breath and got up. I walked in the direction Jack went. I glanced behind me a few times to make sure I wasn’t being followed by that guy. Luckily he was nowhere in sight. I breathed a sigh a of relief and turned my attention back to walking forward.
I slammed right into someone and we both fell backward onto the sand. I yelped and caught myself with my hands before the rest of me could hit the ground.
“Parker?” They said, getting a good look at me. I recognized the voice to be Jack’s. I felt my face redden with embarrassment. He stood up and brushed sand off of his legs, bent down, and pulled me up in one swift movement.
“S-sorry…” I trailed off, my cheeks still felt like they were on fire.
“Where were you going?” He asked and I swore I heard a little disappointment in his voice.
“I was actually looking for you…” I admitted. “There was this guy that wouldn’t leave me alone.”
“Who?” Jack asked scanning the crowd.
“It doesn’t matter, I actually think I should be getting home anyways…” I trailed off. Parties really aren’t my thing, they never have been.
    “Are you sure?” He asked.
“Yeah.” I said sheepishly. “Thanks for letting me come though.” I smiled at him. His eyes twinkled and their color reminded me of the ocean, mysterious but beautiful.
“No problem.” He beamed. “Do you need a ride home?”
“No it’s alright, my car is parked a little ways down there.” I pointed in front of us and about two hundred yards away sat my silver mustang that I adored.
“I’ll walk you.” He said, not really giving me a chance tosay no.

    Chapter OneParker's Point of View
I rested my elbows on the board walk and zoned off out intothe distance. I hummed my favorite song and watched as surfers rode the waves.Mist showered over me and the wind whipped my hair around my face.
I turned away from it all and made my way to the sand. Islipped my shoes off easily and let the sand fill in between my toes. Therewere small sand dunes all around. You could see for miles down the coastlineand the view was amazing.
It was my last day of spring break in Holden Beach, NorthCarolina. I actually live in Madison, NC. But every damn year my mom makes mecome here so she can see some of her friends from high school. Tomorrow, however,we’d be parting ways. My mom is shippingme off to Galena, Illinois to finish off my junior year. She claimed I was becoming“too much to handle anymore”. She is completely put off because in actualityshe’s the naive one. Most of the time she spends the nights at her boyfriendMark’s house. My mom and my dad split up years ago. Dad died last summer in amotorcycle accident and ever since then I haven’t been myself. He was the onlyone who ever really understood me.
So no dad, basically no mom, and now I’m off to live with anaunt I’ve never even met before. Her name is Laura I think… During the fewtimes that my mom actually talked to me she told me Aunt Laura was dad’ssister, but they never got along. She said dad had asked to live with her aftermy parents got the divorce and she turned him down. So to make a long storyshort, I pretty much already hate the woman.
I sighed and sat down in the sand. I pulled my sunglassesoff and rested them on my head.
Behind me I heard someone running. Sand flew around theirfeet and as they ran past a gust of wind followed.
They stopped on the dime and looked around anxiously. Theylooked like a boy around my age. He was breathing heavily when he turned aroundand jogged over to me.
“Hey can you do me a favor?” He asked, his dark blue eyespiercing mine. He had golden brown hair and nice features. Overall, a prettygood looking guy. I was never too popular in school. I mean I had friends butwe weren’t the “barbies” of the grade, so since I wasn’t used to guys sprintingover to talk to me, I was a littleflustered.
“Um, sure?” I said, hoping my voice sounded normal.
“Great,” He grinned and flashed his white teeth. “I need youto tell those guys that I went that way.” He pointed towards thethin strip of coast line.
“Okay…” I replied. Just before I turned away I watched himas he ducked behind a sand dune. I looked away completely and saw off in thedistance three buff guys sprinting in my direction.
I am so sorry I haven't written in what seems like forever!:(My apologies! But tell me what you all think!Feedback would be highly appreciated:D

    Chapter OnePreface 3 Months Forward
“What are we supposed to do?” I asked him desperately. I couldn’t imagine being apart but even worse, I couldn’t imagine seeing him every day knowing he belongs to someone else. A much prettier and kinder someone else. Someone that is a better match for him. Someone that could make him happier than I can.
“I don’t know.” He sighed looking defeated. He put both hands on my shoulders. “I don’t want to lose you.” He whispered and pressed his forehead against mine.
His words brought tears to my eyes and I almost started crying right then and there.
