My life means something

“Well crap” I muttered to myself.
Mikah just shook his head disapprovingly and Kyle snorted to stifle a laugh. I leaned back in my chair and propped my feet on the metal basket attached to the desk in front of me, which belonged to little Miss Mae Hawkins. I began bouncing my toes impatiently on the basket and watched Mae’s brown curls bounce ever so slightly, waiting for the class to end. I looked around at all the posters and flyers on the wall and read each one of them about a million times. The posters above the dry erase board had “Helpful Math Hints” and “Order of Operations” plastered on them. Multi-colored flyers by the front and back doors advertised student council elections and parents looking for students to watch their kids while they had “alone time”. But the poster on Mr. Lynne’s desk had to be the cheesiest of them all; “Caution: You are now in a positive attitude zone” with a huge honkin’ smiley face in the background. Man can you say cheddar cheese with a slice of Swiss? I almost burst out laughing every time I read it. After finally realizing no one was paying attention, Mr. Lynne began passing out the homework for tonight and I heard someone “psst” in my ear. I took the papers from Mae's smooth ring clad hand and when I passed them back to Kyle he slipped a thin piece of paper into my hand. When I unfolded it I wasn’t surprised with the message it withheld:
158 Silver Lane Loop
9:00 p.m.
Bring whatever hits the spot.
Of course, a party invitation.  I gave a quick thumbs-up to Kyle letting him know I’d be there and then slid the note to Mikah. I proceeded to write my name on my paper and the bell screeched, signaling the end of the hour. I finished writing my name and slid my paper into my notebook, then stacked my notebook on top of my hefty math book and stood up from my desk.
“So Mikah, what time am I picking you up?” I slid my books off my desk and walked out of the room into the mass of kids in the hallway, Kyle and Mikah flanking my left and right.
“I’m not going.” Mikah said when we stopped at his locker and his books dropped in with a THUD.
