Dead
or
Alive
Before I knew it, Cameron was back, wearing a fitted white t-shirt and low slung jeans. He tossed a worn looking grey sweatshirt at me.
"Here, you've been
in that for the past two days."
I slid it over my head and quickly removed my
shirt from under it. A skill I picked up from when my mom
tried to make me wear some clothes she picked out.
"Where are we?"
"Home sweet home." He says, handing
me a cup of coffee.
I took a sip and sighed happily.
"Mmm, two creams, half a sugar. How'd you
know I like it like this?"
"You like it? I make it like
this."
"Weird, so do I. Wait, so you actually
live here?"
"Thanks." He says sarcastically.
"Yeah, me and Sky."
"By yourselves?"
He just shrugs, so I let the subject drop.
"Crap, how long have I been
here??"
"Two days. Don't worry, I called your
mom."
"And she was ok with it?"
"Yeah, I told her we're not alone or
anything. She sounds cool."
I just scoffed at that, but he didn't say
anything. He came over to sit with me on the bed, and
looked at me for a second.
"Why'd you dye your hair?"
I shrugged. "I don't know, I felt
like it suited me more I guess. I just wanted to
kinda
recreate myself, and this seemed simple
enough."
He just nodded and took another sip of
coffee.
"Thanks, by the way." I said.
"You didn't have to take me here. Wait, how'd
we get home?"
"We walked."
"We did? I don't remember
that."
"Well, I did."
"You carried me the entire way
home?" I couldn't believe it.
He shrugged again. "What are friends
for?"
That word stuck with me. For the first time in
a long while, I finally had that.
A friend.