“Same here.” I mumbled. My throat felt like it was closed shut, and there was silence for a few seconds.
“But I don’t want to lose her either.” He sighed in frustration.Everything froze. Time, my heart, my steady breathing all just stopped. I blinked and stared deeply into his sapphire eyes that I had a tendency to get lost in.
“Of course you don’t.” I whispered and started to pull away.
“Wait. You don’t understand. She’s my best friend, I can’t hurt her.” I knew on the inside he was fighting a losing war. In order tobe with me he had to hurt her, but in order to spare her feelings he would end up hurting me. It was a lose lose situation.
“So you’ll hurt me. Okay, that’s cool.” I said and started to back away.
“I don’t want to hurt either of you! Especially you…” He grabbed me by the hand and pulled me into his chest. “I love you.”
I stayed silent, my mind was reeling. He leaned his head back so he could look me in the eyes.
“Well say something.” He pleaded. I took his arms from around his waist and placed them at his sides.
“I’ll say it back when I know I’m the only one.” I said finally and walked away. New Story!! Wooo:)Tell me what you all think!Feedback would be highly appreciated:D

    One Heart Less Chapter 28
Emma’s POV Everything was different now. Luke was sleeping on the hospital bed as I sat in a chair far across the room. The surgery had been successful and all he needed to do now was to wake up. Suddenly my feelings for him have intensified. Yesterday he was the boy I loved, today he is the boy I couldn’t live without. Literally. I watched as his chest moved up and down and his eye lids twitched slightly. Slowly I stood up from my chair and walked over to the side of the bed. I knelt down and rested my elbows on the edge. I heard my name being whispered softly, and I realized Luke was calling me in his sleep. “Emma…” He said quietly. I placed my hand on his. To my surprise his fingers intertwined with mine. I looked up expectantly to his face and saw his deep blue eyes staring back at me. “Luke.” I breathed a sigh of relief and buried my face in the blankets near his chest. Even though everyone told me he was going to be okay, I still refused to believe it, until now. I cried a little, but they were tears of happiness, not sorrow. “Shh… it’s okay, it’s okay.” He said sweetly and stroked my hair. I sniffled quietly and picked my head up. “I know.” I forced a smile. “What happened?” He asked, still keeping his voice low. I glanced behind me to see if anyone was around. I hadn’t told the doctors what had happened, at least not yet. “You don’t remember?” “Not really… I remember being in a park with you but that’s it.” He said, looking defeated. “We were by your car when Danny, Matt, and Jon showed up.” I said. “Matt and Jon started to fight you. It was two against one and I knew you didn’t have a good chance. I tried to stop them but Danny wouldn’t let me go…” I cringed at the memory. “How did I end up here…?” He asked with an edge to his voice. “Well they beat you up pretty badly… Dylan got there just in time and scared them off. Something happened to you though. You fainted or passed out or something.” I shook my head, trying to get free of that night. “I see… are you okay?” Luke asked worriedly. “I’m better now that you’re awake.” I smiled and rested my head on his stomach. “Yeah me too.” He touched my face and his fingers lingered on my temples. Then his face fell slightly. “Em, I need to tell you something.” He said hesitiantly. “Yes?” I said even though I knew already what he was going to say. “When you had your heart surgery, they never told you who the donar was. I’m surprised you didn’t find that strange because they usually do those kinds of things… But they didn’t because your surgery was a special one.” He sighed, then locked eyes with me. “It’s me. I was born with two hearts, kind of odd, I know… And I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner. I just didn’t want you to like me for the wrong reasons and I didn’t want you to think I was—“ I leaned forward and pressed my lips against his, shutting him up. The kiss was gentle but it was amazing. It took my breath away. “I don’t care if you’re blue, tall, short, or one heart less.” I shook my head and placed my hand on his cheek. “Luke, I loved you before, and I love you now, no matter what.” The light in his eyes couldn’t get any brighter. He pressed his forhead against mine. “And I love you Emma. So much.” He breathed. “Always and forever.” Luke and I have a relationship that I don’t think anyone else in the world has. We understand each other and we listen to each other. He and I met by chance. There is such a thing as fate and I believe we all have our own destinies. He was born with a second heart so he could give it to me, and save my life. And I think that’s the greatest love of all. The kind of love that happens for a reason.
