Luce's POV
I pulled the car over into the
other lane, making sure no one was coming either way. I glided
safely around the ice patch.
Then I heard the
screeching of tires as a car came flying across the road from a
driveway I hadn’t noticed.
Blake's POV
Nothing was on freaking TV. I
just kept flicking through the channels, hardly paying
attention.
Christmas movies
were on basically every channel. I browsed through Hallmark,
Sports, TLC, abc family. Then I got to the local News and rolled
my eyes.
They always have
stupid interviews and dumb town memorials.
“In recent
news...” Oh here we go. “There has been a devastating
accident on Pike Ave, just South of Main Street.” Wait.
What? I turned the volume up and listened intently to what the
reporter was saying.
“The driver
has been fatally injured and rushed to the hospital. However, the
other driver has still not been found. Local authorities presume
this was a hit and run crash. We’ll keep everyone posted as
to the conditions of the teenager. Michael?” She said, and
the show transitioned back to Michael Hanesworth.
“Who was
it!” I nearly shouted at the TV.
I flew through the
other news channels.
“...and apparently
there was so much ice on the road, this young lady was forced to
drive around.” A girl. The driver was a girl.
“What about
the other driver Bill?” The news reporter on the left
asked.
“They
weren’t in the car when an emergency team arrived and the
wind shield wasn’t broken. It has been confirmed that this
was a hit and run crash.”
“That’s a terrible
shame, you know—” Then the news guy put his hand to
his ear and listened intently. His eye brows raised and his jaw
fell.
He looked directly
to the camera.
“The
teenager has been identified as Lucinda Prince.”
My heart fell and
I couldn’t believe what I had just heard.
***
My knuckles turned
white as I gripped the steering wheel.
She’ll
be okay.
She’ll
be okay.
By the time I
reached the hospital it was already dark outside. I jumped out of
my car not even bothering to slam the door shut.
I sprinted. As
fast as I could.
Because as much as
I didn’t want to admit it...
The girl I loved
was in there somewhere and at any moment I might lose
her.
Fave pretty please???
