Two days passed and I found out my guardian
angel yelled at me to press the button. What button? The
return button. That means, the old me is dead.
Eowyn
is gone forever from getting hit by a bus. How did I
not see that coming? Why was I so stupid? My guardian angel,
Luis, better make this worth it. Or he will pay. I
don’t care if he is an angel. If this doesn’t
work out, he’s so in trouble. I get discharged today to
the home of Samantha, the chestnut haired lady. Well, my
home. Turns out, she is my mother. Melanie’s
mother… or rather my new mother? This is all too
confusing.
Two hours later, I was making my way out the hospital.
Samantha had left to have a few more words with the doctor.
Right at that moment I saw Luis. I walked straight to him.
Shook his shoulder as hard as I could that he yelped.
“What have you done to me?” I said demanding a
sensible answer. “I brought you back to life!
Isn’t that what every dead person wants? Live forever.
Be someone else?” he said as he trembled. What a
weakling. God, you sent me a duck? Why couldn’t
you have sent me a snail? That is even more entertaining than
this thing.
“Hey, I heard that.” He said looking
offended. “What, so you can read minds too? God
forbid!” I spoke clearly frustrated. “Well, not
reall. Sort of. You were just thinking out
loud.” He said, chuckling. How dare he
laugh. I opened my mouth, ready to exit a fit of rage,
“You think this is funny? Do you-“ I got cut off
by my mum. She returned from the doctors and began to
question, “Is there a problem here?” Both me and
Luis looked at each other. Neither of us knew how to answer
that question. I was afraid of what I should say. I clearly
could not think of an excuse.
“No, ma’am, there is no problem at all. I am
Melanie’s friend. Luis. Nice to meet
you.” He said as he extended his hand to
shake hers. Surprised, she shook his hand. She looked at me
with widened eyes and said, “Wow Mel, I didn’t
know you could make decent friends. How did you guys
meet?” Oh, that’s simple. I was dead and gone
to heaven and this random guy just suggests me to push the
return button. And ka-boom: I am now your
daughter!
Luis grinned and answered, “We met a week before the
tragedy, we... um…-“ I cut him off, saying,
“We had a science project to do together.”
Samantha’s face had magically appeared to have an
extremely shocked face. “Melanie, what is going on? I
never knew you paid attention in school!” She
exclaimed. God, of all people you made me a bimbo.
“Nice talking to you Luis. But me and Samantha have to
go home now. You can come over later, if you’d like. Is
that okay, mum?” I spoke impatiently. The more I stood
here, the more awkward and dumb I felt. I know nothing about
this Melanie person. I just hope and pray this is
temporary.