THE END:) Thanks So much for reading! Hope you enjoyed it:D I'll be starting a new story very soon!PS sorry for the formatting and such, witty isn't cooperating:p

    One Heart Less Chapter 27
    Emma’s POV
“I think you take a left up here.” I pointed to the next street the was coming up.
Shellie swerved in that direction and slowed to a stop in front of a house with an address that matched the one I was holding in my hand.
“So what’s the plan. Do we just knock?” I asked wondering how we should approach this.
“I doubt anyone is home. There isn’t a car in the driveway.” Shellie said nodding toward the bare pavement.
“Well so much for that.” I sighed and started to buckle my seat belt.
But she was already getting out of the car and creeping towards the porch.
    My eyes widened.
“What are you doing?!” I asked as I jumped out of the car.
“We didn’t come all the way down here for nothing!” She hissed over her shoulder and continued to tip toe up the sidewalk.
“No, no way.” I shook my head frantically.
“Come on Emma. Where’s that sense of adventure.” She replied and rolled her eyes.
“This is not an adventure, it’s called breaking the freaking law Shellie!”
“Fine then I’ll go by myself.” She shrugged.I glanced around to see if anyone was watching us.
My heart beat faster and faster as she made her way up to the door and tried the knob.
It turned easily at her touch.
“Cha-ching!” Shellie grinned back at me. “Soare you coming or not?”
    No! Absolutely not!
“Fine!” I sighed and jogged up the steps. I couldn’t believe we were doing this.
I stayed close behind her as we weaved through the downstairs of the house.
“What exactly are we looking for again?” I asked and realized my hands were shaking.
    “I don’t know. Anything I guess.”
“Well that sure narrows it down.” I snapped.
“Oh hush. We’re doing this for you remember.”Shell glanced my way and raised her eye brows.
“Okay. Yeah you’re right.” I said, but I still felt guilty about being in someone else’s house.
“Maybe we should split up. You know, so we could cover more ground?”
    “Um…”
“I’ll take the downstairs.” She said and already started in towards the kitchen.
My legs felt wobbly as I trudged upstairs, fearful that someone might be around any corner.
I was probably over reacting. There wasn’t even anyone home.
I pushed open the first door I saw. It revealed a bed room, most likely a boy’s, since its walls were painted lightblue and navy.
I took a few steps inside.
The room wasn’t messy but it wasn’t super clean either.
There were a few shirts and jeans aimlessly tossed on the bed.
My stomach tightened a little when I noticed a gray polo laying on the floor near the bed. I swore I’ve seen that shirt before, I just couldn’t think of the person who had been wearing it.
Another thing I noticed was there were pictures everywhere; along the walls, on the dressers. I studied a few of the wall photos.
One of them showed two little boys playing in one of those kiddy pools everyone has when they are kids.
My gaze shifted around the room, then fell on a picture on the night stand. It looked like a picture of a girl. I walked over and picked it up to have a closer look.
My mouth fell open as I examined the girl’s features, her dirty blonde curly hair and her olive skin. It was me. A picture of me.
    “Holy sh—”
“Emma?” I heard Shellie ask from somewhere behind me.
I plopped down onto the bed still clutching the frame.
“Look.” I said and handed it to her.
Her eyes widened slightly when she realized she was looking at a picture of me, then her lips curled up into a sly smile.
“I knew it.” She sat down next to me and placed the picture back on the night stand.
    “Knew what?” I asked curiously.
“It all makes sense.” She shook her head. “I can’t believe I never realized it before.”
    “Realized what?!”
“He’s the one. He’s the one who gave you his heart.” Shellie whispered." “Who?”I asked. But I think I already knew..
I remembered the conversation on the balcony of the hospital and how he had hesitated when I had asked why he was a patient. He had disappeared the second my heart failed me. In the park he talked about his brother, and there was a picture depicting the two of them in his room, the very room I was standing in. I recognized the gray shirt because he had been wearing it the last time I saw him. My heart always beat faster when I was near him, or even when I was thinking about him .
Luke was the one.His was the heart that saved me.

    One Heart Less Chapter 26
The surgery took longer than was expected.Luke was in the operating room for more than five hours. Every second felt like hours to me. When the surgery was over they put him in the intensive care unit, except no one was allowed to see him.
The days I spent sitting in the hospital waiting room turned into weeks. I missed school and I hardly ever saw my family.
I had one priority now and that was making sure he would wake up.
