I need some serious help!
I've been best friends with this girl for 9 years
shes like a sister to me, but she is very shy
there is a graduation dance coming up for my school,
theres a theme, girls wears dresses, guys wear nice
shirts
its the real deal, me and my two other friends really want her to

just keep encouraging her but don't push it or tell her to come out of her shell. that's the absolute worst because I'm shy too and if someone tells me to "come out of my shell" it gets me very upset and frusturated. so just try and tell her the advantages of going and don't make it seem like it's her fault and don't mention to her her shyness

I know you're trying to help, which is great. However, I think you're way of going about it isn't that great. Forcing/pushing something upon someone only makes them not want to listen to you. What you should do is say something like "We can't force you to go, but it would be a lot of fun if you did." Also, things like "What's the worst that could happen if you did go. Wouldn't you hate hearing about it later, and regret not going?" But don't push things on her. Let her wonder what would happen if she didn't go. That might push her towards going...I hope she does go though (:
