(Emily's POV) chapter 12
I walked home crying, Jake following farther behind me. He tried to talk to me but I wouldnt answer. I went into the house and ran to my room, slamming my door shut. Jake knocked and tried to come in but i ignored him and blasted my music. A girl named Jen I met from the party texted me. "Hey girl! Whats up?" I sniffled and replied. We talked for awhile and she invited me to come to this concert on the beach. It was on my birthday. I wasnt in the mood to go, but it would be my birthday and Jake was not going to ruin that for me.
I told her I would go and we video chatted for awhile. I told her about Jake. "What a douche!" She explaimed, "I'm so sorryyy girl. The concert will make you feel better." She smiled and danced in her chair. We talked for an hour and hung up the chat. She made me feel alittle better. I wanted to cry again, but i needed to be strong so Jake would understand that i dont need him.
......
Two days past and it was my birthdayy!! I've barely spoken to Jake since the beach. I got dressed slowly and walked off to the beach without telling Jake. I dont care where he is anyway.
I met Jen at the beach, people were just setting up the stage and cleaning the beach. We tanned for alittle while and went swimming. We met 2 guys named Alec and Bret. Bret was reaallly cute. He had short brown hair and brown eyes. He seemed to like me. Alec and Jen were hitting it off too, splashing each other in the water. I wasnt exactly in the mood to flirt though. I looked up at the beach and saw 3 guys walk up from behind the dunes. I immeidiatly knew it was Jake, Mitch and Jack.
I saw Jake look at me for a moment and look away. Mitch looked at us, and said something to Jake pointing at us, stupid..
"Who's that?" Bret asked me, looking up at them. "Uhhmm.. I dont know..just some kids that i saw at a party i think." I lied, wading around in the water. "Natalie's party? yeah i think i saw you, you were reallly cute.." he smiled and winked at me, just like Jake did. I smiled alittle and felt guilty. Maybe i was being mean to Jake, maybe Natalie did push herself on him..bitchh.
About 45 minutes later some bands started playing on the stage. A group of people crowded around dancing. Me and Jen walked up to dance. We danced with eachother and other people for a long time. I was finally getting my mind of of Jake. After a song ended the band got off and a DJ walked up to the mic. "Yo beach goerrss!" He yelled, and the crowd cheered. "We're gonna do some volunteer singers or dancers while the next band gets ready.
Some kids went up and did break- dancing. Of course, Natalie and her friends went up in their bikinis to dance like whores, and all the guys cheered. After acouple minutes the music stopped. Jake walked onto the stage...

Chapter 11.
I get a text from my mom :' Lilly, i need your help. Bad. ' I get concerned and show Caleb, He suggests that we should go back to my house to see what is wrong. He walks me back, and when we get there, we hear my mother crying. She couldn't get up off of the couch, she looked very tierd. But usually when she's tierd she can get up. I didn't know what was going on. Caleb and me help my mom upstairs to her bed, and go to my room. After about an hour, we hear a screech come from my moms room. She was lying on the ground next to her bed. "I was trying to get water, and i f-fell," Exclaimed my mother. "Was it loss in balance?" Caleb asks. My mother replies "I-i think so." We both helped her back into bed and get her some water. We go back to my room, and Caleb starts to get awfully worried. "L-lilly? I think your mom has cancer." Caleb whispers in my ear. More tears start rolling down my cheeks. The depression tears. I hugged him close. I get on my phone and call Caleb's dad, to take my mother to the hospital. We come with, and sit in the waiting room while we wait for some answers. Caleb's father comes to sit with us. I'm now sobbing, because my mother is the only family i have left. Now she could possibly have.. cancer. The nurse came out and we all three automatically walk over to her. She says "You'r Lilly?" She asks. "Y-yeah." I reply. "Well, I'm terribly sorry, - I was still sobbing - but you're mother has cancer, and we're going to have to keep her over night to take some tests." I hug Caleb and my tears are nearly soaking his shirt. my mother has Cancer.

What was he going up there for? I don't wanna stand here and listen to him talk. I grabbed Jen's arm and pulled her to the back of the crowd. "I gotta leave.."
I heard Jake's voice through the amps. "Emily..Don't leave just yet." He asked. Jen made me stop, and we turned around. "Everyone, that's my girl right there." He pointed to the back of the crowd at me. Everyone turned around and stared. "Not anymore.." I mumbled under my breath and turned to walk away again.
"I promised her I'd sing for her birthday.." Everyone awww'ed and smiled, still watching me. "Remember when we met and you hated me? I wrote this about 3 days after that. I know your mad at me, but I love you..and I'm sorryy." He smiled and breathed out into the mic. Again, everyone awwwed. I felt myself turn red. Jake turned around and grabbed a guitar some guy was holding and sat on a stool in front of the mic. He took a deep breath and started playing.