I leaned back in my chair and stared at the ceiling. No doubt my hair was knotty and my make up was probably smeared.
A pair of hands covered my eyes.
“Guess who.” They said in a sing song voice.I cracked a smile.
I turned around to see my best friend Shellie grinning back at me, although I could clearly see the worry in her eyes.
    “Hey Shell.” I said.
“Hey girl fraaand.” She exclaimed and plopped down in the chair next to me.
“What are you doing here?” I asked. My voice sounded so lifeless.
“You haven’t been to school in almost three weeks Em. Everyone at school thinks you’re either dead or at rehab.” Shellie looked at me, her eyes wide.
“Let them think whatever they want, I’m not going anywhere.” I waved her off and looked in the other direction.
“Please? Just come with me for a few hours?” She pleaded.
“Shellie I can’t! What if something important happens?”
“Then yours will be the first number I call.” A voice said off to my left. I twisted in my chair to see Dylan leaning against the counter.
“Listen I know you two think I need some fresh air or whatever but I’m serious. I can’t leave.” I slumped in mychair and crossed my arms defiantly. They would have to drag me out and even so, I would still put up a fight.
“It’s two against one here.” Shellie said matter of factly.
“I’ve been up against worse odds.” I shot a glare in her direction, thinking of how barely a month ago it was me versusthree other stronger and highly intoxicated guys. She cowered from my stare and looked to Dylan for back up.
“Emma.” He said. I heard him walk towards me.He knelt down in front of me and rested his elbows on my knees. “Luke is in good hands. He is a strong kid, have a little faith in him.”
I took a moment and thought about what he said.
Then I rolled my eyes and sighed.
“Fine! Let’s go!” I said and stood up.
“That’s the Emma we know and love.” Shellie looped her arm through mine and lead me out the door of the hospital.
“Promise me you’ll call!” I yelled behind my shoulder at Dylan.
“I promise!” He cracked a smile and waved us off.
We neared Shellie’s car and I thought I should ask where she was taking me.
“Hey, so where exactly are we going?” I squinted in the sun as it reflected off her silver Mercedes.
“I thought we’d do a little digging.” She handed me a piece of paper with an address on it. Then she winked at me and hopped in her car.

    One Heart Less Chapter 25
    Emma's POV
I peered out the tiny window of the door. Thenurse had sent me to an examining room to get looked at to make sure I wasn’tseverely injured.
It just so happens the room I was in wasdirectly across from the operating room. That was the room Luke was in. And Iwas so nervous I couldn’t stand still.
I paced the room, and kept my eyes on thefloor. Every once in a while I would notice someone rushing into the operatingroom and my heart would skip a beat.
“If you keep doing that, you’re going toskuff up my nice floors.” Someone said from the other doorway.
My eyes glanced up but my body didn’t stopwalking back and forth. I made eye contact with a slim woman dressed in a longwhite lab coat. She had a nice face with very feminine features. She wassmiling at me, though I had no idea why.
    “S-Sorry.” I muttered but didn’t stop.
“Emma, why don’t you take a seat.” She noddedto a cushioned table with a thin sheet of tissue paper covering the top.
I slowed down my pacing and obeyed. As I satthe paper made a crackling noise.
I craned my neck to try to see through thewindow.
“The surgery still has a few more hours.” Thedoctor said, but her back was facing me. I think she was writing something downon a clip board.
“A few more hours?” I said, surprised that itwould take so long.
“Yes mam.” She turned around and faced meonce again. “So there is no use worrying yourself to death.”
“Then what am I supposed to do until then?” Iasked, feeling defeated.
She looked at me intently and I knew she feltsorry for me.
“Is he your brother… or cousin maybe? If youdon’t mind me asking.”
“Neither.” I shook my head. The only thing Iwanted right now was to be in Luke’s arms again knowing that he is safe.
“Ah, I see.” The doctor nodded finallyunderstanding. She came over to me with a stethoscope and placed it near myheart. “Deep breath in…and out.”
I did as I was told.
“You know, I think you are a very brave youngwoman.” She smiled at me. I looked at her, a confused expression on my face. “Iheard about what happened. How you stood your own against those boys. That wasvery brave of you.”
“Thanks.” I mumbled. Though I didn’t think Iwas brave at all. Dylan was the brave one, he had chased them away. “I mustadmit I don’t agree with you what so ever.” I said.
