    My life means something
I quickly got up and extended my hand to help her up.
Mikah tugged my sleeve and was pulling me with him. “Dude come on.”
I stumbled over my feet and flashed an apologetic smile to Marissa, then fell in step with Mikah. Our sneakers flopped against the tile as we walked through the desolate hallway.
“Dude if I were you… I’d be scared.”
    I half laughed. “Why?”
“Do you know who you just fell on?”
    “Umm, yeah.”
“You know she’ll twist the story around. Jane is bound to find out and,” Mikah drew in a breath, “I’d hate to be on the receiving end of that wrath.”
“I ain’t worried. All I gotta do is tell her I’m sorry, buy her something nice, give her a kiss she’ll never forget, and she’ll forgive me. Even though it didn’t happen the way Marissa is bound to tell it.”
We reached our class and there was a note scribbled in Coach’s handwriting stuck to the door:
5th hour please go to the library.
Mrs. Dumont has your assignment with her.
Mikah and Jamison, go to the field house.
sorry for the shortness. I'm having trouble figuring out what to do next. keep reading though(:

    My life means something
I stopped so fast Kyle ran smack dab into me, forcing me forward.
“Wait what?” Kyle and I said simultaneously.
“I said I’m not going.” Mikah just shrugged his shoulders and closed his locker.
“And why not?” Kyle put his hands on his backpack straps, pulling them forward a little.
“I just don’t want to. I want to spend time with Jaymi tonight and I have church in the morning.”
“Oh yeah Jaymi did say something about hanging out with you tonight. She likes never stops talking about you. But dude come on, church? You can skip one sunday.” I threw my books in my locker next to Mikah’s and leaned up against it.
    “Yeah I could… But I don’t want to.”
“Alright dude whatever. But you gonna be missin’ some good stuff!” Kyle started walking backwards to his next class and almost pummeled a freshman frantically looking around, taking everything in. You think that after 3 months of school some kids would get used to it. Apparently not.
“Let’s go man; we got class to get to.” Mikah pushed me in the direction of the stairs. Our next class, Fine Arts, was on the first floor. This class was a major snore. Mr. Snead droned on and on everyday about different types of art, and it was torture. His monotone voice did not help his cause either.
I set my butt on the stair railing and slid down the stairs, but when I got to the end of the railing I failed to jump over the knob on the end and the next thing I knew I was flying through the air, arms and legs wailing everywhere and Marissa Truvell’s books were in my line of sight. I caught myself before I hit the floor but not before knocking Marissa under over. She was laid up under me on her left side. She pushed up to where she was resting on her elbows and looked me in the eyes. Resisting the urge to look at her body and failing epically, my eyes ran down to her chest for a short second then back into her eyes. If someone were to see us right now; we would definitely be in some hot water.
“Well hello to you too, Jamison. Usually I only let guys come that close to me on special occasions but you I’ll pardon.” She smiled at me like she was undressing me in her mind.

    My life means something
“Well crap” I muttered to myself.
Mikah just shook his head disapprovingly and Kyle snorted to stifle a laugh. I leaned back in my chair and propped my feet on the metal basket attached to the desk in front of me, which belonged to little Miss Mae Hawkins. I began bouncing my toes impatiently on the basket and watched Mae’s brown curls bounce ever so slightly, waiting for the class to end. I looked around at all the posters and flyers on the wall and read each one of them about a million times. The posters above the dry erase board had “Helpful Math Hints” and “Order of Operations” plastered on them. Multi-colored flyers by the front and back doors advertised student council elections and parents looking for students to watch their kids while they had “alone time”. But the poster on Mr. Lynne’s desk had to be the cheesiest of them all; “Caution: You are now in a positive attitude zone” with a huge honkin’ smiley face in the background. Man can you say cheddar cheese with a slice of Swiss? I almost burst out laughing every time I read it. After finally realizing no one was paying attention, Mr. Lynne began passing out the homework for tonight and I heard someone “psst” in my ear. I took the papers from Mae's smooth ring clad hand and when I passed them back to Kyle he slipped a thin piece of paper into my hand. When I unfolded it I wasn’t surprised with the message it withheld:
    158 Silver Lane Loop
    9:00 p.m.
    Bring whatever hits the spot.
Of course, a party invitation. I gave a quick thumbs-up to Kyle letting him know I’d be there and then slid the note to Mikah. I proceeded to write my name on my paper and the bell screeched, signaling the end of the hour. I finished writing my name and slid my paper into my notebook, then stacked my notebook on top of my hefty math book and stood up from my desk.
“So Mikah, what time am I picking you up?” I slid my books off my desk and walked out of the room into the mass of kids in the hallway, Kyle and Mikah flanking my left and right.
“I’m not going.” Mikah said when we stopped at his locker and his books dropped in with a THUD.

