Chapter 11
I started to hyperventilate. 
Troy couldn't come here, he was one of the few reasons why leaving Maryland was a good thing.
I couldn't bare to see his face again.
"Breathe." I told myself and shut my eyes.
"Go to your happy place." I whispered.
I laid my head on the soft grass and pictured learning to ride a horse.
I pictured a brown light brown one with thick, chocolate hair.
My breathing returned to normal and I opened my eyes.
I heard the bell ring from a distance and gathered my things and tried to use the map to find my way to calculus, but it was no use, I was lost. 
I sighed and sat on the cool floor and put my head in my hands and just cried.
I was lost and my psycho ex-boyfriend was coming to my house.
I tried to keep the sounds of my sniffling and sobs down, but there was no controlling it.
I saw a bathroom sign across the hall and quickly ran to it.
The reflection in the mirror was the girl I was used to looking at. The one with makeup smeared all over her face and tears streaming down her cheeks and dropping to the floor.
I loudly blew my nose into a paper towel that was as rough as sandpaper and sighed.
How was I supposed to fix this disaster called my face?
"Excuse me." A faint voice said.
Startled, I jumped into the air, my heart beating a mile a minute.
A small girl with glasses, a BIG DAN'S DINER shirt, and shorts slowly walked towards me.
"Need one?" She asked and pulled out a packet of tissues.
I sighed and nodded, taking one from her.
"Thanks." I said quietly and threw the used tissue in the garbage.
"I'm sorry I scared you." She said softly.
"No, I just didn't notice you there." I explained.
"It's okay." She started. "No one ever does." 
"Why wouldn't they?" I questioned.
"I'm nothing special. I'm the quiet smart girl who'll never get a date to save her life."
"Oh come on." I said and put a hand on her shoulder. "There's someone for everyone."
"Yeah, I used to believe that too." She sighed and blew her nose. "And then the guy I liked humiliated me in front of the entire school." 
"Do you mind if I asked what he did?" 
"No." She said softly. "He's a senior, a good looking one too. And well, he started to talk to me. He sat with me at lunch and laughed at my jokes about the periodic table. I felt happy, happier than I've ever felt." She smiled, but it quickly faded. "And then I went up to him after school to see if he wanted to maybe hang out with me. He laughed in my face and called me a loser, and that he had no idea who I was and that a blind guy wouldn't even go out with me." A single tear escaped her eye. 
"I think it was his girlfriend who put him up to it." She finished.
Her story was heart breaking. This shy girl was prettier than she thought she was.
Her dark hair hung at her shoulders, her eyes sparkled when she smiled, and her teeth were the whitest and straightest that I've seen. What was so bad about her?
"Listen to me." I started. "Don't believe any of that, you hear me? You are beautiful, I don't care what people say at this school." I smiled, hoping to make her feel better.
"Thanks, you're the first person to ever tell me that." She confessed.
"I won't be the last." I said truthfully.
"So what's your story? I mean most new girls don't run in here crying because they got lost."
"How did you know I got lost?" I asked.
"I saw you walking up and down the same hallway five times." She laughed.
"Well." I sighed. "My ex-boyfriend is coming to visit."
"It can't be that bad, can it?" She asked.
"Oh yeah, it really can." I fiddled with my hands and avoided eye contact. Maybe she wouldn't see the tears starting to form in my eyes.
"What did he do?" She whispered.
"If you promise not to say anything." I started and she nodded honestly. "He made me get an abortion." I choked the last word not wanting to hear it.