“That’s humble of you.” She said simply.
“Dylan, my brother, he was the one that gotrid of them. He’s the hero. I just wish I could have done more.” I said fillingher in. Maybe once she heard the truth her opinion of me would change. I hopedit would. Dylan deserved the credit not me.
“Sometimes the hero isn’t always the fearlessone.” She raised an eye brow and backed out of the room.
Her words complicated and left me puzzled. But I guess that was her intent.
I pushed myself off of the table and leanedagainst the door that looked out into the hallway. I peered through the skinnywindow and watched as doctors hurried in and out. My stomach tightened every timethe door swung open and I caught a glimpse of someone laying on a gurney.
I made myself look away and ever so slowly Islid down the wall. When I hit the floor I pulled my knees up to my chest.
I imagined Luke’s sapphire blue eyes and howthey would bore into mine. I imagined his touch and the sparks he sent throughme.
    You love him.
My thoughts whispered, and I knew it wastrue.
Because I couldn’t possibly imagine a life formyself without him.

    One Heart Less Chapter 24
    Emma's POV
I glanced at Luke.He lay motionless on the grass, barely breathing. My body felt numb for some reason, like all the warmth had been drained away.
    Danny walked towards me.
I knew I had to get help for Luke, but I had no idea what to do or where to turn. They were closingin on me.
“Nowhere to run Emma.” Danny swooned. He came up close to my face. I could feel his breath and smell the alcohol.
“I need to get help.” I said evenly. My mouth was in a tight line. I tried not to show how terrified I was.
“You’re not going anywhere.” He leaned in and before I realized what was happening his lips came crashing down on mine. I tried to pull away but he was stronger than I was.
I managed to pull my face to the side but he continued to kiss me along my neck and collar bone.
I was pinned up against a tree and could hardly move.
“Get off of me!” I yelled, my eyes started to water. I used all my strength to pry his hands away.
“Not a chance in hell.” He grunted and tried to kiss me again.
Somewhere off in the distance I heard the sounds of someone running, then by some miracle Danny wasyanked off me and thrown to the ground.
I was breathing so heavily my throat burned. I sank to my knees and almost fell forward but who ever just saved me caught me under my arms and guided me so I could lean back against the tree.
Immediately my hand found Luke’s. It was still warm and even a little sweaty which was a good sign, even though right now he was so far away.
For the split second I saw my savior’s face and relief spread through me. My big brother Dylan glanced my way, his expression was concerned but full of compassion. He reached in his back pocket and tossed me his phone, probably to call for an ambulance because Luke was still unconscious.
I dialed the number with trembling fingers and told the woman where we were.
When I looked up again Danny had just punched Matt and the stomach and to my relief they startedbacking away. When they were gone Dylan jogged over to where I was crouched.
“Have I ever told you how much I love having you as a brother?” I said, but my voice was stillquiet, still scared.
“Are you okay? Did they hurt you?” Dylan knelt beside me and ignored my statement.
“I’m okay.” I nodded and sat back against the tree. There was a pain in my abdomen, but I wasn’t about to tell Dylan that.
“Are you sure?” He wasn’t buying it, I was never a good actor.
I nodded again. “Thanks for saving the day.” I tried to smile but nothing about this situation was amusing.
“That’s what I do, I am your big brother after all.” He grinned and messed up my hair. I rolled my eyes but couldn’t help but smile.

    One Heart Less Chapter 23
    Emma's POV
I clutched the back of Luke’s sports jacket and watched as Danny, Jon, and Matt walked toward us. I could tell just by the way they walked that they were drunk.
“Luke we should go…”I whispered but he just shook his head.
“I can’t drive right now Em. I shouldn’t have even driven us here. I’m sorry.”
“What do you mean?”Then I saw the look on his face. “Is everything—”
“Luke Dennison.”Danny uttered, getting our full attention. “That is your name isn’t it.”
Danny’s eyes were narrowed and there was something in his voice that told me this wasn’t just acoincidence we all were in the park. They came looking for us.
“Yeah. That’s my name.” Luke answered coolly. I admired how calm he was.
“And Emma, oh Emma.”He turned his head and smiled slyly at me. “You’ve changed since last year.”
I rolled my eyes and breathed out heavily.
“What are you talking about.” I said evenly, trying not to let the fear show in my voice.
“You’re not the defenseless little girl you used to be. When we went out I could get anything I wanted from you.”
