Fearless
*Chapter Fourteen*
Justin rubbed my back up and down smoothly. Ever since he met me, he knew that rubbing my back helps me calm down. I sat facing the two cops in front of me. They were very calm, so I tried to mimic them. It was easier with Justin here. The one cop walked forward.
“Lauren, we only have about two questions for now.” I nodded. “First we need to know, what did Matt do to you?” I gulped, my pulse started racing. I did not want to think, or talk, or do anything where it involved him. Justin rubbed my back harder. I took a deep breath. “I was at the beach. My phone went off, and, well basically he told me to come meet him.” I paused. The cops motioned their hands to continue. “I did. I was stupid. He told me to walk, I forget what he said, but I found him. Anyway, I sat down with him, and like five seconds later he started kissing me. I freaked and then tried to get up. He held my arm down and he slapped me. I tried to get away I really did, but then he took me somewhere. We were just walking. Well, he was literally dragging me. I couldn’t escape his hold on me. Next thing I know I wake up in a cold, dark place, and my head is throbbing and bleeding and he tells me I’m in his basement, and..” I quickened speed. “..he slaps me, and punches me and hurts me, and then I got a call from Justin..” I stopped, and looked behind me. Justin forehead was creased, and a wet line was visible on his cheek from a tear. I mouthed the words sorry, and he nodded. “..well he told me to answer it. Matt told me just what to say, and he said that if I didn’t he would kill me. After I told Justin I was at a friend’s house, I hung up. Then he texted me saying he loved me and then…M..Matt said that, I forget now, BUT HE WAS GONNA HURT HIM!” I screamed. “So I got up and I kicked him in the face and…” I told him the rest of the story, but I stopped when I got to the part where he wasn’t there. They nodded their head throughout the story, and one of them took notes. Then, he asked me about something I had been avoiding.
“I know you’re going through a tough time right now, but we need to know one more thing. What happened right before..Cole got shot?” I sniffled, but I wasn’t going to cry. Cole wouldn’t want me to cry. I would tell them what happened and find some kind of justice for Cole, not for me.
“I woke up, realizing I ran into a metal pole, and I noticed Matt wasn’t home. I was looking for my phone because he always hid it when he left. I found it and called Justin…and um Matt answered.” A tear ran down my face. “He said it was too late, and then..and then..I heard the gunshot. I fell to the ground, and that’s all I remember.
They kept nodding. One cop got up, and then the other one followed. “Thank you for your time, we don’t want to load you with questions right now, with you going through this and all.” They left the room and I felt like I was frozen. Justin lifted himself up onto the bed. He wrapped his muscular, warm arms around me. I laid my head on his shoulder and just started to cry. I sobbed, and sobbed. Finally I looked up. His shirt was all wet from my tears. I looked at him. “Sorry about your shirt.” He laughed that big laugh that lit up his green eyes. “God do I love you.” I smiled a big smile, a happy smile. He put both hands on each side of my head, and pulled me in, smashing his lips against mine. He let up on the force, and his soft lips fit perfectly around mine. The kiss was so gentle, just like him. It was flawless, truly amazing. It was fearless.
