The
Truth Behind a Smile #12
I was
speechless. Matt, i'm pretty sure, just asked me on a date. But as
friends. So a friend date.
"Yeah, i'd love to." Matt smiled.
"Okay, I'll pick you up at five and we'll go to dinner and a
movie."
"I'll make to sure to be ready." That sounded stupid.
Lame too. We both just stood there until the bell rang. I raced to
my locker. I was tardy. Hopefully the teacher wouldnt notice.
"Miss Connors, why would you just happen to be late getting to
class?"
"I, um, had to go to the bathroom." I prayed i looked
convincing.
"Hmm very interesting. Take a seat and listen."

I glanced at myself in the mirror one last time. I wasnt sure if i
looked too i dont know dressed up. I didnt have any best friend to
tell me i'm beautiful. Or if i need more eyeliner or something like
that. Oh well, here goes nothing, i thought. I walked down the
stairs.
"And where do you think you're going young lady?"
"I'm going out."
"With?"
"Friends." Meanwhile, the doorbell rang. I ran to answer
it. I wanted to quickly escape out the door so Matt couldnt
see my dad.
"Be back by 9!"
"Whatever!" I stepped outside.
"Macy, you um, look-"
"Let's just leave please." I knew that was rude but
i didnt care.
"Macy you get back here!" my dad screamed. "That is
no way for you to talk to your father!" I groaned. I got in
Matt's car and looked out the window. I heard his door slam shut
and he started backing out the driveway. I closed my eyes.
"Did i-"
"Matt, just drive." I had been so pumped for this but i
knew the questions were yet to come. And now, i wished i had said
no to Matt. I felt the car stop.
"What's going on? I was psyched for this but if this is how
you're gonna act, I'm taking you right back to your house." I
was on the verge of crying. This day kept getting worse and worse.
And then the tears came. Pouring down my face. The best friends
date just became the most humiliating
one.