This time his grin showed his pearly white teeth. It sent shivers down my spine.
“Well we broke up. End of story.” I muttered.
“No. Not end of story.” His voice grew louder and I knew he was getting angrier by the second. “Idon't like this new you, and I don't like sharing you.”
This time he shot Luke a look. Luke sighed heavily in annoyance.
“I don’t want to be with you Danny. I’ve moved on.” I said defiantly and linked hands with Luke whosqueezed mine reassuringly.
“Fine.” Danny shrugged. “Then we’ll just have to remove Luke here from the situation.”
Before I could realize what was happening Jon and Matt rushed straight at us. I screamed as they pulled Luke away from me. I tried to grab Matt but with one swift movement his arm came in contact with my abdomen sending me flying backward.
I hit the ground hard. I was on my feet in a few seconds but I still felt the pain from hisblow.
Matt and Jon had cornered Luke against a tree. I could see the expression on Luke’s face that he was still feeling the pain he had experienced only a few minutes ago. He attempted to defend himself and for a few seconds he looked okay but then hedoubled over and gasped for breath. Matt took the opportunity to punch him in his side.
“Stop! Matt stop it!”I sprinted towards them but someone caught me around the waist, preventing me from going any further.
“Oh no you don’t.” Danny whispered in my ear. I squirmed underneath his grasp.
“Let me go!” I screamed and did everything I could to get free. “HELP! SOMEONE PLEASE!!”
His rough hand clamped down on my mouth. Big mistake. I bit him as hard as I could.
He yelled in pain and his hold on me faltered for a split second. I pulled free and ran towards Luke. He was standing thank goodness but I knew he wouldn’t be able to keep fighting for long. It was two on one, and Luke was barely conscious.
I shoved the back of Jon. He immediately spun on me. The momentary lapse of his attention shifting towards me caused Matt to glance our way. That was all Luke needed. He pulled back his fist and punched him hard near his jaw. Matt fell backward, dazed.
Luke hurried over to me, but he was clutching his side.
“Emma, what the hell are you doing!? You need to get out of here.”” Luke looked at me intensely.
“I’m not leaving you!” I stared at him dumbfounded.
“Please, I’ll be fine.” He pleaded.
“Are you kidding me? You can barely walk!”
“If you don’t go now you’ll definitely get hurt.” He sighed and shook his head. “Please just go…” Then his face twistedfrom pain like it had earlier. My heart stopped as I watched him fall slowly to the ground.
“Luke!” I caught him by the shoulders as best I could but the weight was too heavy for me. I gently guided his body down on the grass. I put my ear to his chest and barely heard a heartbeat.
My eyes were wide with fear as I glanced towards Danny, Matt, and Jon. They smiled at me, likethey had just won a bet.

    One Heart Less Chapter 21
    Lucas’s POV
I drove carefully to the park me my dad and my brother usedto go to when I was little. This place held a lot of good memories. Except one.
Emma was still shaking slightly when I grasped her hand aswe walked along the pond.
“I used to come here a lot.” I said softly to break thesilence. Then I felt her hand slip out of mine and I realized she had stoppedwalking.
When she looked up at me her eyes were filled with worry andconfusion. She stared at me intently before opening her mouth to speak.
“Danny is a boxer, a wrestler, and he did karate when he waslittle.” She said. I cocked my head to the side.
“Where are you going with this?” I asked skeptically andtook a step toward her.
“He didn’t even leave a mark on you.” Emma furrowed herbrow.
“He was drunk Em, he wasn’t himself.” I said, but she justshook her head.
“I know Luke, but Danny is different. When he’s drunk it’slike he is better than before. Trust me… I’ve seen it.”
“What so you think I’m some super hero?” I chuckled but shenever cracked a smile.
“I’ve never seen anyone take him down like that.” She sighedthen narrowed her eyes. “Who are you Luke?”
Should I tell her? Should I tell her everything?
    Emma’s POV
He glanced away from my stare. I played with the ruffles onmy dress to keep myself busy while I waited. It almost looked like he wassearching for the right words.
He sighed heavily and looked me straight in the eye.
“Two years ago I was in this park with my little brother,Mark. He was only a year younger than me. We shouldn’t have been out as late aswe were. We were stupid teenagers who felt like getting into trouble.” Hehesitated then continued. “Well the trouble found us. A group of drunk guyscrossed our path as we were on our way home. They taunted us. I kept mycomposure but Mark, he was so independent and high spirited, he retaliated.”