    My life means something
“Jamison, stop. We’re in the middle of the hallway… with cameras.” Jane said pulling away from me and more toward her locker. I slipped my arms around her waist and held her tight against my body. “Well then how about tonight?” I brushed back her rustic auburn hair and gently kissed the back of her neck. I felt her body slack against mine and mentally congratulated myself for finding her weak spot. She closed her locker and leaned up against it. She gave me one of those flirty little smiles I loved and I put my hand beside her against the lockers and leaned my tanned forehead against her smooth fair one.
“You make a guy go crazy.” I told her as I leaned in for a quick feel of her lips with my own.
I heard her whisper “good” right before my lips landed on hers. Her smooth lips moved with mine like a silent lovers dance. I loved kissing Jane. It was so easy and natural. Suddenly Jane’s lips tore away from mine and her head whipped sideways. I turned my head to see what had interrupted us and I saw a small girl, probably a freshman, picking up her books that had spilled onto the hardwood hallway floor. I quickly jogged over and picked up the rest of the books for the poor girl. Her black hair was spilled over her face so I’m surprised she could see where her books were in the first place. As if she heard my thoughts, she then pulled a black ribbon out of the pocket of her pink jeans that looked like they were painted on her legs. Loosely pulling back her hair, she stood up and stray black tendrils of hair framed her young face. I smiled at her as I handed back her books and I caught a glimpse of scars that covered her now exposed forearm – cutters’ marks. She quickly pulled her jacket sleeve back down and accepted her books from me. With a small smile she scurried off up the stairs and I walked back over to Jane.
“How sweet.” She said, giving me a small kiss on the cheek and heading off to her class. I barely registered it as I pondered what had made that girl’s life so bad that she resulted to cutting herself. I can’t even fathom the fact of intentionally hurting myself that bad. I shook my head as if it would erase my thoughts and bounded down the stairs to my advanced math class.
I peeked into the back door to see if Mr. Lynne was writing on the board or not so I could sneak in unseen. I waited a couple of seconds until he went to do an example on the board and opened the door silently and stealthy slid into my seat between Mikah and Kyle Hanks, another one of my teammates. Opening my notebook to act like I had been there the whole time, I looked up at the board and realized I had no idea what Mr. Lynne was trying to teach. Math was like another language to me.
“What page?” I mouthed to Kyle.
    “123.” He mouthed back.
I opened up my book and saw that the problem on the board was one of the examples. I quickly skimmed over the pages and still didn’t comprehend what I was reading.
“Mr. Lyle. What is the answer to the problem on the board?” Mr. Lynne’s old voice cracked a little and faded as he finished his sentence.
“Uhmm,” I looked down at my book for a quick answer. “45.”
“I might be old but I’m still one step ahead of you. I’m glad you are able to read.” He turned his back to me and began to work out the problem.
    “Oh and welcome to class.”

