Beautiful
Chapter
27
Four years
later
“Okay everyone! Squish together!” my mom said,
motioning for my brother, dad, and I to move closer so she could
get a picture.
“Hold on, I have to move back a little. I want to capture
the U-Maryland logo,” she said, stepping back.
We stepped back a little.
Then I remembered something.
“Jacob! Come here precious!” I cooed, squatting and
opening my arms wide for my 3 but soon to be 4 year old boy.
He waddles over to me, his blue eyes wide and his light brown
hair glistening.
Just like his daddy.
I lifted him up and we all smiled.
My mom snapped the picture.
We came out of the restaurant, and said our goodbyes.
“I can’t believe it, your first day on your
own!” my mom hugged me.
“Yeah, and no more school for you, Maddio!” dad
said.
“Graduation!” Jacob screeched. I taught him that word
three days ago, and he wouldn’t stop saying it.
Everyone laughed.
I put Jacob in his baby seat, and got into the car.
“Bye honey! Have fun!” my mom said.
I waved out the window and drove off.
It was 6:00 when we got there, and Jacob had fallen asleep.
I took everything out of the car, and began to set up.
By 6:45, the tent and sleeping bags were all ready.
I softly removed Jacob from his car seat, and I made my way to
the cliff.
The same spot that I sat four years ago with Jacob.
The sun was beginning to set, so I lightly shook Jacob awake.
He yawned and smiled.
Gosh, that boy never stopped smiling.
“Hi baby,” I whispered. “Look.”
I pointed out on the horizon, and Jacob turned his gaze.
“Buuurrdds!” he said, pointing at the flock of birds
that was now flying into the sunset.
At that moment, I knew my beautiful Jacob was watching us. I
could feel it.
I missed him so much.
But I smiled, knowing that the love of my life was still there,
waiting for me to join him.
I hugged my baby closer.
“I love you, Jacob.”
Right now, it
didn’t matter which Jacob I meant.
But I loved him.
