Hidden Identity.
Chapter
eight.
I took a few minutes to process this all. A month ago I was your
normal teenage girl, now? I could read minds, and I was supposed to
save the world from these bad guys that could try to kill me.
Doesn’t sound like much fun to me. But what was I supposed to
do? Just say no and walk away? Wouldn’t a lot more people end
up hurt then? What if it was the people I loved getting hurt?
I couldn’t let that happen. I was going to have to try to get
rid of these guys whether I wanted to or
not.
“Okay… so where do I start?” A huge grin spread
across the guys face, who I now realized, I didn’t know the
name of.
“Come with me.” He headed off towards a door on the
opposite side of the room.
“So... what’s your name?” I had to know what to
call him, I couldn’t just keep calling him ‘that
guy’.
“Call me Jake.” He looked over at me and smiled,
he couldn’t have been much older than me.
“Okay, Jake, so how did you end up in this, whatever you call
it?” I honestly felt bad for the kid, he was the one
instructing me on what I had to do, and out of all the guys there
he looked the youngest.
“I was an orphan. Both my parents died when I was ten. These
guys took me in, their my bros. I’ve been with ‘em for
five years now.” So he was around my age; at the most, a year
older.
“So what’s your supernatural power thingy?” I
asked him, I figured he had to have one.
“I can teleport.” He said it evasively, making me feel
as if there was more too it, but he didn’t want to share. I
didn’t question him though, I figured if he wanted to tell me
that he would. “Ladies first.” He said holding
open the door and gesturing me inside. What a gentleman he
was.
The room was incredible, unlike anything I had ever seen before.
There were computers and other technology machines I had never seen
before all over the room.
“Whoa.” I let out in a long breath. I looked over to
Jake to see him snickering.
“What?” I snapped at him. It really irritated me when
people laughed at me when I hadn’t done anything, if I had
done something stupid, I could understand, but if I didn’t do
anything I didn’t want people laughing or snickering or
whatever you want to call it.
“I’m sorry, I just couldn’t help being amused by
your awe.” His eyes twinkled and I knew he was making fun of
me. I didn’t say anything, but playfully punched him in the
shoulder.
“Ow!” he said, rubbing it. Making a face to show me it
didn’t hurt and he was just playing along.
“Knock it off you two, we have to start working.” I big
guy pushed by in between us.
“That’s Rob.” Jake whispered to me loud enough
for me to hear, but not loud enough for Rob.
“These computers over here are researching ones, these
t.v.’s are monitors, these computers are tracking devices,
and all of this stuff,” he paused to turn to the other side
of the room, “ is the stuff that we take on our
missions.