Luke locked eyes with me when he spoke next. “One of theguys had a gun and he shot him, he shot Mark. I watched my brother die right infront of me. I held him in my arms as he took his last breath.”
“I’m so sorry.” I took his hand and squeezed reassuringly.
“It’s been tough, yeah. But anyway after that I realized howquickly someone could take a life, but I also realized how quickly you can saveone. So I changed, and I learned how to defend myself so if the situation evercame up again, I would be ready.”
“So that’s why you are like... superman’s brother.” I cracked asmile. He laughed half heartedly, but I couldtell he was still remembering that day.
“I did another thing that day.” He said and looked away frommy glance.
    “What?” I asked curiously.
“I promised myself I would save a life, since it was myfault my brother was killed.” He mumbled.
“Really?” I said, my lips curving into a smile. “That’s likeone of my goals on my bucket list! Well at least it would be if I had a bucketlist…” I trailed off.
“No,” He shook his head. “That’s not on my bucket list andit’s not one of my goals.”
I furrowed my brow, still not understanding.
“I’ve already done it.” He said and looked at me intently.

    One Heart Less
    Chapter 20
    Emma's POV
My mind was racing a million miles a minute.
I know what Danny is like when he is drunk. I’ve seen it… and been victimized by his harsh actions and words.
He starts rambling on about anything he’s ever had a problem with in his life. And tonight, I was probably at the top of his list.
“Emmaa, you are there babe?” Danny craned his neck and blatantly searched the crowd. I ducked behind a few girls who were watching Danny intently.
Luke was right behind me trying to help me get through the crowd.
“There you are.” Danny said and I heard footsteps coming up behind me. I turned around.
He stopped about ten feet away and draped his arm around some random girl. I rolled my eyes at her expression. She looked like she was about to have a heart attack because one of the most popular boys in school was hanging all over her.
“Danny stop it. You’re drunk. Just leave.” I said slowly so he would understand every word.
“Woah… I didn’t sign up for any attitude.” He smirked and put his mouth right up to the microphone.
I sighed heavily and glanced at Luke who had his fists clenched. He looked like he wanted to flat out kill Danny. I didn’t want him to get into a fight with anyone… not because of me.
“Come on Luke.” I touched his shoulder and tried to pull him away but he was nailed to the spot. His eyes were narrowed.
“Looks like tough boy here wants to stay.” Danny raised an eye brow.
“Danny shut up.” I spat and continued to try to get Luke’s attention.
Danny pulled his arm off the girl and started to walk toward me.
“I’ve had enough of your bull sh*t.” He said and came right up close to my face. I stood my ground, not moving a muscle.
“Does it look like I give a damn Danny?” I said matter of factly.
Danny narrowed his eyes and before I knew it he pulled his hand back and hit me. I heard gasps erupt all around us. I fell backwards from the impact while pain shot through the left side of my face.
“That’s for slapping me b*tch.” He smiled wickedly but the second he said it, a fist made contact with his nose. I heard the deafening crunch of bone and cartilage.
My mouth fell open as I watched Luke rearing up for a full fledged fight. My eyes widened with worry. I knew what Danny was capable of. He would humiliate Luke.
Danny swung a few times and Luke moved quickly out of the way to my surprise. Luke punched him twice in the stomach and once more in the face. I’ve never seen someone fight like that, ever.
It was like he was trained to do it or something.
Danny made the smart decision to back off. Blood was seeping from his nose and mouth. He looked like he had just gone through hell.
Luke turned back to me. I was still laying on the ground, too shocked and a little scared to move. He reached a hand down and pulled me to my feet.
Then I realized my hands were shaking, and so were his. I looked up and we locked eyes. I saw anger but I also saw sadness and grief which confused me.
I touched his cheek, my thumb lingering under his eye.
I searched for the right words but nothing would come out. I was speechless.
“Are you okay?” He asked, brushing a strand of loose hair away from my eyes.
“Y-yeah. I’m fine.” I said finally. Luke touched the spot that Danny hit me. I cringed a little and he bit his lip.
“Do you want to go?” He asked.
I nodded and we left the gym hand in hand.
    Faveeeee pleaseeee:)
I would LOVE any comments or feeback!!!
    Thanks!