    My life means something
    #2
    3 weeks earlier
The dull roar of Madden High's whole student body's cheers penetrated through the closed hallway doors as I nervously awaited to burst through the doors, through the paper sign, and join my teammates at half court. I don't know why i'm so nervous, i've done this a million times before but this particular monday pep rally has gotten me more pumped up than usually. this friday is our town's rivalry game between my high school, Madden High, and Jacobs High on the other side of the town. Last year in the rivalry game i threw five touchdown passes and took the title for the year. Actually we've held the title for the last three years, since i was a freshman.
"And now for the moment you all have been waiting for!!" Mr. Smead's pseudo sports announcer voice got louder as i pulled open one of the gym's big wooden doors. "Drum roll please."
The band's drum line give him his desired drum roll.
"The one and only, senior sensation, your starting quarterback, number seven, Jamison "Rocket arm" Lyles!!!!!"
As the gym erupted in scream and hollering, i ran out the door, busted through the paper sign reading "4 peat" and stood there with my raised arms spread over my head, basking in my fellow students cheers. After taking my glorious fifteen seconds of fame i lightly jogged over to my teammates and was greeted with a airborne chest bump from the town's leading wide receiver and my best friend, Mikah Jones. MY team split like the Red Sea as me and Mikah walked to stand at the center court. The gym fell deathly silent as we spun around back to back and I stopped face-to-face with my little brother Jared, the team's punter. I smiled in anticipation of what was about to go down.
"WHO'S GONNA WIN?!" me and Mikah yelled simultaneously at our team.
"WE'RE GONNA WIN!" they responded at the top of their lungs
    "WE'RE GONNA WIN?!"
    "OH YEAHH!"
    "WHAT TIME IS IT?!"
    "GAME TIME!!"
    "I SAID..WHAT TIME IS IT?!?!"
    "GAME TIMEEEE!!!!"
Lifting my fist in the air and watching everyone follow me i yelled
"GLORY ON THREE. GLORY ON THREE.
    1.....
    2.....
    3......"
"GLORY!!!" Everyone yelled, including the fans teachers and cheerleaders.
As everyone surrounded the team; Mikah, Jared, and I stepped out of the crowd and led the team out of the gym door and we stormed the hallway. I felt someone slide their hand into mine and smiled when i looked over to find my brunette bombshell girlfriend, Jane McDaniel, had replaced my brother as he headed to his chemistry class. She was in here black and blue bombers dance uniform that made her blue eyes pop. As our football team broke formation and went to our different classes, I stuck behind with Jane by her locker and waited for her to get her stuff. We never get in trouble, it's the perks of being the quarterback and the danceline captain.
"you look good in your uniform," i said; nuzzling my lips against her neck. "As always"

“Dude I don’t even know what I’m doing anymore.” I say as I’m sitting in a leather recliner and a fellow teammate, Kyle Hanks, is sitting next to on a matching dark brown leather couch. I’m not sure what time it is but it’s dark outside. I take a long drag from the joint he just passed me. I get the familiar weightless feeling that comes with the hit. It fades fast.
“Umm let’s see. We’re in my house. You have a joint in your right hand and a beer in your left. Marissa is sitting on yourrrrr lap and you’re sssssurrounded by your friendssss.” Kyle slurs, which clearly tells me that he’s had one too many tonight.
“That’s not what I’m talking about dude. I was just thinking wha—.” My reply was cut off with Marissa’s sultry voice whispering my ear.
“Stop thinking and just feel. Feel me.” She put her hands on my chest, feeling her way down to my upper thighs, and resting her hands on my front pockets. Her lips trailed my jaw line down to my neck and her tongue slid out of her mouth onto my neck. I passed the joint to James sitting next to me on the wall and pushed Marissa closer to me, my hand resting on her bare lower back… Wait. Bare?! I turn my head and finally register Marissa’s lingerie clad body grinding against me. She slides her soft lips over to mine and starts kissing me over and over again.
“Marissa stop.” I whisper as she tried to send her tongue beyond my lips.
“No baby just enjoy it.” She whispered back, trying again to push her tongue past my lips.
I muster up all the force I can in my half-high half-drunk state and push her away.
    “Stop.”
“JL what’s wrong with you tonight?” Kyle was now lying on the pool table, where a brunette in black lingerie was sliding her hands under his white shirt while playfully biting his neck. That made a soft moan escape Kyle’s lips.
“Nothin’ man. I just need some fresh air.” I pushed Marissa to the floor and, stepping over her body, stumbled to the kitchen and threw my can away. After a quick stop at the kitchen counter to catch my breath and to stop my spinning head, I pushed my way out of the front door and took a seat on the sidewalk. I dug around my pocket for my phone and got ready to speed dial the number of the only person who I know would bail me out of all this and bring me back to normal. I was about to hit call when reality hit me and I began to remember what had happened to me three weeks ago. The one person that could help me was no longer in my life. And for the first time in three weeks I allowed myself to cry.

I’m just a confused girl always searching for answers.
    Turning corners,
    finding dead ends,
never seeming to chose the right path.
    Stuck in this maze called life;
where the only way out is to die.

I take a deep breath and close my eyes.
The darkness of my eyelids seems to calm me.
I’ve been told to picture the last thing that brought me peace.
    I picture your smile,
The way you shake your head and laugh
When I do something cute and crazy.
    I picture your hand,
And the way your fingers ever so smoothly slid into mine.
And at last I can picture your essence,
    Your very being.
The way my mind goes out of wack
When I think of who you really are.
