part #120

I cleaned the house a little bit while pat played with maddie and jake. The house wasn’t too messy, but I dusted everything, and stuff like that. We were just going to order pizza, considering we weren’t very good cooks. Blake and chris, the sweet tooth, was bringing dessert and Alyssa was bringing a really good dip that she makes. Everyone else didn’t have to bring anything, and I had ray pick up a separate cake for pat. I’m going to give him his tickets tonight, considering we were leaving in a few days. A few chores turned into hours, and before I knew it, it was ready for their naps. Pat put maddie down, and I got jake.
“alright sweetie, after your nap, you have to get a bath because we have people coming over.”
“okay mommy.” He said, and he smiled. Pat had really worn them out, so I think I would be able to straighten my hair for tonight, if they slept long enough. I walked out, and pat was laying on our bed.
“maddie okay?” I asked.
“yep, perfect.” He said, and smiled at me, with that look that he couldn’t believe his eyes. That personally bothered me, but I’d learned to get over it. He was watching sports center, and he patted the space next to him. I walked around, and laid down in his arms. He gripped me tighter, and I just stared at the TV absentmindedly. He was obviously checking out his competition, and the only time I paid attention was when they put him on. There was one clip that was on all the time. It was the only day I decided to go to his preseason training, and it was right after I had jake. I was blending in, watching, and then when he came out of the locker room, I reached up and kissed him. Of course the paparazzi were all over that, so they played it a lot. After toying with my hair for a while, he sighed, and said.
“I miss this.”
“miss what?” I asked, with my head on his chest.
“just the two of us.” He sighed again.
“I will admit, alone time is nice.” He stared at me, as if he was internally debating on whether to tell me something or not.
“what?” I asked.
“I have to tell you something, but promise you won’t get mad?”
“do I ever get mad?”
“noo..” he trailed off.
“shoot.” I said.
“did, you ever think, you know. That we were too young to have kids? I mean as soon as I met you dev, I knew you were the one, but do you think we should’ve enjoyed the married couple life more, than jumping right into kids. I mean you were 20 when you had jake.”
“I’ve never regretted having jake.” I said, through gritted teeth. My eyes were just starting to tear, because that stung a little.
“no, don’t get me wrong. I wouldn’t trade him for the world. Now that we have them, they are my world, but they have to share it with you.” He said, stroking my back. “I wouldn’t have minded just having you as my world for a little bit longer.”
“well I’m sorry pat, that I didn’t go as planned. I’ve never regretted having jake, but don’t you realize what I had to go through? I mean pat I’m 24 and I went through what people twice my age go through. I’m pretty sure you have an idea of how birth went, and here you say we should’ve waited longer. I don’t want to sound ridiculous, but what were your intentions of marrying me when we were 20 anyways. If you didn’t want kids that young, then we could’ve waited.” I said, tears silently running down my face, I started to get up, and stand towards the bathroom door, I wanted to shower, to escape from it all, but I knew he would have one more thing to say.
“I love you devon, and I couldn’t stand to not call you mine any longer. It’s just the order of how things should go, so I wanted to marry you first.” He said.
“but you could’ve told me you didn’t want kids.” I objected. “I would’ve been more careful.”
“I don’t mind having kids, dev. I didn’t object to it.” He tried to explain himself.
“alright pat, I don’t know what you’re saying, and neither do you. So get it together, and let me know when you do.” I stormed into the bathroom, and slammed the door. I stripped all my clothes off and got into the steaming hot shower, and tried not to think. When I don’t think, I usually sing songs to myself. I was in the middle of crazier, by Taylor swift. The song pat and I danced to at our wedding, when I heard a knock on the door.
“what?” I called over the glass shower door. The bathroom door cracked open.
“can I come in?” I didn’t answer, and after about 3 seconds, he walked in. I just stood there in the shower, listening to what he was doing, and after some rustling of clothes, I heard the glass door open, and close. I glanced at him, and turned back around.
“dev..” he began.
“what?” I asked.
“you understood perfectly what I meant, and you broke your promise.”
“no pat, I was still a little fuzzy about what you said, and what promise?” I asked bitterly.
“you said you wouldn’t get mad. I was just putting it out there. I would never change out life; it’s perfect how it is now.” He pulled me closer to him.
“you’re right. I did break my promise.” He smiled.
“I’m sorry.” I said, and reached up to kiss him. “I just get upset, and stressed out, and I think we could have waited a little bit longer until we had kids, but I don’t mind it, because I have you with me.” I said, and kissed him.
“that’s exactly my point.”
“I love you.” I said, and reached up to kiss him again.
“I love you too. And don’t you ever forget it.” He said, and leaned down to kiss me again.
