I Won't Forget
Chapter 2
We were walking
to Adam’s car when he stopped at the bench by out
school’s sign and grabbed my hand.
"What happened?" I asked.
“Listen… I kinda gotta talk to
you about something important.” Adam ran his fingers
through his black hair. Uh-oh. This couldn’t be good. He
only ran his fingers through his hair like that when he was
upset.
“I’ll go wait in the car.”
Olivia said and practically ran away from us.
“What happened?” I asked again,
impatiently.
“I’m just gonna come right out and
say it. My dad got a huge job offer last night. From Palestine.
And I was gonna tell you earlier but I didn’t wanna stress
you out before your big speech and all. I’m sorry.”
He blurted.
“Oh my gosh! That’s… great!
I’m so happy for him!” I gushed. He slowly shook his
head and rolled his eyes.
“What?” I asked.
“Wait for it…,” he
said.
“What? Oh no. W- Wait. Did you
say… Palestine?!” I almost spit out the
words.
“Yes.” He said
softly.
“B- B- But you’d still stay here,
right?” I stuttered. He shrugged so I shot him a look. Then
he shook his head softly.
“But we just graduated! Now we’re
supposed to have the best summer of our lives. Then we’re
both going to Northwestern University on our insane
scholarships!” I whined.
“I know, I know,” Adam said softly
as he brushed the curls from my face with his hand,
“That’s why I told him not to take
it.
“WHAT?!” I screamed. This time I
think I did spit because he backed away.
“What? I was thinking of you… of
us.” he smiled.
“Oh no. No no
no no no,” I shook my head, “This isn’t about
me… or us, Adam. It's about your dad.” I knew I
was throwing a tantrum but this was serious. Adam stopped and
awkwardly smiled at the families passing us as they
left.
“I know, but… I don’t know,
Alisha. I’m sorry, I just don’t wanna go.” he
said sadly, “Maybe it was still too early to tell you. I
feel like I ruined your night. Sorry.”
“It’s fine. Whatever.” was
all I could say.
“Can we postpone this conversation to
tomorrow? Please?” he gave me his cute half smile that he
only gives me when he wants to cheer me up. I smiled
back.
“Okay.” I said.
“Okay then.” he said back. He
grabbed my hand and we walked to the car.
Once we got inside, I looked in the backseat.
Olivia was waiting for us.
“Hey guys, everything okay?” she
asked, “By the way, Adam, your rich, brown, doctor parents
really know how to give a graduation present, this car is
amazing! You’re gonna drive me everywhere this
summer!”
“Everything’s fine.” I
assured her.
“And thanks, Olivia, I know it’s
awesome, isn’t it?!” he gushed, referring to his new
black Lexus, which was beyond gorgeous.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now let’s move
it, brownie! We have a party to get to!” she yelled at
Adam. The three of us cracked up as he backed
out.
As we got closer to Liv’s house, all
three of us were singing loud and obnoxiously along with the
radio to Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite.” I was singing
really high to be funny so Adam looked over at me and laughed.
Then somehow he lost control of the wheel. The last thing I saw
was a bright, white light in the rearview mirror. The last thing
I felt was a loud crash into the rear of his new car. The last
thing I heard was a loud scream, which belonged to Olivia.
That’s all I remember about it, but that night changed my
life forever.
